... the vampire (who has had all the happiness sucked out of her) sleeps until the afternoon! In the morning, there is a lovely woman with short hair who is always so kind. What a wonderful way to start your day- with a warm smile and coffee. The woman is like sunshine at 7 a.m., even in the winter! In the afternoon, there is an angry woman that does not treat customers with respect. Believe me, this was not a one time occurrence or even a "three strikes and your out" situation ,but single every time. I had a friend who asked specifically for no soy product in her coffee (due to an allergy) to which the dark haired pirate responded "Well you should have thought of that before you came to a vegan coffee shop!" Perhaps with her cruelty free vegan life style and her fair trade coffee, it hasnt dawned on her that she could make the biggest impact by first, treating the people around her fairly on a regular basis. It doesnt matter how many chickens you save, if you act like a pig and treat visitors like cows. Sometimes there is a guy with longish hair that works there. I once asked what the iced tea was like and he smartly replied "Ah, its cold..." Gee guy, thank you for the brilliant description. I was thinking different flavors, or fresh lemon, or awesome brew methods or the freaking pretty plastic cup that it might come in! Penny Lane is more of a club. Interestingly enough, most experiences that are negative seem to come from first time visitors or those that take their coffee to go. My advice, is try it but not in the afternoon. I also wrote this review because I thought no one else had an experience like this- until I started to ask around town. Hopefully, the workers that are burnt out (either on nerves or as in ice tea guys case, brain cells) will take a much needed break and allow the coffee shop to thrive. There are a few really nice people who work there but doom and gloom make it gamble.

I travel a lot for work and always make a point to visit a local coffee shop in whatever town Im in. If this is the best Evansville has to offer, Im pretty disappointed. I had a black coffee, which was fine, and the veggie burger sandwich, which was pretty bad. Basically just a Boca burger on sandwich bread. But to me the worst aspect was their lack of environmental concern. One reason I seek out local shops instead of Starbucks is their commitment to sustainability and fair trade practices. Whether their coffee is fair trade, I dont know, but I didnt see any recycle bins whatsoever, and their coffee is served in styrofoam cups. Yuck! I may as well buy gas station coffee if those are the practices Im supporting. Too bad. This could be a good place if some changes were made here and there.

I really liked this place, but over time have worked out that it really depends on whos working there on a particular morning. A couple of days ago it was great - perfect coffee served quickly with no fuss, but the last two mornings the service has been slow, and this morning the coffee was weak (which ruins a caffe au lait) and the bagel was not fresh. I would go if I knew whos day it was... Great atmosphere otherwise, but be prepared to wait (or not.)

On weekends when I have a few hours of homework to do, I bike over to Penny Lane for a cup of one their specialty coffees. Penny lane has a comfortable relaxed environment that lets me focus while still allowing me to glance up once and a while and look at some of the local artwork hung from the walls. Delicious coffee, relaxed environment and very much worth the trip (rain or shine)!

I love Penny Lane .The place I bring out of state visitors too. Bit gotta agree with some of the other reviews. I am not greeted when I walk in while others are greeted with cheery hello.some tomes the coffee is awful! Depends on the barista! I bike to PL feel like a regular, would be nice to be treated as one! No matter I guess I love the place.

This was my favorite coffee house while I was in my undergraduate and while driving through Evansville, I had to stop back in. I was not disappointed and was reminded of how delicious their drinks are, how cute the environment is, and how helpful the staff is. If youre in the Evansville area, you absolutely have to stop in.

Great hipster coffee joint! Indoor and outdoor seating. Right in the middle of the trendy spot of town. Coffee selection is great especially if you want to support small businesses rather than get Starbucks! They have all the options you could think of and also have food!

The inside doesnt do service to what I was seeing on the outside. Its a great logo, good location, but it feels like there isnt a lot of effort on the inside. The floors look dirty and I got the feeling there just arent often a lot of customers at the same time.

They have the smoothest cup of house coffee Ive ever tasted in all my 72 years!! The people are friendly, the place is comfortable....somewhat of a throwback to the coffee houses I frequented in my 20s! Minus the poetry readings and guitar playing. LOL

I love our lol coffee shop in Evansville. Me and my wife are all about local spending instead of franchise. The coffee is amazing and the ambiance is so relaxing and welcoming. I usually go to Starbucks but I think I have found a better alternative.

Prices typical of a coffee shop (in other words high). Hummus was kind of watery but the biggest annoyance was the TINY portion. Little more than a teaspoon full it would seem. That said the staff was very friendly and the drink was excellent.

Beautiful mesh of uppity white collar workers, uppity hipsters crowd and college freshman who desperately what to be one of the other. Easily the best local breakfast option.

I have gotten several drinks here and have thrown all of them out except the london fog. Cool vibes, most of the workers are nice. Good place to hangout.
