Still sells their famous molasses cookies (the cookies might be a tad smaller than they used to be, but I was much younger when I first found this place). No cash register at the cookie counter, its the honor system, just leave your money on the counter and choose a cookie. This store has been serving the local ranching community since 1886. Ive been visiting this store off and on since 1968, for 47 years. Things have changed over the decades. One used to be able to buy overalls, Lee Jeans, hats, and other cowboy essentials. One still can, but theyve shifted much of their inventory to tourist items, but many of these items have a ranching flavor or a bit of the local music scene over the last several decades when they started having local music on some weekends. Neal Young lives up on a ranch not far away, and he and/or some other buddies will get together and play a few numbers. Anybody who posts a negative review has had undoubtedly had an experience where the store employees have not gotten on theirs knees to serve them. It is still very much a local store, serving their regular customers, and if you enter this establishment with some sense of entitlement, one may indeed be disappointed. But if you visit often enough you may become part of the scene here, eventually. If you can respect that tourists are ephemeral, and locals are family, and just enjoy this place for the history and gravitas of it as a local institution, youll find this to be a place you might want to visit more than once a decade.

I have recently had the pleasure to spend some time at the store. A real throwback. Very local atmosphere with free live music on weekends. I have seen many people, tourists, cyclists, musicians, auto enthusiasts stop to enjoy a rather eclectic mix of retail, local bar and music scene. I must admit that the service is very laid back and can seem unconcerned but I have not encountered any mistreatment of the many bicylists or others who enter the place. I realize that use of facilities by people who are not patrons could be an issue, the place is crowded on weekends, but if you are there for more than that (bathroom) it is a charming local color stopover on a trip to the coast. Plan to stay a few minutes and enjoy the rustic atmosphere of a functional time capsule.

On a recent Sunday my wife and I were fortunate enough to stop at the San Gregorio general store after a long motorcycle ride with some friends. What a fantastic find. We found an eclectic array of goods from books to clothing to food. A long wooden bar runs along the right side of the store. There was even a very good live band playing at the back of the dining area; I later learned that there is a band there every Sunday. A definite must see if you are in the area.

Ive come to the Country Store for over 15 years, and let me tell you, it used to be cool. Not sure if they changed ownership, but the place has lost its way. Stay away if you look for friendly management or halfway decent food. This place could be awesome if they just cared a little bid about the people who keep them in business.

BT nailed it. This place has gone to hell. The dude who works weekends there is a total d-bag. Avoid it like the plague if you are on a bike (the 17 lb variety). Youre better off getting snacks in Pescadero at the market/bakery, or at the Bike Hut on Tunitas Creek Road. Vote with your cleats, and DO NOT patronize this place!

Love this place been coming here for ever. Drinks are reasonable, and great selection of bottle beer. Friendly staff who make great drinks! Cyclist who dont like this place..... good, spend your sweaty stinky wet money else where. P.S Music on weekends.... If Bundy Brown is playing stop in, well worth it!

The only thing nice about the place is the outside of the building. The person manning the counter made us feel like she was doing us a favor by greeting us. The merchandise is nothing but useless junk with trite liberal sayings on them. Yawn. Very disappointing. It could be so much more than it is.

Great place to stop and refuel when on a bike ride to the coast. Not sure I care for the rule that cyclist have to take their shoes of (most cleats wont hurt a floor any more than a high heel shoes) but theyre nice people and Im sure they can make that change with enough feedback.

Its hard to call this a general store, since they dont really sell food, but rather gifts and other trinkets. There is a barrista and live music sometimes. The hot chocolate we ordered was not great. I love the drive between San Gregorio and Pescadero on Stage road.

I never stop here anymore, very rude to cyclist and Id rather spend my $s in Pescadero. It used to be a great place to stop and purchase a snack, Ive been coming here since 1989. "Take your shoes off! Are you going to buy anything!" (Not anymore!!!)

An adorable, rather spacious, general store with wood countertops, coffee served in delightfully ugly Christmas mugs and a literary-esque waitress who gives little bird trills at random intervals. Quite an enjoyable stop off Highway 1.

Best Hot Toddy of my life here. Just the right atmosphere for it. Live local music, eclectic collection of art, clothes, books, trinkets, and necessities. Definitely stop in on your way to/from the beach. It is a place all its own.

This is one of the best finds in the bay area. Adorable, eclectic general store with awesome bloodies and an interesting crowd of locals, road bikers, etc. Often local bands playing - bluegrass! Cn spend hours here on a weekend.

Nostalgic and a great find. Lots of amazing books, people, and good conversations. They serve alcohol, so you can have a visit, listen to some good music on their premises, and have a brew.

This place, what can I say. I discovered it driving around the coast in 1991 and I make sure I stop by for a Sierra Nevada and a convo with the bartender anytime Im in the bay area.

Great place to enjoy local music on the weekends. Good selection of beverages, but limited food selection. Eclectic selection of goods, books, puzzles, clothes, and decorations.

Cool spot for random nick nacks (like tons of hats) and maybe a drink. The food options were pretty sparse though... better to go elsewhere if you want a fresh made sandwich.

Creepy pasta! As close to the left hand path as you can get without really saying so while playing the hippie cowboy. If youre into that sort of vibe youll like it.

You have to visit to see. This is a classic old-school everything local store with great food. Its a must stop for cyclists going to the coast and back to refuel.

Absolutely worth a stop when going through San Gregorio. All of what you expect from a general store. Plus a great book selection and life music on the weekend.
