Great place to shop if youre a no thrills type of person. Great prices, same friendly cashiers and stockers, mom and pop shop. My only complaint is that they sometimes run out of certain items, specifically bulk dog treats, but its understandable with their great prices. Sometimes they assist prices at the cash register, for example I bought 15 pressed raw hide sticks for 5 cents a piece but because they were small she charged me for only 10, theyve discounted small pig and cow ears as well. The best part is, I didnt even ask they just did it!! You wont find that kind of customer service at petsmart or any other big box store. They have a HUGE selection of dog food, all the stuff from your name brand horrible for your dog food to vacuum sealed meat based kibble. They have more than just k-9 (dog) items, cat food, small rodent (rabbits, mice, guinea pigs...) (The selection is small for smaller pets), pretty large bid selection in the front of the store that you may miss if you dont look for it. I think they even carry pig feed.. Their grocery carts are pretty old and beat up. The isles are small, its a tight fit passing people with a cart, especially when theyre not considerate and take up the whole isle. They do allow dogs and also have free dog treats at the checkout, the stock guy will also give your dog a treat sometimes as well. Theres a decent sized grass lot in the back, its not fenced in though. The place is not as clean or nice as Wal-Mart but again the prices are worth it. Highly recommend this K-9 Specialties!

I have shopped at K9 for years. During the years I have seen that they advertise a sale price, although when you get to the register the price for the item is not any lower. They say that the price tag on the product is already reduced. Today I proved that they are illegally advertising sale prices. I have been purchasing the same brand dog food for years, it has always been $49.99. When I went in today to purchase the same bag, I noticed it was priced $48.99 and also had a sticker that stated "Sale $5.00 off". I went to the register and the price rang up $48.99 + tax, only $1.00 off not the $5.00 sale it was tagged. I spoke to the owner and asked if the price had increased, he stated that it had not. he said that they sell the product for $53.99. I called him out since I had purchased the product month over month for years. I left frustrated, went home and took a picture of the new bag priced $48.99 (with the $5.00 off) next to the old bag priced $49.99 (regular price). went back up and showed him the picture, along with statement showing I have paid $49.99 every month for the last year. When I mentioned that he was illegally advertising a sale price, he said he doesnt advertise...owner is clueless! Will never have my business again.

We have construction as we all know, i drove for an hour in it ,on mound got to K-9 at 6 on the dot and theyre already registers closed?? , with this horrible winter behind us, and Mound down to Rebar, maybe they could stay open a half hour later to accommodate their customers instead of ignoring the traffic.??? Maybe they need some competition, then theyd stay open past 6pm when most people are not even home form work yet... Also to the heavy Blonde lady who doesnt work there but felt the need from her trunk to tell my child , oh no dont go ask anything theyre closed, .. Mind your own business, you old busy body witch! my dog has no food because of you, and my son got a talking too, for not listening to his mother, again because you decided to open that fat mouth when no one asked you! ~Also this is not reed this is his mother, ty!! P.s, i read a review that said these owners own rescues and shelters that is just not true! Ive lived and shopped in this area since it opened, and That is false. I wouldnt mind the dirt ,(they dont care, these reviews date back 5 yrs and all say its filthy, dirty, smelly or ghetto.) if they actually had good hours right now. 4-2014

I started shopping at K-9 four dogs ago, probably over 30 years. Unbeatable prices on a great selection of supplies, food, toys, and treats for dogs, cats, pet birds, and wild birds. Great supply of show and grooming supplies; more variety of dog foods than most big box pet stores. Only a few small animal supplies, and nothing for fish or reptiles. Dont expect anything fancy: they have a no-frills, warehouse style; but the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. And if theyre out of what you need, theyll be happy to tell you when itll come in, or order it specially for you and call you when it arrives. **Cant find anyone to help? Ring the service bell on the glass counter! Phone service can be sketchy; it can take several tries to get through, as theres only one line. Dont mistake their briefness on phone for rudeness; they need to answer quickly to clear the line for the next call. If they say that somethings in stock but dont check, believe them. They really do know. Open Mon thru Sat only, till 6pm (7 on Fri). ***In many cases, their pet food prices are better than online discount retailers.

Can I give no stars? The flood just happened...you know...the one where everyones basements flooded in the metro Detroit area? The 100 year storm? Well I walked into the store and immediately smelled sewage and asked if any of the dog food had been contaminated and was told that everything on the bottom shelves had been removed. I asked again when I went through the register and I was assured that the food was ok and safe for my dogs. When I got home I opened one of the bags to feed my pooch and was bowled over by the disgusting smell of rotten food that had been contaminated by sewage. Now I have to go out to get fresh food for my dogs tonight AND I have to return this tomorrow. Not to mention...people are going to have some very sick dogs if they feed their dog something from this store (like pigs ears) or give them dog toys. I am disgusted by this lack of ethics. I am hoping that it was an accident but I dont know how you could make a mistake like this. :(

I have shopped here for years. Yes the store is run down and not looking gorgeous like Petsmart, but Petsmart is fake! Ive worked at 3 as a certified pet stylist and know all about what goes on behind the scenes! Petsmart does not care about any of the animals there, they have been seen discarding live baby animals that were born there, just so they dont have to raise them and find them adoptable homes! I agree that this place is run down and not always the best service, but my dogs would not have any arguments since they always have plenty of free cookies from the employees and I love getting my grooming supplies as well as mammoth bones for way cheaper than any other place I have found (even Petedge, which has screwed me over and tried to charge me twice for products!). K-9 is number one in my books and I tell all my customers thats my first choice for pet supplies!
