Looking for a good cupcake is a difficult thing here in Worcester. Driving by Sweets I thought maybe I will stop bye and order one. Walking in one would notice it is clean. When you begin to look over the cupcake selection you notice a very limited selection to choose from. You can have a "small" chocolate cupcake with vanilla or chocolate frosting or you can have a "small" vanilla cupcake with vanilla or chocolate frosting. I had to look them over twice to really sink in. yes they had maybe two other flavor of cupcake but you would think when 50% of what they sell is two flavors. Kind of sad! Oh wait it gets worse. Since I have been to a few other bakeries that sell cupcakes and on average cupcakes range from $2 to $2.50 and having $5 and some change in my pocket I thought I could get two. I asked for chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting (like I had a choice in any other flavors, so sad). Grabbing a box the employee said $6 a little shocked at a $3 cupcake at that small size. I then pulled out my credit card. When seeing my card the employees eyes glowed with Dollar signs (didnt really happen but felt like it after I left). I was then informed that they do not except cards under ten dollars. Then pointed to the 3rd party ATM machine in the lobby and saying oh you can get cash here. How convenient of them to have their very own ATM machine in the building. Wait a 3 dollar charge to take out 20 bucks. So lets add this up, two small cupcakes at $3 each plus a $3 service charge from the ATM equals 9$ for two "small" cupcakes. Hmmm who I wonder gets that kick back? Having had one of these cupcakes months past and knowing they are average on the best day, nothing any one would ever crave, kept me from trying to pay almost five dollars apiece for a tiny cupcake of average flavor. This is a small business that is all about profits. For a five dollar cupcake he or she should expect exceptional quality and flavor. You will not get that here. Take your $5 and go to your local grocery store and buy a 6 pack of cupcakes with the same flavor. Normally I would give this a 1 star rating because the cupcakes are average not bad but by no means great. But knowing they try their best to gouge customers at every turn with fees. It feels like you are trying to deal with a bank or credit card company, it only deserves 1 star.

I liked the premise of this place, apps to share with yummy desserts, but the execution was not there. We got there at 6:30 on a Friday and ordered a cheese place first, then a few dishes to share. Everything came out in 10 minutes, so we didn’t get to enjoy our cheese plate with our wine as an app, after specifically asking to have the cheese plate first. The cheese selection left a lot to be desired. The kale salad was incredibly bland. The poutine was skimpy with the gravy and cheese. Nothing wowed me and I felt like I had to rush to eat everything before it got cold. I thought the whole point was to have things come out slowly to enjoy yourself and your company. I was excited for the desserts, and was really let down. I didn’t like the first one that I ordered. The cake in the Nutella dessert was so dry it was hard to swallow. I said it wasn’t for me, and that I would like to order a different dessert. I ordered the bananas foster instead. This was ok. Bananas wrapped in a little bit of filo with caramel on the side. The caramel was cooked for too long, it got hard while we sat there. I would have liked a brown sugar / butter sauce because… you know… it was supposed to be bananas foster. Then we were informed that they would not take the first dessert off the bill because “there was nothing wrong with it.” I guess that is the owners’ prerogative to treat patrons like that, but by not taking it off my bill I won’t go back, and I will tell my friends about my experience there. Doesn’t seem like a smart business decision to me, but what do I know, I’m just the customer.

Originally, I used their contact page on their website back in October and did not receive a response to my inquiry about my cake. So in April I called to schedule a wedding cake consultation with Alina, the cake decorator, and left a message for a return call. One of the girls in the front of the store called me back the next business day and was very polite and friendly and told me that if I knew what I wanted it might be best to send Alina an e-mail because it is a very busy time for them with it being wedding season. So I e-mailed Alina at the end of April and included pictures and everything I was asked to include and sent off the e-mail. It is now June 1st and I have not heard anything from them. I do understand that it is wedding season, but I would have appreciated some sort of contact so I knew I wasnt being ignored. She should not have her staff telling people to e-mail her when she cant manage to send a response. I have since decided to take my business elsewhere because I am not the first person to complain about her lack of communication. Which is a shame because their cakes and desserts are fantastic, but customer service is definitely not a priority for Sweet Worcester.

Dont get me wrong, Sweet has some great dishes, from dessert to brunch. However, my biggest complaint is them not updating their website. I have been to Sweet twice in the past two months, both with one thing in mind: their milk and cookies. Their warm chocolate chip cookies with local coffee milk is the absolute best, however, both times I went they have not offered it *despite* their online menu stating that they did. One time we went around Christmas time and were informed they had changed it to eggnog and sugar cookies (despite not changing it on their website..it was still the original milk and cookies) and the other time, just a few weeks ago, we were told it was not being offered because they wanted to "try new things" and "have people try new things." Now, I understand that reasoning, but 1. if you have things on your menu that people really love, that are your "classics", then why not keep them? 2. looking on their online menu is a huge resource for people and a reason why they either choose to go somewhere or not. I was very disappointed that not once but twice their online menu was not updated and I went in expecting one thing to be told they didnt have it.

Went here with a friend after getting lunch next door. Place is small, and was mostly empty when we went in. One of the ladies there set us up a table and let us look over the menu. Dude comes up and talks to us and then presents us with the desert menu (which is what we really wanted). We ended up getting two dishes. I got the German Apple Cake with ice cream, which was presented very well and was tasty. The ice cream tasted like real, thick, well churned stuff and the cake had the apple taste without being apple pie. She got this smores thing. It came with three huge marshmallows, six very large slow cookies (4 chocolate and 2 peanut butter), this pre melted chocolate in one of those things you use to write letters with icing, and a little ceramic bowl with a grill over the top. It was filled with fire, which got her extremely excited. The marshmallows were very lightly smoked, so you get to cook them yourself. The cookies were warm, and the chocolate was tasty. She loved it. Now plans to have her 21st birthday here.
