I was disappointed in my experience. My daughter and I dropped off a quilt to be sent out for long arm quilting based on a recommendation from a friend. My introduction to the choices of stitches available was done by pushing the booklet across the cutting mat in my direction. When I mentioned that I may need some suggestions as there were pages of stitching, I was told that I just needed to decide what would look best. I purchased the batting from the store and paid cash as there is a sign that states they do not accept credit cards for purchases under $20. When I returned to pick up my quilt today I took out my credit card and was rudely told that I can pay by "either cash or credit card". When I said that it was a credit card the owner corrected herself and said it was either cash or check. She then told me this was a service and no credit cards could be used. It would have been really nice to know that before I drove 15 miles to get there. I was $2 short and had to return to my car and get the spare change I had. When I mentioned that they might consider adding that to the sign about credit cards, I was met with a blank stare. As I was leaving the other woman working there said "yeah...they should have told you that when you were here". Really? The only two women in the store two weeks ago were the same two that were there today! I own a business, I understand the minimum on the credit card, I can also understand that you dont want your service business intertwined with your own business. But seriously, how difficult would it have been to explain this the first time I was in particularly when I mentioned I had never been there? Its all in the delivery... Would it have been that much of a reach to say: Im sorry that this was not explained to you, maybe I can direct you to a bank nearby?

I have been a shopper at the Lake St. Mercantile for the past 4 years, however I will no longer be a patron of this store due to its poor service. I am a young, new quilter and often require advice on fabrics and patterns. On more than one occasion it was made clear to me by staff that they did not have time for amateur questions. Recently I visited the store to pick out some fabric for a friends quilt. I was looking for a particular fabric that I had seen in their back room. When I noticed the door to the back room was closed I told the staff I was looking for this specific fabric. The woman told me they did not open the back room on weekends. I explained it was the only fabric I needed for a quilt. She responded by saying it would likely be hard to find and I could come back in 7 weeks when the store has their big sale. Well 7 weeks does not really fit into my quilting schedule since this project is for a gift needed in 4 weeks. The woman made no effort to offer an alternative or look for the fabric herself. Despite being the only customer in the store the staff appeared too busy to help me. When I turned to leave the store I noticed a quilting kit that I had made multiple requests for. On 2 seperate occasions in the past year I requested a quilting kit which had been sold out. Both times I left my name, number and e-mail to be contacted when the kits were available. I recieved no call and no e-mail. This was the final straw. Their staff is not helpful, considerate, kind or reliable. If you are looking for a friendly quilt store this is not the place.

Been an occasional customer there for quite a while. Ive always received enthusiastic and helpful service. Never encountered any issues and the staff has been friendly and knowledgeable. A gem of a shop. Worth a visit, especially if you are into reproduction/Americana fabrics. No batiks/modern, which is what I usually use. I always seem to manage to find a few pieces to take home, however. Back door entrance makes parking access very easy, too.

Worst Customer Service. I would never shop here again even if I needed reprinted old fabrics. The woman who owns it was horribly rude to me. Im sorry, but just because you won a "Better Homes and Gardens" award doesnt mean youre the queen of the quilting world and that you can be rude to new quilters. Honestly, horrible shop.

Just love this store! Just started quilting in Spring 2010 and everyone on the staff is so helpful and friendly. Many beautiful quilts hang on the wall and many fabrics to choose from. Lots of kits available. Thanks to the staff for all their help!

I didnt know they were here until my best friend took me on the tour, there are two levels and both have a wide selection. The staff was friendly and casual, I like that sort of thing.

I stopped to get the Row by Row and was very pleased by the friendly service. A very pleasant store to shop in with a large collection of quilt fabric, patterns and kits.

Owner is wonderful! She is always kind and very helpful! Whoever said this is an unfriendly place needs mental help.
