Ive never had anything bad to say about this diner. Its always been there for me with a hot cup of coffee when Im hung over or with a plate of huevos rancheros after a long night of boozing in Hollywood. However, this morning, the place was packed beyond what Ive ever seen before. Every table was full and you can see that this began to untangle the usually cheery and congenial waitstaff. On this particular occassion, a dark haired server with hipster glasses and bad ironic tattoos pissed off her entire section. It took her almost 15 minutes to even take our drink order and bring us waters (which seems like forever when youre nursing a hangover). And then she forgot to bring my girlfriend her latte (which I totally get and which totally happens sometimes) but when we asked her about it, she was rude and made it seem like we were bothering her. After our food was brought out, we asked her for some mustard. You would have thought we asked her to crush mustard seeds and make us a bottle by hand. She blew off the request and proceeded to stand behind the counter with her arms folded, almost defiantly refusing to bring us our requested condiment. My girlfriend, at this point completely annoyed, walked over to grab the bottle herself. The waitress then slammed the mustard on the table and pushed it over to her without saying a word. At first I thought maybe we were thinking too much into it or that maybe we were being difficult with our requests, but when we looked around, everyone in her section was enraged. People were being totally ignored, waiting to even place an order for upwards of 20 minutes. One couple even sat waiting for her to come to their table, just to have a runner inform them that they were no longer serving food because of the lunch rush. They left in a huff just like a number of other tables. I never usually let someones tip suffer for their actions, but this direct form of borderline disdain for your own customers was too egregious. The food was amazing, my coffee was hot and delicious, the environment was eclectic and fun like always. However, on this occasion, this waitress created such a hostile and negative atmosphere, that I may never be back to one of my favorite local eateries. I emplore the management of this restaurant to evaluate their servers to ensure that one bad apple isnt ruining an otherwise great, kitschy diner that is adored by Hollywood resident and tourists alike.

The atmosphere of this place puts most other retro diners to shame. I personally love old 50s diners. But one must admit, most are pretty cliche. Im talking about the black & white checkered floors, the giant Elvis, a Betty Boop, lots of red, and modern jukebox. This place, however, sets itself apart. Its been around for a while. And it really shows. The decor looks like it hasnt been touched in decades. as a bit more of a 60s-70s feel to it, which I thoroughly enjoy. But enough about the decor, and lets get to the food already! I tried their breakfast, and it was a far cry from anything special. The eggs had some green peppers and other stuff I wasnt particularly a fan of. Almost like they were trying to be creative but didnt quite hit the mark...with me at least. The hashbrowns were a bit undercooked (even after I asked for a little crisp). The hot coco was made with water. To which I was informed about the difference between a "hot cocoa" and a "hot chocolate". Really? A hot cocoa is specifically made with water?? Hot chocolate...with milk? Is this common knowledge? I feel out of the loop here. I have to say, this is a great spot for late night hangouts in Hollywood. I am willing to give this place another shot. I have yet to try the rest of their menu. However, if the rest of their food is anything like the mediocre breakfast I had to endure, Im gunna have to pass on anything but a milkshake next time I agree to meet up here!

Whats not to love about this place? Aside from the impossible parking situation but thats just LA. Every once in a while I find myself in LA with a few friends and its always a late night and those last nights turn into spending a few hours here until dawn. Always. Thats just how I roll. Ive had a few of their crazy drink combos, the hot chai, and the breakfast. I love it all. The best thing to do is grab a booth. We made a mistake of spending a long night at a table and then we were all stiff the next day from sitting in chairs for a while. Service is awesome here. They understand its a place to chill out for meaningful conversation. They ask ahead of time when the bill should be sent, should it be split, and if well be ordering soon or later and the drinks get refilled a lot but without any hassle or effort. The food isnt very memorable but the drinks are really cool. Go here for the atmosphere and a great place to hang out late night in LA.

I love this place. Its a second home and the one place I can reliably bring friends who are visiting or just want to get together for lunch or coffee. Ive been coming here regularly since moving to the neighborhood in 1995, back when I was single. The staff has embraced my husband (our first date was here) and watched our children (12 and 7) grow since we first hauled them through the door in infant carriers. The place is never too busy for us not to be welcomed with huge smiles and open arms. I have a standing lunch date with a friend every week for the Thursdays-only fried chicken special. Unbelievable. Im Southern, and its one of the best fried chicken recipes Ive ever tasted. All breakfast entrees are sterling. But the KILLER is their waffle brownie (exactly what it sounds like: brownie batter poured into a waffle iron) topped with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with warm chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Best dessert ever invented. A home run.

Im so disappointed. You keep letting me down, Yelp! Im starting to lose hope in ever finding a good late-night spot for food in Los Angeles. My latest disappointment is the overhyped, underwhelming to the supreme, that is the 101 Coffee Shop. The service here is spotty and slow, and the food is atrocious. The omelette I ordered tasted worse than something you could get as a frozen meal from the grocery store, the toast was burnt, and the cappuccino wasnt even hot. In a city with so many options for coffees, it also stood out just how average it tasted. Additionally, the let a guy into the restaurant with his dog, which affected my allergies. And no, it wasnt a service dog. Health hazard. This tourist trap is an overhyped piece of garbage. Dont go.

Ive never experienced a diner environment like I did today. A nostalgic feeling hit me as soon as I walked in the door. Located in a Hollywood area hotel right off the 101 freeway, this small diner has everything you want from a old-school coffee shop. A nice mom-and-pop shop look and feel to it and a clean and well lit area. Sat at the bar to eat because all the booths were full, but Im glad we did. Some of the best tuna melt Ive had in a long time. Wanted to try the chili, but had no room for it. :/ By far the best part of my dinning experience there was the Cherry Coke. I could have that all day. Will definitely be returning to try some of the chili and another glass of that amazing Cherry Coke.
