I have had two very extraordinarily bad customer-service experiences at Temple Coffee, downtown. After the first experience where they argued w/ me and basically accused me of trying to steal milk, I wrote a letter and I did get a reply back. I decided recently to go back, as they do have very good espresso. I got overcharged. The new cashier at the front was nice and apologized but the other two ladies who joined in were both either very rude or totally clueless because between the two of them they could not decide what was the surcharge for the ATM ($.035) versus the actual cost of a double. I ordered a single. Single, Single, Single. One shot. So easy. I was charged for two. The drink, I confirmed, had one shot. One. I was charged for two, why is that so hard. They seriously argued with me for 5 minutes before they finally gave me the $0.60 back. This drink, on record, a "single" was $4.35 BEFORE the ATM surcharge of, once again, $0.35. The total was therefore $4.65 on the receipt. How hard is that -- I ask you -- to decipher? Not. Hard. At. All. I am clearly still upset by this. I wont ever walk in there again.

Walking in from the crowds of homeless near J street, I instantly felt comfortable. Its just far enough from the normal foot-traffic that one could sit and enjoy the bright front patio, and inside the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. Im not surprised I didnt spot it before, its sort of tucked in and hiding, but its spacious on the inside, and feels soft and warm. The furniture is rustic and very comfortable. The large bay windows, red bricks and live plants are nice. They play jazz, Sinatra, light music which compliments the traditional decor. Its good coffee, which rates among the best in Sac. I havent tried anything else they serve. It all looks pretty fancy though. The service is perfect. They arent hopping around and frantic, but get the job done right (and fast) without disturbing the friendly mood. It speaks to the experience of the baristas, they work as smoothly as a well-oiled machine. The main reason for 5 stars is the wifi. Open wireless and plenty of plugs for electricity makes it the perfect spot to spend a morning on the laptop, and perhaps write a short review on a nice coffee shop.

Review from 12.20.2013 Im ready to worship at the altar of this Temple. The cappuccino is transcendental. The baristas are very friendly and informative. Their locale downtown looks airy and palatial with elongated, vertical lines. Whenever possible, I shun dark roasts which seem to have but one simple, burnt note. I prefer to be able to detect a hint of chocolate or some apricot or a touch of Merlot. This is the perfect place for more complex roasts. Update 5.24.2015 Um, I guess tastes change; I bought their Ethiopia Boke Espresso coffee and Im preparing it with the Italian stovetop coffee maker. Its excellent, very chocolatey, but also slightly smoky, strong and deep.

Temple is a very classy coffee shop where you can order a variety of exotic coffee and tea drinks. Its basically Sacs version of Intelligentsia as they have cool styles of brewing/pouring the coffee and beans from around the world. The inside decor is clean and modern, making it very hipster. There is nice patio with shade for those who want to chill outside. I got a mocha latte and it was good. My friend got some coffee in a glass pot and it looked pretty cool. Overall, I like this place as a study cafe or place to hang out. Not too many outlets so charge your phone and laptop beforehand!

Ive been to Temple only 5 times, but each time Ive gone Ive enjoyed it. Typically I get tea ( which they give you more water for the leaves when youre done ), so for only a few dollars I get 10 cups of tea, but last time I went there I got some hot chocolate. It was certainly the most delicious hot chocolate I have ever tasted. And if youre a student, its a great place to study or have study groups at. I was there for 3 or 4 hours with my study group and the employees didnt seem upset about our staying for so long ( though I assume you should purchase something if youre going to study there ).

Waited 10 mins in line while there was only 3 person in front of me. Then they told me I was in the wrong line. Long story short, they made me get back in line on the opposite side; where the line already have few people waiting, giving the fact that line started after I came in. I was totally confused. Poor customer service and they dont even care. Instead of trying explain, we left and walk down to the Starbucks on L St and 12th St. This is not a place y Where you want to get something quick.

wish I could give you negative stars.. your employees are rude and management discriminates must be trump supporters ...obviously we see where your heart is...and its not in your community... you will feel the sting soon. in your pockets.. someone needs to protest in front of your overpriced establishment...and we wil..a few dollars a day of loss adds up and your hate will cost you...shame on you...

The coffee is good, but pricey. The interior is well designed and relaxing, clean but pretty unremarkable clientele. The internet service is also really really spotty. You can be there when its practically empty and you still will have problems logging onto the web which is very frustrating when youve just spent $2.50 on a cup of coffee. i dunno, not good, not bad, middle of the road

Great coffee, service, and atmosphere. Love this shop and always stop by when I make it out to Sacramento. While all there drinks are good there Mochas are by far my favorite of any place I have been to. It has a little spice to it just like Mexican hot chocolate, and it just seals the deal, truly recommend it to anyone who enjoys coffee or tea.

Ive walked here with my friend on our morning dog walk. We get 2 pots of Sweet Tea and chill with the dog in the little table & chairs seating area right out front. People have been pretty nice about having the dog there. So if you have a well behaved dog and a friend to order your drinks come here and sit a spell. The Sweet Tea is delicious

My boyfriend took me here on a Sunday night at around 10pm and I was amazed they where still open. The coffee is amazing! The atmosphere is relaxing and calm everyone there seemed relaxed. They have art books laying around for anyone to draw in which I thought was an amazing idea because I love to draw. I must say my favorite place for coffee

I love the decor and ambiance of this place! The latte art was beautiful, the fruity African sunset tea was great, and the croissant was giant and reasonably priced. This is a great place to study or get work done. Theres metered street parking but if youre staying at a hotel downtown, its walking distance.

I dont why, but a girl named Shannon there has major attitude when she answers the phone. I called to see if they had TVs at the coffee shop, and she didnt understand what a TV was, so she just decided to hang up on me. I called back to get her name, but she acted like it wasnt her. Really rude service!
