Almost a five star. Really great books, loved the staff picks. Found a great antique book on crazy ways people used to get high in the olden days. My experience was nearly perfect until the store employee scoffed as at some poor mans book choices. The man was trying to sell his old books. The store clerk didnt have to buy all of them off him, but his loud and SUPER rude reaction made me feel so so sorry for this sad dude who admittedly only needed enough money to get a bus ride. After he left the guy left with head hung low, store clerk loudly discussed the book choices with someone across the store. Super pretentious and lacking of love. Be nice.

This is one of the Dog Eared BooksIve ever been to. Its incredibly large! There are so many stacks and shelves of books. There are four levels. You could literally walk around this place all day and not get bored. One of the things I liked about Dog Eared Books is how well organized their selection is, unlike many used book stores. Of course, like most places like this, its helpful to have an idea of what youre looking for before you go in to avoid feeling overwhelmed by how much there is.

I love this book store, its so unique and taken care of with so much love that it is fun to just hang out there and browse the various books. I find it so much nicer to be in an actual bookstore than to get the books from amazon. The staff is very friendly, the ambiance is very cozy and invites outside strollers to come in. The best part is the gift paper you get for free when you ask. It is a world map and nicely wrapped around your books :)

Called looking for a book to have sent to a friend who lives in San Francisco and swear to you, the woman who helped me could not have been more lovely. She gave thoughtful advice and had a wonderful knowledge of the type of book I was looking for. Will make visiting this store a priority next time I am in SF, but for now, am blown away by their service even half a state away :)

I like bookstores, but Dog Eared is love. Great inventory, great vibe. I always leave with something I didnt go in with the intent to buy and that is the best. And I can never pry my three year old away from the kids corner. And the staff is lovely to both me AND her which any parent knows goes a really long way.

Perfectly charming and apropos. This book store has wonderfully friendly staff, an eclectic selection, and titles you dont see everyday. Just browsing, I doesnt nearly a half hour here initially looking for one book and finding so many others. Definitely a great place to peruseand buy books or waste time wisely.

I love used book stores and this is by far my favorite in the city. I found such great novels here. I never leave empty handed. Plus its so nice to be able to find what I want and not have to pay a ridiculous price cause its new. I do recommend this to any one who is a serious book worm.

Perfectly shambolic, unique bookstore with great stock - both recent paperbacks in great condition and rarer finds, matched with charming, clever staff who know their stuff, and a calm atmosphere where youre happy to browse a wide selection. Cheapo books on the street outside, too.

Nice mix of used and new books and great staff recommendations. Poetry section is really great and spotlights several poetry small presses that you otherwise may never get exposed to--really well curated and love walking out with new discoveries.

Great atmosphere, amazing selection, and the employees know the store like the back of their hand. Very helpful with any question thrown at them. Really seems to capture the vibe of the district-activism kids books and all.
