I went with a couple of friends yesterday to chicago and my friend who knows chicago much better than either me or my other friend. took us to Reckless Records, I am a huge indie fan and I find shoping and looking through music to be one of the most calming things, so when I walked into the store my jaw dropped and I was in heaven. Granted some of the cds I was looking for they didnt have but they had an amazing selection one that would even make the biggest music buff blush. My friend was looking for two specific cds that she too could not find and when she asked the guy behind the desk he told her they didnt have it but the store on milwaukee would, so clearly these employees know what they are doing. I must say that on my way out I did take a few moments to look over the dvds and sure enough found a film that had been impossible to find up until that point, so I purchased it immediatly! All in All if I lived in chicago Reckless records would most likely become a regular hang out for me it was a music fans dream come true.

DO NOT!!! DO NOT!!! Take anything to sell at Reckless. On 5/23/13 my husband and I took at least 300 LPs to Reckless on Broadway to sell. I called that morning and was told that we needed to be there at least an hour before closing. We got there about 8:15 the store was closing at 10:00. We were told by Mark that he was the only one there to check recorders the other 2 guys left at 7:30. I explained to him that we came all the way from the South Suburbs and we would at least wait around until 9:00. To make a long story short when I went back in at 9:00 he offered us $60.00 for our records. I told him that would not even cover our gas. After talking to him he changed it to $75.00. We took it because my husband did not want to load all of those records back into the truck. We left there feeling awful. Because we know we were cheated BIG TIME!!! I hope this helps someone. Please do your research and go some where else.

Basically its a pawn shop and you are treated like a criminal if you want to re-sell your music, you must have a valid ID for police surveillance and record keeping. Dont expect much for reselling, youre better off throwing your wax, CDs, DVDs in a landfill. Although, there is a good selection if youre a buyer, except not everything is cheep. The international section does not have the most contemporary music from abroad, theres a lot of old Edith Piaf and Gainbourg and old Italian wedding folk music. Dont expect Indochine, BB Brunes, Mylène Farmer, Gigi Agostino, Dario Guidi, Georgina, Eiffel 65, or even Fiorella Manoia !

Pros: Large selection of records and vinyl, hosts a number of band meet & greets. Cons: Mainly used records. I cant say Ive interacted with the staff or can elaborate on a purchasing experience here, as I came when they had a Chvrches meet & greet. From the time spent in the line, the selection I perused seemed large and varied. The store is spacious and aisles were wide, giving it a less of a cramped and small record store feel. The meet & greet was handled by the store efficiently and smoothly, though slow, as the band gave each person a generous amount of time to chat.

Great selection of used and new vinyl and cds. Its a lot of fun just to browse around the store, especially since the store maintains a nice genre-based sort and has little staff recommendations/notes on many records, so you can be fairly sure what kind of music youre getting, even if youre just choosing by cover art. If youre looking for something specific, the staff is very helpful, and can almost always find what you need, and will order anything they dont have. My favorite record store, all told.

I dont know if the employees are aware of this, but they can be total douches. Ive only been a hand full of times, but they never failed to make sarcastic remarks or belittle my lesser musically inclined friends. What? So you listen to some bands that other people dont, that makes you better? I dont think so. The records on the other hand! Theyre great, you can find some pretty hard to locate stuff at this place, but of course, those douches totally mess things up.

Been coming here for about eight years now. They usually have a decent selection of items available, and if they dont have what you want you can have them put it on a list for you when they get it in. And if something does not play you can return it (Ive never had that problem). Also the staff is pretty pleasant. What more can you ask for.

I miss the old location across the street where I used to buy Punk Planet and original--not rereleased underlined--Slapstick records. This place is still the best place to buy records at cheaper-than-online prices, and if you go for used CDs, you can find EVERYTHING for cheap.

This is the place you wanna go for your records! Lots of hidden gems as well as platinum sellers on both vinyl as well as CDs. Helpful staff and good prices for the quality of music. Definitely a must-see if in the area and you have a little time to browse.

Always enjoy going to this store when I am in the Chicago. It is amazing to see it transition from CDs to primarily vinyl over the last 18 months. Really good punk selection, but mostly used stuff. Not much new, remastered, reissued items on vinyl though.

Sooooooo many stuff to check out here! Old and new. Records, classic, and more! Tshirts displaying different music bands. Great place for a date night to get to know each others taste. And conveniently close to restaurants or cupcake bakery.

good-sized vinyl selection, new and used records mixed. the real vinyl treasure here is the massive selection of bargain records. if youre willing to invest a little time, you can find a few worthwhile albums for the price.

Great place to browse games and DVDs, but I seldom find myself actually buying anything at this location. Much prefer the music selection and the atmosphere at the Milwaukee Ave location instead.

The best record store in Chicago. Very large catalog and has some vinyls of the best indie bands out there. I would recommend this to any music fan or anyone that wants to start collecting vinyls.
