Id like to consider myself one of the best "evaluators" of thrift stores, since I frequent them almost daily. Im a part time RN and antique dealer, so I think I know my stuff! My usual place to shop was the Montgomery General Hospitals thrift store, but there are too many folks working there who do not allow the good stuff to go on the shelves. Im sure the same thing happens here at Unique, but to a much lesser extent. There are still some fabulous buys if you stay there long enough to look in every nook and cranny, and depending on the day you go (Mondays are so crowded due to the 1/2 price sale, that you might not be able to find anything! Thursdays can be that way as well for 25% off. But again, when items are being placed on shelves by the workers, they get picked up immediately by whomever happens to see them nearby! Make sure you have at least 3-4 hrs of time to really sift through all the isles and shelves. Dont forget to look at the top hooks where the baggies are! Ive gotten a package of sterling silver open salts with spoons for $1.61. And the clothing can be just as good a deal. Last week I found 6 pieces of Chicos clothing in my size with tags for $4.99-$9.99 each. A pair of unworn Rockport clogs for $4.24 and tons of sealed needlework craft kits that sell on ebay for over $30 only $2.99 or less at this store. I love shopping here, and have no need to shop in retail stores. At my income level, I cant afford to dress in the high priced clothing, but I can still buy it at this store and look like I have a very high end closet! I have bought other pieces for resale and for my grown kids homes, and have been able to furnish my disabled sons home in style on a shoestring budget! The store also offers community help by way of its closet program, and that is highly appreciated by the people who earn the gift certificates through county programs. What a great store with a great mission! Recycling Rocks!!

My Mom and I visited Unique a second time just to give it another chance. We wanted to be a bit more open minded this time than we were the last. So we did. There is hardly any parking for this place at all. So I suggested lets go park by the Korean Market a few yards away. BAD IDEA!!! An asian couple cut us off to get a spot for the market. They were a bit older so I felt sorry for them, but in the same lime light I didnt because they pissed me off. Anyway, we pull into the spot, discover we were crooked and back out to straighten ourselves. So, this other Asian women squeezed her way through as if we were letting her pass us, she almost wrecked our new car. Then, just as we pulled back in, the elderly Asian women in the car next to us swung her car door wide open as we were about to pull in. We almost took the door off of her car. Anyway, back to the thrift store. Prices were not all that great. I decided to look through mens shirts rack and discovered that for a no name brand shirt was 3.49. WTF??? I go to Salvation Army in Gaithersburg and get Name Brand Shirts like Polo by Ralph Lauren, Armani, and Aeropostale for .99 cents plus 50% off on Wednesdays or based on the color of the week. The shelves were not stocked and prices were a little steep. I walked out with nothing. My mom walked out with a few crafting pieces. WE WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!!!!

This used to be the best thrift store around. It occupies half the space of the old Ames Store, is well organized and full of merchandise. Unfortunately, theyve recently begun pricing themselves out of the market. It is not surprising to find items costing more than retail. They offer 25% off on Mondays and Thursdays. Youll need to sign up for their Unique "VIP" card, which is free. Sign up anytime except Thursday. Even with the discount, many items are still above retail. However, its still worth stopping by. You can find the occasional bargain, when the people in back dont know what an item is, it may hit the floor with a really good price. If its vintage glass or china, forget it. Youll do better buying on eBay or a local antique store. Recently, vintage salt and pepper shakers made in Japan were priced at $50 to $100.00 when they should have been no more than $5 to $10. Which reminds me, skip the showcased items in the front. The prices on those items may cause you to audibly gasp.

Ive come here looking mostly for casual clothes, kids clothes, accessories, toys, household items and books. Its the cheapest prices Ive ever found on used stuff and the place is HUGE! Since its so cheap, there arent too many high-end name brands, but then its not consignment, its just a thrift store. There are always tons and tons of things to browse through. I will say that most of the toys are too crappy for what Id purchase for my kids, but if they come with me, I do get them a little something to occupy their time while I shop through the clothes. Items are so inexpensive I dont mind getting a few fancy scarves and hats for dress-ups for my children. My husband found a brand new jean jacket, and there were scrubs as well. Its well worth the trip if youre a bargain hunter!

Today on August 18, 2016, I brought a used Super Mario 64 cartridge ($56.50) and a brand new Retro Link Nintendo 64 USB controller ($27.50) all for the price of $84.00. Although I think SM64 was overpriced, it was still a decent offer, I guess. On August 22, 2016, I also brought Super Mario Bros. ($25.50) and Super Mario World ($56.50) and got a $2.00 discount for an overall total of $82.00. And I also liked their selection of old school video games, as I saw PLENTY of: NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Game Boy, DS, PS1, PS2, Xbox, etc. games. As well as their old school consoles/handhelds: Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, DS, PS1, SNES, etc.

Best thift store around! The prices are great, and they carry almost everything you can imagine! I always find very contemporary clothing for great prices. Handbags are overflowing. You can walk out of there with 10 tops for only 50 bucks! Of course, their prices are tremendously generous. Im a teen, and if you are one too, you know how hard it is to find chic vintage clothing at thrift stores. The prices are the main reason why I keep coming back! If you decide not to buy anything, then its just a really fun hangout spot. I love finding weird things to laugh and joke about.

I really dont understand the raving reviews of this place. It does occupy a large space but the parking lot is seedy and there are tons of people just lurking around. Then you get inside and find a majorly disorganized selection of items that have DEFINITELY seen better days. The prices are expensive for stuff with holes and stains! Some stuff I knew for sure was priced over retail. You can get better deals at a consignment shop. Overall, one of the sketchiest, overpriced and disorganized thrift stores Ive ever seen. This is what gives thrift stores a bad name.
