OMG. Prepare to be overwhelmed. BPS is Disney for hunters, and outdoors folk of all kinds. My husband began work there when they were still building the place, so I know some of the extraordinary amount of care that went into all the details. For instance, they have at least one full-time position dedicated to the aesthetics - and when you begin to SEE everything, youll understand what an amazing undertaking that is. Hubby no longer works there as, unfortunately, they pay like other retail stores. Still, the work environment is extraordinary; and, since the place is so amazing, there are frequent opportunities for positive customer interaction. In addition to being a great place to shop, its also a fun, free* place to bring younguns. Theres a duck pond with a bridge passing near old boats; and a mounted egret, and alligator. The parking lot light posts have iron shapes of local wild animals; there are animal footprints pressed into the concrete sidewalk that continue with brass inlays throughout the store. Your eyes will try to take in the vast wealth of sportsman and sportswoman memorabilia, statuary. There are funny quotes, pictures of real catches, a one-of-a-kind mural depicting south Louisiana wildlife, a couple of flying flocks dangling from the ceiling, an indoor small duck pond with box turtles and fish, an indoor pond with a giant tortoise, an aquarium that backs up against the clear-walled elevator with super-size fish around a the corner from a 3D ceiling mural showing the bottom of a bateau *in the water* so that while you wait for the elevator, you can investigate the perils and possibilities of the fishing pond from the POV of a fish. There are trees that seem to grow through the stores floor that support a rural cabin, bears, sleeping hunter, and various other native critters. Tastes of the real butter and cream in-house-made fudge are free - and, oh-so-good! Theres a real, affordable adult pistol range; and a childrens rifle laser marksmanship game meticulously designed as a south Louisiana hunting camp. Id never seen so many rods; or known that reels could be as expensive as the boat on which theyre used. Theres an indoor display of boats and party barges that covers out 16% of the entire space. Although its neither discouraged nor encouraged, allowing children to climb in and out -checking out all the equipment, hidey-holes, seats and toggles- is great exercise for the kiddos, while being an air-conditioned venue for adults. And, then theres Islamorada, their exceptionally well-appointed, and delicious restaurant - also with dozens of mounted large Gulf fish. The saltwater aquarium in here is nearly the entire width of the somewhat separated restaurant building; which is a circle that has a wrought-iron fenced-in patio overlooking the pond. Really, if youre local or not far, this is a worthy destination. If you cant make ours, look for one near you. Theyre each individually designed to support and exhibit the local flora, fauna and achievements.

First of all let me say that I have always loved Bass Pro in Denham Springs. Ive enjoyed the atmosphere and shopping there. Until today. In the state of Louisiana, while it is illegal to purchase a handgun from a retailer if you are under 21, it is very much legal to own and to purchase a handgun face-to-face at 18 years of age. Apparently the gentlemen working behind the gun counter are not aware of these facts, as they so rudely put that Bass Pros policy is that to handle a gun from their counter, not even to buy, you must be 21, because "that is the age to own a handgun." I also found it very rude that the man "helping" us called out to another employee at the other end of the counter to ask what the age is to own a handgun, to which he replied 21 (incorrect) as if to humiliate us in front of the other customers. It amazes me that these men are so misinformed and uneducated about the very things they are trying to sell. My boyfriend and I even overheard one employee totally misinforming another customer about a Glock. Not to mention some of the guns are mislabeled. If you want to speak with someone who is actually informed about guns and has customer service skills, do not visit Bass Pro.

The Santa visit experience was an absolute joke. I thoroughly researched on the Bass Pro website before I went about the procedures to see Santa. I arrived at noon on Saturday expecting to wait a few hours in the standby line. Instead, I was told I needed to get a "Bass Pass" for which the wait was a whopping 5.5 hours away. I had driven 2 hours to take my 2 and 4 year old to see Santa so I was not happy about this. I summoned a manager and was summarily lambasted and berated by "Minos" as well as "Tamara" who, for all intents and purposes, told me how dumb I was to even fathom I could hope to see Santa. They saw no issue with me spending 5.5 hours in the store waiting. All I kept being told was "Im sorry you couldnt understand." The whole "see Santa" thing is a debacle and this Bass Pass thing is a joke. Id have rather seen a 5.5 hour standby line than be told I cant see Santa despite the line being 10 people long because I didnt get a "Bass Pass." They need to learn how Disney operates their Fastpass system if they want to do that. Had a horrible experience with their joke of a Trick or Treat for Halloween and now this, Im done with this place and will never go back again.

Brought my son to see Santa! Was pleasantly surprised to see the line was very short. Waited for about 2 minutes when an elf told me I was in the wrong line... the line was on the other side of the aisle. Oops! So my son and I stood in the "real line" for about 20 minutes before I heard another elf asking if anyone else had a 2pm pass. I asked what pass? I was then told by another patron that I needed a pass to wait in this line. I had to walk across the busy store to find the pass line and wait another 10 minutes in that line to get a pass for almost an hour from then. Okay! So we walk around, then get back in the "real line" about 25 minutes before our allotted time. The next elf asked if anyone else had a 2pm pass and pulled them to the head of the line. Clearly, they had missed their time since I had been standing there since past 2pm and they were well behind me. This whole ordeal is a joke. There is no signage with instructions and the wait is illogical. What ever happened to just get in line? The DMV has a better system and a shorter wait time. Wont go back next year!

Today I shopped in the gun department and was the only person at the counter. I asked the clerk behind the counter a question about a S & W pistol I was looking for. He was busy working on the shelves; never came over to help me but just said, "If you dont see it we dont have it. And might never have it." I asked about a Walther pistol and he motioned down the counter and said that Walther was down there. This is not the first time Ive tried to shop the gun department since the store opened but Ive never successfully had an employee actually try to help me. I gave up .... again... and left the store. Bass Pro is a stark contrast to the other stores that sell firearms in this regard. Im not upset; just resigned to the fact that I cant buy a firearm at your Denham Springs store.
