First-off, I hate writing negative reviews- ESPECIALLY if Ive only been to a place once where it could have just been an "off" day, but Dover Saddlery would have far more going for it with a little concern for customer service for ALL customers. Im not writing this as a first, or even second time visitor. This is the *fourth* time Ive driven an hour to visit this store and have been completely and utterly ignored by all of the staff during a period when most of them were milling around and conversing with each other. Each time I hoped it was just a fluke and continued going for their variety of inventory; but by the fourth visit, shame on me. I saw other customers (such as a woman in her 50s) being doted and fawned upon for a good half hour and I came in looking for both clothing and a saddle and couldnt get a scrap of interest from the staff the entire hour and 15 minutes I was in the store searching for and trying on clothing and sitting in saddles. Again- it was not busy and I know they saw me because they would skirt around me as I searched for my size at the racks. I also kept getting strange glances from a middle-aged blonde woman who worked there. Im in my early 30s, was wearing my old Dubarry boots, and yet somehow felt like a 12-year-old being watched for shoplifting at a drug store. By the time I wandered to the register with over $200 in merchandise, the blonde woman folding the clothing purchases (not the woman completing the transaction) continued to glance at me strangely before remarking with some degree of scorn about the small size of clothing I had purchased. I dont even think they said good-bye after my transaction was complete. I did- and it felt awkward. It was a frustrating visit considering I spent time in interstate traffic to spend hundreds of dollars, only to leave feeling completely dejected. Ive wracked my brain as to why each time has been so terribly unpleasant and the only thing I can come up with is perhaps they have "regulars" from the area and I have not established some sort of rapport. I dont know. All I know is Ill be doing a lot more online shopping and visiting smaller stores in my area. The inventory is lower, but at least they want my business.

My daughter rides English. We dont have many choices when it comes to buying items for her riding and her horse. I am a regular at Dover, however their staff are just plain rude. We went in to buy tall boots for my daughter to start getting accustomed too. The older lady who came to help us was extremely rude. She treated us like we were no better than bums off the street. My daughters size of boots was not in, so we had to order them. Turns out, the lady never ordered the boots. I waited and waited for the call that they came in only to find out she never ordered the boots because she was "sure wed never come in and pay for them." Ive since ordered my daughters tall boots and show gear online. The computer wont treat me like common trash such as this lady does. Weve recently purchased a new horse for my daughter. Im forced to go back in to Dover to buy her the tack she needs for this horse. Im hesitant to even walk in the door as Im sure Ill be treated just as badly as Ive been treated thus far. I spend a lot of money in that store. The staff should learn some manners when it comes to helping people out. I pray they wont screw up my daughters Christmas for her as the horse and tack are Christmas presents. They seem to care very little for helping customers out.

My daughter amd i were shopping for a new helmet among other things. We are both new to riding and needed alot of advice. My daughter wanted a pink helmet that was on display, but after the sales person fitted her, she explained that the fit was not exactly right and got her a different helmet that she said fit better. My daughter was disapointed that it did not come in the color she wanted and told me she wanted the pink one she picked out. The sales woman , Brooke, was so patient with her and even shared her personal story of how when she was a child, she fell with a helmet that did not fit correctly which caused her to have a stroke and said that was why she now has a disabity. My daughter agreed to the helmet that fit better without hesitaion and I am so happy that she cared enough about a customer to share her story and and make sure my daughter is protected. We also purchased a helmet for me and matching outfits from their large selection and we cant wait to show them off at our next lesson.

The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. I am a working horsewoman. I dont have a lot of time to shop for tack and clothing for riding, or time to keep up with whatever is the "latest and greatest" of every product. Its wonderful to be able to walk into a Dover store and get the run down on each item. Today for example, one employee Tina helped me work through the myriad of breeches options. Without her help I probably wouldnt have tried the Kerritts style she pointed out that I love and Im sure Ill be wearing all winter. Another employee, an active showing horsewoman walked me through the vast number of choices of girths, saddle pads, stirrup leathers and stirrups for a new saddle. Great time saver as I live an hour away and try to avoid returns. I greatly appreciate their help and always look forward to a visit to the store.

Terrible customer service. I drove 2.5 hours to get to the store to look at their GPA helmets. I was one of 2 customers in the store with 4 employees. I tried for over 30 minutes to get someone to help me so I could try on a helmet, but was staunchly ignored in favor of the blanket section of the Dover catalogue. The employees wouldnt look up from the catalogue long enough to even make eye contact with me. I only got an employee to speak to me after I left and came back in to speak to the manager. Needless to say, I left empty handed; its hard to make a purchase when cooing at the minature horse blankets is a higher priority than assisting the customer. I recommend staying far away from this store.

I always love coming to this store. Every time I shop, the service has been exceptional and the selection is great. I was shopping for chaps and happened to mention that the Ariat boots I bought a few months ago had not held up that well and I was told I could return them. I was surprised because I had worn them a lot , but I had them in my truck and they exchanged them for me right then. I didnt even have my receipt, but the sales woman was able to look it up and I got a brand new pair! I will definitely be making many more purchases here with that kind of customer service.

I recently purchased Cavallo boots for my horse. The first pair did not fit, so I returned them. After getting the correct size, the boots were still not working for my mare, after a couple rides. They took the boots back, full refund, no questions asked. Even though this purchase did not work out for me, they were great to work with and willing to help out with a product that just didnt work out for me. It was my first contact with this store, but I will consider shopping there in the future based on their service alone.
