The Young People In Electronics Were Absolutely Clueless. I called before leaving work. I talked with Anthony and asked if they had an Olympus ME-52 microphone in stock. He said, “Yes, we have two.” So I drive there, through commuter traffic. I find Anthony. We go to get the microphone. There is no microphone! I asked him, “What happened? I called and specifically asked you if this microphone was in stock. You said you had two of these!” Anthony had nothing illuminating to say. I should have just left because Anthony was a clueless, 20 something kid. He tried to find this microphone at another Best Buy store by doing what all clueless, 20 something kids do, staring at his telephone. I was too hopeful. Another 20 something boy and a young woman looked at their telephones and computers and said this Olympus microphone was at the Best Buy in Eagan. The next evening, I discovered they were also ** WRONG ** about this, and I wasted another evening! They said the Best Buy in Eagan had two of these microphones. They had zero Olympus ME-52 microphones! Anthony’s problem was not plain old laziness. Saying he was lazy implies that he could have walked 30 feet and looked at the shelf and realized, “Oh, that microphone is not in stock after all!” Anthony’s problem was he is out of touch with reality. He spends so much time glued to his telephone screen, he no longer understands that what he sees on the screen is only a vague approximation of reality. The next week, I called Best Buy customer service and chatted with a lady named Jennifer. I told her I called the Best Buy in Inver Grove Heights. A woman said the microphone was in stock, but it was not. Then the same fiasco happened the next night with the Eagan Best Buy. I asked her, “Is it often the case that the count for an item that the computer shows is off by one or two?” She admitted, “It’s very common.” The problem is Best Buy hires these dimwit kids. It’s not just that they don’t know how to do a day’s worth of physical work, they also have nothing in the way of critical thinking skills. For Anthony, the idea of walking 30 feet to look at the microphones on the shelf, instead of staring at his telephone all day long was literally off his radar screen, or off his telephone screen. I have tutored and edited papers for Chinese and South Korean students working on their master’s and PhD programs. Intellectually, these East Asian students are so far beyond the young people I saw working at Best Buy. It’s no wonder the Chinese and South Koreans are out performing America in manufacturing and with earning their university degrees. I have switched to shopping online for electronic items. It’s a lot less trouble than dealing with these 20 something Best Buy employees.

I have come here one time. It will be my last. The customer service agent I worked with was very polite and seemed to understand my frustration with the experience but was literally unable to help me. For full info on my best buy experience see my Richfield review. I was told I could pick up a replacement laptop at Inver Grove Heights by the Richfield Geek Squad because my computer qualified for a replacement. At Inver Grove they thought my laptop I purchased many years ago was the one being replaced which caused some confusion when they started talking about price difference. Then I pulled out my receipt. They were confused that Geek Squad had told me to come get a replacement since they hadnt done a transfer. The customer service agent wasnt able to take care of the replacement and got a manager who talked with me for a minute and looked at the situation and said, "Oh that should be no problem." Then he told the customer service agent what to do and left. What he had told her didnt work so she spent a while trying to figure it out. I spent an hour and a half in the shop and she came to check in with me a couple times. They eventually told me I would have to pay an extra 100 dollars to get my replacement laptop because I had purchased an open box laptop. I informed them that the sales person had told me the protection plan included replacement when I purchased it. That did not seem to matter. I told them Geek Squad had told me I could come and pick up a replacement. That did not matter. They said I could pay 100 dollars to get a replacement and then transfer my protection plan to the new computer. I was very upset after having been told on three separate occasions that I could get a replacement (which was the only reason I bought the open box laptop since I dont trust Best Buy to refurbish anything). This ended with them saying there is nothing we can do for you and I left. I ended up calling richfield and having the old laptop sent out for repair. After four weeks it was unable to be repaired and then they told me I qualified once again for replacement. I called Geek Squad in Richfield again and they got it set up and I went in the next day and they took care of getting me my replacement computer now that they had them in stock again. It took 20 minutes and I was done. There is no reason the Inver Grove Heights location could not have done this the first time. I would not return to this location.

Wanted to check out the cell phone protection plan with geek squad since I go through about 3 phones per year. Visit started out okay. Got helped right away but the sales associate i started with didnt care to try and earn my business from AT&T store. Finally a gal came over and was very helpful in even doing comparison price shopping for me to assure Id get the very best price possible. My husband seen a sign in the store saying any smart phone trade in is worth $50 best buy gift card. ... After leaving the store and returning a few moments later we had decided to make our purchase of our new phone and adding a line to our plan...After being told the price AFTER the $50.00 we started paperwork. THe associates had no idea about the promotion going on or how to enter it into the system. The associate returned after the third time and said the manager wont honor the gift card promotion because the phone needed to be the same brand of phone you were planning on purchasing.... That wasnt discussed prior nor was it stated in the fine print on the sign. I asked to see the manager... he refused to come talk to us. Being nice to the helpful (second) associate. We left the store. My husband rarely gets angry but he was NOT happy. The security guard at the front door could tell it didnt go well. He asked me to wait so he could call the store supervisor who was on duty, who happened to be the same guy that wouldnt come talk to us when we had asked was simply.... R.U.D.E... he wouldnt listen as i calmly explained what we were trying to accomplish. he was talking over me, started making VERY firm hand gestures and raising his voice. he mad NO attempt to try and ask me to solve the issue, nor did he ask what he could do to make it up to us.... we spent 3 hours of our Saturday at this store.... I was not causing a scene, just simply trying to explain .... he didnt care that he not only lost a big sale, references, customers, nor does he know... my company spends alot of money with that store every month. .... Bad move... bad business, BEST BUY.... Bad BUSINESS.
