Welcome to D.C. and the East Coast, Philz! This cult coffeehouse has made its debut on the other side of the country yesterday, and I was so happy to be apart of its grand opening. Even the founder, Phil Jaber, was onsite to welcome guests and take pictures. Based in San Francisco, Philz Coffee started over 10 years ago and has 30 locations in the Bay Area and L.A. alone. This D.C. location is the first location outside of the West Coast. What an honor! Philz specializes in drip coffees and most importantly, in getting your order exactly the way you want it - "crafting your perfect cup." There are 30 different blends of drip coffee with jazzy names like Tesora, Philharmonic, Dancing Water, Jacobs Wonderbar, and Canopy Heaven. Each barista knows every flavor note to every blend and will make recommendations for you. After theyve brewed your coffee, theyll get you to taste it in front of them and they can adjust your coffee right there and then. It can be a bit daunting at first to taste your coffee in front of your barista and say whether its good or not, but thats what they want! Their goal is to create a perfect cup of coffee personalized for you. The process is very personal and very social. I ordered their special mint mojito iced coffee. It has quickly become my favorite kind of iced coffee. Minty, sweet, and creamy all at once - this is the perfect refreshing drink for a hot day. You can bet your bottom dollar that Ill be back for more of these delicious drinks. Philz also offers baked goods from Rise Bakery like brownies, scones, and other pastries. Lovely interior with plenty of open space, cool artwork, and local made furniture. They have another location in D.C. opening up soon by the Yards. So happy to see them expanding in the district!

Welcome to DC, Philz! This California coffee chain is beloved by anyone from the sunny state and DC is the first city outside of California to get a Philz Coffee and were not just getting one, but TWO (The second location opens in May 2016 in Navy Yard in SE DC). This location is spacious just off the main drag of Adams Morgan. It has big windows keeping the vibe light and inviting. There are several tables scattered throughout that seats two, a few cushioned chairs, and a long wooden community table. They offer an array of snacks from sweet croissants to savory scones. Their avocado butter toast is great! Their coffee is definitely quality. If its your first time and are a more casual coffee drinker, you may be intimidated, but they have plenty of staff to welcome you and gently walk you through your order. They personalize your order and even ask what other drinks you like so they can create something just for you. They ask you what cream level you want and sweetness level (lots of sweet for me!). Ill definitely stop by Philz when Im in the area and cannot wait for the Navy Yard location to open!

If you are thinking about going to the Starbucks across the street- dont. This place is amazing! A more inviting atmosphere, more seating with plugs for computer work, super friendly staff that takes the time to make sure your drink is exactly as you like it (and theyll change it if it isnt!), and yummy food and drinks. Theyre barely more expensive than Starbucks (though they dont have frappes that I saw) but they make all sorts of gourmet coffee blends for real coffee lovers. Im so glad I came here and I wish this store was in my town!

A very wide selection of quality coffee with many unique blends and specialties. Their goal is to make sure you walk away satisfied with you coffee and put in every effort to make it perfect. The food selection looks good if a bit scant, but this is a coffee shop after all. I had a brownie and it was moist, chocolatey, and delicious. Every one there was extremely friendly and welcoming, making it really feel like a place to come and relax. I see good things coming from this place!

PHILZ IS HERE! Full disclosure: I fell in love with Philz in college and Ive been looking forward to this opening for months, but wow did they love up to the expectations set by their store in Palo Alto. Philz is a great place to go for pour over coffee and they really go the full distance to make sure every customer loves their cup. Just dont get weirded out by them taking over on adding milk and sugar, its definitely worth it.

I have to be honest...the coffee shop was much nicer and way different than I really expected for a place with a name and logo/brand like Philz. The interior was very nice and the very technical way of making each cup one at a time exceeded my expectations. There are a TON of options and this is not just your regular cup of coffee. Try it out - you, too, will likely be surprised.

The drinks are great and theyll really customize it for you so its awesome. I was hesitant about getting the soy mint mojito the first time but now im hooked. its unlike anything Ive ever had but its great!

Totally love the coffee and service. I enjoyed the Philz Coffee in my neighborhood at Santa Monica California and glad to see it appear in my neighborhood in Adams Morgan. It may not be 100% Cali coffee but Philz staff make up the difference. I hope the trend and service continues cause I hate the rest of DC coffee scene and coffee brew.

Oh Philz!! How Ive missed you!! Grabbed a large mint mojito and Mediterranean avocado toast, so satisfying and delicious!! Mojito was just like I remembered back in California. I bought a pound of Tesoro, cuz who knows when Ill make it back.. its a beast to get to if you dont live in The neighborhood... DC traffic!

very pleasantly surprised. Went in looking for a latte, only to learn that this place specializes in pour overs and does not make lattes. Very satisfied with my drink. Im a huge coffee snob, roast my own beans, so take it from me, this is a decent place for a cup of coffee, nice attitude from the employees as well.

I am a philz devotee dating back to 2009 when I first encountered them in SF I have high expectations So far theyve been met and exceeded in some departments The baked goods have improved on the other coast over the years, however the baked good here are starting out at a higher caliber already! First time to this coffee place. Was impressed by the wide selection of coffee. For someone that likes to try different roasts this a great place to try. Coffee is brewed to order so it does take a little bit of time. I had the new Manhattan light roast brewed over iced. Was a great cup of coffee.

Love Philz Coffee! They make your coffee to perfection...and if they dont, voice it! Theyll gladly redo it to make it the best drink. Huge work table and stable Wifi for perfect remote working. Try the Mint Mojito. Its something your taste buds wont begin to understand. Highly recommend

Awesome coffee, baristas are wonderful and helpful. Staff is friendly so might be a little slow going as they like to have conversations with patrons. Seating is extensive. Others will leave you alone if you want to do your own thing or usually friendly to strike up conversation.
