Seems like small convenience stores are going the way of the dinosaur - they cant compete with big supermarkets. So I am grateful to have The Corner General Store in my neighborhood! Yeah, its more expensive than shopping at Hannaford, but I dont have a Hannaford two blocks away, plus I prefer a small shop without long lines. For wine (great selection) and beer, chips and baked beans, batteries and toilet paper, cigarettes - the basics - its really nice to have a local bodega, especially one that is open every night till 1am. You pay a little more to cover those downtown rents, but the trade-off is worthwhile, and as Portland becomes increasingly gentrified, its nice to support a small local business. I am a longtime customer of The Corner General Store, and like many locals, I have come to know the owner well. If you have an idea for something you think she should be carrying (especially something you know you will buy in the future), let her know - she is open to suggestions!

It is unfortunate that Zach Leland has posted very negatively about the wrong business! Zach is reviewing City Beverage, which is notorious for overcharging, not The Corner General Store. Why do I believe this? Well, for starters, I dont sell small turkey (or any sandwiches) for $8.00 and my canned sodas cost 99 cents, including sales tax and bottle deposit. I dont know what kind of cigarettes he bought, but many of the brands I carry are under $10. So, its unfortunate Zach Leland had an unfavorable experience, but its just a shame that he has attributed it to a business he did not patronize.

Customer service was terrible and the owner extremely RUDE. There isnt one item that is priced reasonably and for anyone looking for a good deal, you surely wont find it at the Corner General Store at 115 Middle Street. Not trying to be mean, its just my observation that prices are a little on the rediculous side. To think I would ever pay $8.00 for a tiny turkey sandwich ,$3.00 for a can of soda and $10.00 for a pack of Marlboro cigarettes is taking advantage of the customers and not living in reality. I will take my business elsewhere in the future.

Good selection of wines and beer. The staff are attentive and efficient. Great late night convenience location, for that part of town.
