Its seldom I would give any business less than 3 stars, but unfortunately this establishment really screwed up on some service I had done there a couple years back. It only just recently became clear as to the magnitude of the screw up until recently when I did a major overhaul on my bike myself. I brought my 1999 VT750CD to Bob-Jo for seasonal service and tune up (carb tuning for aftermarket exhaust, fluids, spark plugs, valve adjustment). The essentially botched every aspect of the job. I got the bike back and the front left cylinder plug wire was not connected. I pointed it out when picking it up and was assured the just had to temporarily disconnect it for clearance (BS), and then quickly reconnected it. The bike was backfiring a lot and after a couple weeks a bad knocking sound started coming from the front head. This was a result of the front left spark plug nearly coming out entirely (it wasnt tightened down). Upon re-tightening the plug, it became apparent that the plug port on the head was either stripped or hopelessly clogged. After speaking with the tech that had worked on my bike I was assured that is is "common" for spark plugs to work their way out and that there was no way they had botched the spark plug install. Either way the plug wouldnt tighten down and I had bad compression in my front cylinder. So - I decided to pull the head myself and repair the plug port myself. The plug port turned out to be clogged thoroughly with engine sludge, which was a relief and a PITA simultaneously. I went to adjust the front valve clearance and the lock nuts on the valve adjustment screw were so tight that I had to use a large breaker arm to free them (Im 61" 180 lbs, my roommate is 65" 275lbs and neither of us could break them free with a regular 3/8" ratchet) - the torque spec for these is 17 lbs/ft. So apparently at Bob-Jo they have a tightening fetish too. Lastly, I went to adjust the rear cylinder valve clearance to spec... and there WAS NO VALVE CLEARANCE. The valve adjustment screws were completely bottomed out, holding the rear valves open slightly. So after bringing my pristine, well running honda to Bob-Jo, I got back a bike with low compression in both cylinders, non-tightened spark plugs, and non-existent valve clearance in one cylinder. They have a limited selection of bikes so I cant say much for sales. They do however have a fantastic parts department with a very knowledgeable and helpful staff. But despite that fact, I cant give them more than one star for costing me hundreds of dollars, 20+ hours of labor, and giving me back a bike that was downright dangerous to be on the highway with.
