THIS IS THE NOTICE I RECEIVED FROM THESE PEOPLE. PLEASE NOTICE THE SCUMBAG HOCKEY PLAYERS??? tHE ONLY DIFFERENCE IN MY SHIPPING ADDRESS WAS ONE HAD #*** AND THE OTHER APT***. NEVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Pay attention here.... PAYMENT OPTIONS. In order for us to accept your credit card for payment it has to be a real credit card, not a gift or temporary one, and we have to ship to the same address where your credit card bill goes. We ship to the billing address only. If you want the package delivered to other than the billing address, like your work, simply contact your credit card company and have them add that address to your account. Because of credit card fraud, it is too risky for us to send items to non-billing addresses. Weve been burnt too many times by scumbag hockey players with this scam, also by those whose mail room at work lost the package and they decide they are going to stiff us even though it was no fault of ours. Of course if you send us cash, a money order, or bank check in advance we will gladly ship anywhere. For payment options, we take Visa, Mastercard and Discover. No personal checks please, unless you dont mind waiting 2 weeks for them to clear. International customers, please email us for payment options and shipping options.

My name is Bob, owner of No-Icing Sports. This is in reply to Kieth Gretzky below. Our price for a regular FBV sharpening is $7, which is a re-sharpening of previously sharpened steel. However, when a customer brings in new skates that have never been sharpened, we do charge $20 for the initial sharpening which requires much more work/labor to do the very first time skates are sharpened. Its not a punishment, its a lot of work, 4 times that of a regular $7 sharpening and up to 30 mins to do correctly with extra wear and tear on our equipment. If skates are purchased here, we do this at no charge as part of the service you get from your local store. But please do not expect us to do this extra work for free because the store you bought them from didnt do it for you. In addition, all our prices in our store are same as online prices, except for closeouts discontinued items they may offer. If you can get a better deal online, certainly go for it.

I love this store! Their custom combo radius significantly changed both my game and the game of my teammates for the better. Their personalized evaluation of my needs provides so much value. Ive been a loyal sharpen-by-mail customer for 6 years and have always received prompt, exceptional customer service, whether it had to do with a transaction or if it was a skate issue that I needed advice on. Additionally, I live almost 5 hours south of the store, and one summer when I was driving north I wanted to take a significant detour on my trip so that I could stop in and buy a Hackva mask, which is difficult to get near me. Bob and Anita were so helpful in making sure the size and color I needed was in stock before I made the trip, and they even specifically opened their store a little early for me on the day of my trip to accommodate my travel schedule. Wow!

So I put in an internet order for 2 pairs of runners to try two combo-radius custom profiles, each with the much vaunted "flat bottom V" (vs standard hollow). Lo and behold, when I got the runners, the profiles on both were identical to the stock runner and they had regular 1/2" radiuses. I can get that done locally for much less than $30 per pair. First I got a paltry excuse ("they were just labelled wrong") and then a request to send them back to get re-sharpened/profiled. Well, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I already wasted enough time. If youre local, youre probably fine, but it looks like QA goes out the window if you fall for the the FBV/Internet order. Make a friend with someone at your local shop. Its not rocket science after all.

I have been going here for over two years simply becasue they offer the fbv and the owner does a good job with that but my problem is I recently bought a pair of new skates (not in his store) and wanted to get them sharpeded but he looked at them and made a face and then told me that I would have to pay an extra six dollars so he could do something with the steel since they are new skates. So on top of the fbv which is now seven dollars I had to pay an extra six. I didnt like this and I asked around and no one has ever been charged for this . So beware people if you bring in new skates and you didnt buy them at his store..lol he takes offense to that. Maybe if he didnt sell his skates (bauer supreme) for 400 as compared to icewarehouse for 200 less..:)

Their work(manship) can be very good - outstanding and leading edge if you know what you need. But you need to know precisely what you need. On the other hand, if you do not know and are working to achieve an "end", it can be a long and protracted "work in progress" and most frustrating not to mention costly. Major caveat: they are not the easist to work with. The word gruff comes to mind. They do NOT answer direct (simple) questions to ones concerns which are essential in figuring out that "end". Their business will garner higher rating if and ONLY if they change their surly ATTITUDE. They need to remind themselves that customers go where they are welcomed first and foremost.

I have dealt with NIS for a long time, and have always been treated well. I just bot my 3rd pair of skates from them. I told them about how I skate and issues with my feet etc. Based on that info ,they recommended a certain brand and model, and, after trying on half a dozen others, I went with their choice. What they recommended was more $ than I was hoping to spend though not the most expensive in the shop. ..well worth it. They have matched internet pricing for me +/- a few $. I am more like a client than a customer. Its a big difference. Plus, I get my best sharpening here by a large margin and Bob has always fixed any issues for no charge. You get what you pay for.

Found this shop online and read everything on their website. Read all the reviews and decided to order a set of blades. I emailed and asked for a skater questionnaire. This was sent to me within just a few minutes. I filled it out and sent it in. Bob emailed me back one working day later with his recommendations. I ordered what he recommended. They arrived two days later (super fast!). I could tell a difference immediately! Much more stable and the glide was crazy smooth! I will be using them for my sons skates and I would HIGHLY recommend them.

Bob was extremely helpful with explaining what was wrong with my skates and recommending an appropriate hollow radius for blade sharpening. He was knowledgeable, friendly and honest; even replacing one of my blades for free after it broke while he was replacing it. If you have a question about hockey or especially about skates and sharpening, I highly recommend a trip to Bob. I drove 60 miles to see him but it was worth every minute. P.S. Try the Flat Bottom V sharpening!
