I used to go here all the time when the previous owner had it, unfortunately it was about eight years since I was last there. They use to have the best highest quality ice cream, the sizes were so generous and the price was very reasonable. Now its completely different. We first noticed that they use a much cheaper brand of ice cream and its loaded with chemicals (dont let the "homemade" fool you, it has tons of chemicals). That wasnt even the worst part though.... The rude attitude from the young cashiers working at the register - as if we were bothering them as they sat there doing nothing - was the first thing that was off-putting. When we asked to speak to the owner, Brian, he came out in the most unfriendly and gruff way (quite surprising for the owner of a business to conduct himself like this). Needless to say, we turned around and bolted out of there without getting any ice cream. We then went straight to Blue Moon Ice Cream in Port Austin (near the light) and it is altogether 100% better. Not only do they use high quality ice cream with NO chemicals, but the owner is wonderful. This guy really knows how to conduct a business, and the cashiers are friendly and helpful as well (kind-of what you would expect from an ice cream place to begin with anyway). Dont waste your time going to Grindstone, unfortunately its not at all what it used to be.

Ice Cream: okay, Sizing: great, Crappy Attitude: Priceless. My mother, 4 year old niece, and I arrived an hour after they opened in hopes of getting the Ice cream my mother used to get with her grandpa 20 years ago. We decided to make a last minute stop to go here before heading back home because she remembered how great the sizes and the ice cream were. Yet, we were met with scowls and the feeling of not being welcomed. At first I thought that it was because we just walked in and they were tired, but after my niece asked for a baby superman cone and not one person wanted to smile or try to be polite while she was getting excited for her ice cream, I no longer cared. If that wasnt enough, the store was being restocked while my family sat outside and only my mother helped the man coming in with piles of ice cream into the store and then I went up to open the door for another man hauling boxes of cones. Not once did the owner or employees inside try to make it easier for said workers. All in All, I would say try this place once, but sadly we do not plan on coming back.

Stopped to get ice cream with my 4 kids and husband. We are from metro Detroit area and visiting. Cashier, older gentleman was very friendly and helpful. The three ice cream scoopers acted as if we were bothering them. Not willing to help us correct our dilemma missing a cone, but decided to roll their eyes and cross their arms. We werent asking for free ice cream, it was just an honest mistake missed by the cashier. No biggie. But we didnt know why we were missing a cone. Ive never met such miserable people, who obviously hate people, customer service, life or their job. Either way, maybe customer service isnt for you, just a thought! The ice cream was great, portions amazing. Just wish I saw smiling faces instead of such negativity only visiting 5 minutes.

Today I was there for the first time with my girlfriend. I ordered a cone for her and malt for me. The cone was served first and I took the cone outside to her while my malt was being made. When I reentered the store (there were no other customers) one of the "scoopers" was mixing my malt and the 2nd guy obviously didnt hear me enter and he was reaching into one of the ice cream bins and scooped out 3 fingers worth of ice cream with his bare hand and popped it into his mouth...he saw me and quickly turned his back and walked away. I was absolutely disgusted...first and last time there.

The photo displayed is a Kiddie size cone. Baby size=1- 14oz softball size scoop, kiddie size=2-14oz softball size scoops, single =3 14oz softball size scoops, double=,triple=, etc. You get the picture. Big ice cream they are trying to make a statement here. They want their customers to return and tell their friends too. Love thu da little gem.

The baby scoop was more than enough ice cream for me, but it was outstanding! I had the homemade banana oreo cookies flavor which was delicious and I also tried the homemade Reeses chocolate peanut butter ice-cream which as expected was delicious. This place is in the middle of nowhere but a must stop if you are in the area!

Been coming here since I was 8. I still remember when they sold groceries and beer! The wife and I come up here every summer. Planning on taking the kids with us in a few weeks. Very nice souvenirs and not to mention, the huge scoops of ice cream that you get! You wont be disappointed.

Best Ice cream and best deals. Huge servings and some of the Ice cream is homemade. They also have non dairy for people who are allergic. Best place ever. Lot of souvenir stuff also for tourists. Guaranteed once you go there, you will be back for more.

An 8-yo visitor from Georgia remarked to us about getting ice cream in Grindstone, "It was the best day of my life". So they sell knick-knacks, ice cream, and happiness. Ice cream at Grindstone General Store has been a tradition for decades.

I didnt eat here the day I went and purchased 2 cones with my family but they loved the Superman Ice cream. Portion size go out the window here as a small is enough to feed two. Get a triple and you better have friends with you!

They offer homemade ice cream as well as Strohs ice cream at a very fair price. The cone sizes are famously huge. Theyre single equates to a triple at your average ice cream shop. Its a great experience.

The homemade ice cream was amazing... Unfortunately, the customer service was not. The cashier acted like we were an inconvenience to him and was kind of a jerk. Definitely going to try Rybaks next time.

I used to go to this place 35 years ago every summer when we went to my grandmas cottage. Loved it! Best ice cream. Back then the bubble gum ice cream actually had bubble gum balls in it....

One of our FAVORITE places to get ice cream in the summer. Huge portions for your money. Each scoop is around 14 oz. You can get all the way up to 5 scoops for about $7. We love this place!

Delicious homemade ice cream sold in massive quantities for low prices. The "Kiddie" size waffle cone was the most ice cream Ive eaten in one sitting. Also the best ice cream Ive ever had.

I havent been there yet this summer, but last summer they sold Sanders ice cream. High quality stuff, lots of flavors, and absurdly big servings...even the baby size. Highly recommended.

What an amazing hidden gem for ice cream! Ginormous scoops, great prices. Theres no reason anyone needs anything more than the "kiddie" ice cream cone here!
