Philz coffee is a solid place for some coffee and a small breakfast. I certainly in around 745 on a Tuesday morning and walked in, I was a little skeptical based on the cheesy surf decor that is so prevalent in Huntington Beach these days, but I saw they had quite a few choices of different styles of coffee so I was hoping they at least knew their coffee. I ordered a small Aromatic Arabic for $3.50. it a took a few minutes to make as they brewed it fresh, so I stepped over to the food counter where I looked at what food they had to offer. It seemed to be mostly fruit and different variations of toast. I saw an avocado egg toast, and since I currently live in Europe I have to get all the avocado I can in before I leave. The server was a bit slow to make the toast but by then my coffee was ready so I picked it up and came back to get the food and pay. After another minute or two the toast was done and I paid 9 dollars for the meal. Although the meal was expensive it was quite delicious. The toast was a thick cut of sourdough toast with a thick lather of fresh avocado mashed up into a chunky be spread with some olive oil drizzled over it. Then there was salt, pepper, and a third spice I couldnt quite put my finger on but it was tasty. Finally a hard boiled egg, thinly sliced, lay on top. The coffee was also delicious, a dark roast that was aromatic but very smooth. There are no espresso or espresso based drinks like lattes or cappuccinos, so beware, but they great coffee. The service was a bit slow, but because the atmosphere is relaxed, but not lazy. It allowed me to take a moment to relax myself as all the employees were working, but it lacked the chaos of a Starbucks which I appreciated. I sat outside, overlooking the Pacific ocean while I enjoyed my toast and coffee and reflected on how lucky I was to grow up in a place like this. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is an enjoyer of coffee. Although it may be a bit expensive to be a daily visit, I definitely plan on coming back during my infrequent visits back to Huntington Beach.

Just went to the soft opening,(Which everything was on the house) on the 1st floor at Pacific City close to Lemonade and Simmys. Now I have a reason to go to Pacific City and buy a coffee and get your 2 hour validation. Of course, the must get here is the Mint Mojito which is super light and refreshing. Since Im a big fan of coffee, I tried a dark roast. All the different strengths coffee are a blend. Only Mr. Philz knows the amount of blend, no workers know the origin or the beans. Jacobs Wonderbar, full bodied dark roast with a hearty smell and a nice balance of acidity. Highly recommend as one of the baristas girl recommend this for me. Now, it will be the coffee I will be getting the next time Im here. As for the pastries, we got to try a few. Everything here including the croissants is just the right size for one. Nothing here was overly sweet including almond croissants, cookies, triangular scones....goes great with your drink. After you order your drink, the barista will hail you down for your drinks when its ready. Make sure you tip them at the tip jar for their hard work when you are paying at the register. Welcome to Huntington Beach! (Thank goodness I didnt have to drive to Pasadena)

Great coffee and each cup is made to order so the coffee is super fresh!! There is a large selection so you can choose what you want, not what the store decides to server that day. About $1.25 to $1.50 per cup more expensive than Starbucks which is not a big deal for me as I will gladly pay more for a great cup of coffee. The missing star is because service is slow, it took 20 minutes for a cup of coffee the first time I went and the barista had to pour the cream (I am very picky about how much cream I want and always want to pour my own). Also, not a great environment to sit in but since this store is in the new Pacific City there are great places to sit outside and enjoy a view of the ocean. The second time I went I refused to wait 20 minutes so my daughter ordered off her Philz App and i went in 15 minutes when the App said the coffee would be ready. It was and I picked up from the counter and was in and out in less than 40 seconds. I will certainly go back!!

Expected to be blown away here and I was, yes, blown away by the crazy waste of time it was to sample that novelty coffee drink, that mint mojito thingy. 20min+ to get a pour-over with a sprig of mint? Really? Im a bit of a purist and the one really uncanny thing about my drink was how purely watery it tasted. Maybe the barrista was tired and needed a fix of her own but she sure as heck didnt infuse my drink with any semblance of coffee or caffeine for that matter. I brew a 32oz French Press of AMS or AMJ (those that are true aficionados know) every morning and that drink I got at Phils didnt have 1/64 the flavor of a single ounce. What a killer sad experience. I so wanted to be impressed here. So denied.

The location of the coffee shop is on the ground level of the newly opened Pacific City mall. Im very excited to see a high quality coffee shop finitely being introduced to the beach city. This is a coffee place for coffee lovers. But for novices or people just looking for a quick cup, this may not be your best choice. Individual brewed cups make for a spectacular cup of coffee. Baristas are patient and cheerful even when you arent sure what you want. If you want to try tasty coffee Id highly recommend you to take your time and enjoy the ☕️. Mint mojito iced coffee is their signature here.

Originally went to the one in Palo Alto, and the process is similar here. Order your drink(s) at the barista, and then over to the cashier to pay. A little weird, but the coffee is good, so its worth a try. Or barista was very nice and genuinely seemed to care we were happy. I wish I had her name to put on here as a recommendation. One star subtracted due to the wait time. Took about 10 mins to order, so allow ample time.

Colin prepared a sample of the Tantalizing Turkish for us. We didnt really like it, because the coffee seemed muddled, so he didnt charge us for it. We got the Mint Mojito instead... THEN he worked a little more on the Turkish (just added some sugar) and it was a lot more palatable; the flavor of the coffee was somehow enhanced. He let us take it, at no charge. Now THATS service.

Im just going to be upfront and make rhe bold claim yhay Philz is the best pour over coffee available in So Cal. While the large menu can be intimidating just look for the notes and see what you like. For beginners I recommend a medium or light blend as a darker blend might be too heavy. My personal favorites are Its Da Best and Dancing Water.
