This is not everyones kind of bar. Avoid it if youre allergic to dogs, or if you want to watch a game (there is a TV but its usually muted or set to soccer), or if you want to get drunk and eat greasy food. 1) Really, really good beer selection. Though theres no drafts, all bottles.. from all around the world. Theres a chiller that cools beer down in 3 minutes if its on the shelf and you want it cold. Theres also a lot of wine & scotch, but I cant speak to the selection as I dont drink either. 2) Dog friendly. Theres a big ole black lab running around, very friendly. Tries to be a lapdog, so be careful if you sit on a low couch! Dont go if youre very allergic to dogs! You can also bring your own dog. 3) Clean. The shelves are dusted regularly. There *isnt* tons of dog hair around, which is what youd expect for a bar with a dog. The bathroom is immaculate. 4) Knowledgeable proprietor. Older reviews paint him as a snobby guy. He does talk a lot but hes very approachable, and doesnt judge people who arent as obsessed with alcohol. I mentioned two beers I really like and asked for a recommendation and he gave me a great one without sneering about it. 5) Good bar food. Spicy South Indian food at lunch. I love this stuff. 6) Nice decor. Low couches and benches to lounge on, very cozy. 7) Quiet atmosphere. I dont really like loud places. There arent big tables, so you cant have a party of > 3 sit together easily. While I was there a businessman gave a small presentation to his two colleagues on his laptop. He didnt have to yell over music. 8) Wifi. nuff said. Its amazing how many bars DONT have wifi. 9) No students! Mostly a professional crowd, instead of loud and drunk twenty somethings. The clientele takes their cues from the owner and are very friendly.

Just stopped in the other night for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. Greeted by the friendly dog and the owner. Had a couple of drinks at the bar and the bar tender (I think Mike) was very friendly and made you feel welcomed. Had a couple of scotch drinks that I never tasted before and Mike let me have a small free taste of a couple more so I could then buy a bottle next door. Its great taste testing before spending a lot of money on Scotch. Other patrons were friendly and its a comfortable place to start up a conversation with someone youve never met. Warm, relaxing atmosphere. Reminds me of little bars found in Philly or New York. Prices may be a bit higher than your average bar but thats to be expected with great service and style that you cant find going to a strip mall liquor store or Wild Wings. One other thing to mention (and some may take this as a good OR bad thing) but there is no TV anywhere in the lounge or bar area. Music was playing in the background softly enough to talk without yelling. So if youre going to watch a game then you may have to look elsewhere. Although I enjoyed not having the TV because it encourages you to engage in an actual conversation with someone. FYI-there is a Spa/hair salon next door so a perfect excuse to take the wife/girlfriend and treat them to a manicure while you enjoy the next door lounge at Veritas!

I totally love Veritas! I am a regular customer---both for personal and business needs---and recommend them to many of my friends & colleagues. We discovered this shop about 3 or 4 years ago, while looking for a place to grab a quick bottle of wine for an impromptu party. Not only was Venu (shop owner) helpful to us that night, he recommended several other options that we return to again and again. He has great suggestions for every price point, carries unique bottles (beer & wine), and is knowledgeable and passionate about his work. The shop is a truly fun, homey, relaxed community place to shop, hang out, and learn something new. In addition, Veritas is generous and community-minded (partners with a number of area organizations & non-profits) and welcoming to patrons and their pets. that said, I have NEVER, EVER experienced what the below reviewer reports, so I can only suspect this was an unfortunate and isolated incident. I personally LOVE that I am welcomed by the shop dog, Vino, and he makes the trip fun every time. I wish I could keep it my own little secret but I cant. Bottom Line: you MUST visit this shop!

Three suggestions: 1. List prices for your wine. 2. Dont overprice your wine. 3. When somebody is standing at the register to pay for the overpriced wine, dont spend time trying to impress customers who look like they might spend a lot of money with your knowledge of lambics and doppelbocks instead of walking to the cash register and processing the transaction. Oh, and the dog barking in the background from inside the store? Really? Will not come back.

Veritas is a unique place to drink, relax and listen to good music. You can even bring your dog. If you want to have a drink and meet a new friend, Veritas is the place to go. One side of the shop is an actual store with a great selection of wine and beer. The hidden treasure is in the back where you can enjoy a drink without getting charged extra. The ambiance is relaxed and theres always a good laugh to be had. I recommend stopping in day or night!

Love this place! Its like a wine and liquor store plus lounge. You can make your own six packs with an amazing beer selection. The owner is very knowledgeable which helps because I know nothing about good wine. By far my favorite place to buy beer, wine and liquor. They also have tasting all the time and cool events open to the public. Great location too. Just wish the city would allow more 15min spots.

This place deserves zero stars. The owner of this establishment should be ashamed of himself. Not only does he have three dogs in the store, but they are not potty trained. There are puddles of urine and piles of feces scattered around the store. One of the piles my boyfriend accidentally stepped in ruining a expensive pair of shoes. The board of health should shut this place down.

Great selection of beers and wine! Be on the lookout for the tastings that take place... wine, beer, scotch, and port to name a few... Who could forget the EPIC two month long March madness style tasting of the beers?? Go and check it out!

Venu is a great guide to wines and spirits and often has a bottle open in the bar in the back in case you want to try before you buy. Also a good spot to get an authentic Indian lunch.
