I purchased a case of chicken wings from gfs and when I began to prep it there was a loud sour odor. It was after store hours so I immediately tossed the chicken in the trash and removed it from the kitchen. Ive been purchasing cases from them for some months now and never ran into this problem. Although they do sell cases for a marked down price when to expiration date is near, that wasnt the case for my purchase. I steer clear of those markdowns. Now Ive lost 1 day of prepping for an event along with a case of chicken wings. I contacted the stores manager Ben Yerkes and he informed me that he doesnt do any compensation without the product and there was nothing else he could do. So this means dumpster diving and then loading this horrible smelling chicken into my vehicle to transport the product. Mr. Yerkes suggested wrapping the chicken in hefty bags, (which I dont have handy), to transport without leakage. Im apart of a small start up business and with the prices of chicken wings on the rise I just hate to take a loss like that. But lesson learned, my business may be small and not matter to gfs but its still business and customer satisfaction should be a priority.
