This is a terrific place to take your kids for an afternoon if you want them to have a great time and learn about California history. The place is absolutely enormous and being able to get up close and personal to some of these huge trains and climb inside them is a once in a lifetime experience. There is also a wonderful program they hold at Christmas time where they simulate the Polar Express experience.

My wife and I went to the museum and did know anything about it except it was trains. WOW! The movie was great and all the displays are great. I especially liked the Sleeper Car where it rocked and sounded like you were on the tracks. The Model Train collection was very impressive. My father who is Train nut will love this when he comes to visit. Thanks! We went away with a new appreciation of Trains.

There were lots of trains, tidbits of information, and more trains. This might bore some of the younger or short attention spanned people but people that are genuinely intetested in trains should definitely check this place out! There was only one train you can go in and although it was cool--even simulated so you feel like its moving--its the only train you can go in which kinda bummed me out.
