Robin is a joy to meet and talk to, and the food is incredible. The fame of her biscuits & gravy is VERY well-deserved -- and this is from a prospector who prides himself on making it at home really well! Theres a lot of gold in this part of the state, but anyone who does not make the Country Store their top priority when they visit Brown County for ANY reason is really missing out. The prospecting on Salt Creek after you park on Robins property is about as perfect as it gets. If theres not a prospectors meeting or something to crowd the parking, you can drive back and park right on the prospecting part of the creek. The prices at the store are just right, and its a great place to spend some money and relax before, during, and after a hard day of work, prospecting, or anything else! Bravo!

Read great things about this place online, so my husband and I decided to plan a whole day trip with the kids themed around rock hounding. We spent the first half of our day exploring the shops and attractions in Nashville, IN and the second half here. The lady owner is a gem herself, she is so friendly & patient and she quickly makes you feel welcome. The creek was alot of fun, so many beautiful minerals and rocks as well as geodes & fossils. Apparently there is a fair amount of gold in the creek, though we didnt try to spot any. We had a blast! We will definitely plan return visits and would recommend any prospectors in the area to check it out for themselves.

Robin Stevens the owner is a very nice lady. And everybody that works for her is great. A very friendly bunch, You will feel like they have known you for years on your first visit. She also sells and rents prospecting supplys like James said (above) plus their are several gold prospecting groups and clubs that meet there every month (Im a member of a few of them) and are always happy to meet new people also. One of the best things is you can have a pizza delivered right down to you on the creek and all the food is top rate. This part of salt creek is famous for Indiana gold and there are prospectors from many nearby states that come there just to hunt gold.

On a recent cycling tour with TRIRI, the September Escapade, my bride and I stopped at the Gatesville Country Store as we had heard that they had good pie. Good it was! I asked for a bit of ice cream and the very friendly woman behind the counter asked, "Would you like that warmed up a bit?" Nothing a lot better than warm homemade apple pie with a scoop of ice cream on it! As it turned out, the woman working there, I believe she is the owner, was very friendly and a font of knowledge about the area. My wife and I agree that of all the places we visited on our week cycle tour, Gatesville Country Store was a real favorite.

Persimmon pudding like no other! Its hard to find places that serve persimmon pudding, so this was a real treat. Even better, it was amazing!! Its an hour from home, but I see myself coming back. Edit: I just read that the owners name is Robin Stevens. My daughters name is also Robin Stevens :)

Great sandwiches can be found here made from fresh deli meat! Great little country store, everyone is friendly and Robin at the store rents gold prospecting equipment for cheap! Youll also find gold pans and everything you will need for a great day trip or a campout!

While this is an older facility, the owner goes above and beyond in the service department. Robin is an extremely helpful and friendly person who would probably give you the shirt off her back if she thought you needed it. You can tell she loves people.
