Writing this review is difficult because I hate to offend the artist working here especially under the circumstances in which I was able to receive my tattoo in a contest. My first time at this shop I got a tattoo from Jonathan and more recently I won a tattoo contest and was able to receive a tattoo from Jhon. The tattoo I received from jonathan was to small and simple for me to fairly judge. The second tattoo I recieved from Jhon was a much more complicated and extravagent design. He did a good job, I like how it turned out. Morning Star is the only place Ive gotten tattoos so I dont have much to compare to but I think that I can fairly say that Jhon is a good artist. He has a strong accent and is difficult to understand often so yo have to be careful to make sure you understand him so you are getting what you want but he is good. On the other hand this tattoo shop does have its negative. They have concern level of lack of professionalism. To start with more recently with Jhon. I had a lot of trouble with him getting the sketch done. The receptionist said that if I sent him pics he could start a sketch for me and when he asked me to come in to look at it he brought me a blank piece paper, suffice to say he didnt start out on the right foot. Furthermore he said he would send me pictures of my sketch on a certain and I did not receive them until at least a day or two after he said he would send them. Additionally, a issue I had with both the artist is that they try to sway you away from what you want in your design to what they want. Or they will be rather blunt and just say they cant do that because it wont look good. I understand that they are professionals and know what will look good and thats fine and dandy but they are not the ones who have to live with the tattoo for life. I understand giving advise on what might look better but they seem to cross the line on telling you what you should have tattooed on your body. Those two attributes that I encountered here I found extremely unprofessional. The most professional person there was the receptionist. She was very kind and helpful and its too bad she isnt one of the artist because it seems like she would know how to advise clients about their tattoo in a more professional and respectful way. Basically this is the rundown on Morning Star: the receptionist is great, as far as I know the artist do good work, and the artist need to work on being more professional with clients.

Me and two of my friends went in for tattoos. One of my friends had one done previously from John and her husband as well. I liked their tattoos, so I agreed to go. The night before I had hand drawn what I wanted, exactly what I wanted. John spent about 45 minutes re-drawing mine up. There were lines added, but I just thought that was for a reference of space for my finger, because I was very explicit about how I wanted my tat. He tattooed those lines anyway, which I did not want. My tattoo looks nothing like what I drew, and its on my finger. Im not a dramatic person at all, but once I was able to look down I wanted to cry. (The way he was tattooing me I couldnt see my finger because it was rolled off of the armrest facing down.) John is a nice man, but he smokes pot in his shop, which I didnt know until later. Im so bummed... I will not be going back. Hopefully I can find someone to fix it. (The only reason I gave 2 stars is because he was polite.)

I went in for their Friday the 13th sale, which was amazing. Ive had bad experiences with discount tattooing before so I was sure to research Johnathan before going in. With his many years of experience I was reassured and bought 2.5 hours of tattooing. My entire arm has a spiral of perfectly straight molecular structures that we allowed extra time for, but only took an hour! I am incredibly happy with the result and was ecstatic that I could come back and have an extra hour and a half of work done. My first visit there I had my friend, who is a fully licensed nurse, sit with me. She as well has only good things to say about the cleanliness of his practice. Absolutely would return/recommend.

I do not get out much and have severe anxiety but wanted to get a daith piercing. Go here and ask for Austin. Nicest person I have met in a long time and very respectful. I am transgender and he was extremely respectful when asking what pronouns I preferred. There is no way I am going any where but here not just because they show their customers such good care but also because the piercing was perfect and he told me exactly what to expect. UPDATE: Went back to have my septum pierced and must say that no one but Austin gets to pierce me ever again. He nearly ran to get me water and then fanned me with no complaint. Truly one of the most respectful/laid back people I have ever met.

Jhon is a good dude. Brought in a massive piece for him to do and he did it 5 hours straight thru. Had three other shops complaining it would take too long for one session. I did not want to get a half tattoo. Would be like getting half a haircut. I did my shopping and Jhon was the best price and seemed the most experienced. So I gave him a shot. I am glad I did! Also, did the art the same day as a walk in and performed the work the very next day. Nothing but professional. Great service and pricing. Jhon will be seeing me a lot more. As well as anyone I can refer.

Went in here a few months ago to talk to someone about getting my first tattoo done. The guy there was extremely rude. Didnt give me the time of day and just handed me a card instead of discussing what kind of tattoo I wanted done (the place was empty so it wasnt like they were busy). Even my friend who I was with said the guy was an ass hole and she wouldnt get a tattoo done there. Two tattoos later and Im glad I didnt let them tattoo me. I dont care how good you think you are if youre rude I dont want to go to your shop.

This place is great, Ive had many tattoos here over the course of about 6 years now. I was suprised by there low google rating, and realized all the bad reviews were by people who didnt even get work done... How can you rate a tattoo artist without getting tattood by them? Doesnt make sense to me. Im an unbias customer whos had tattoos from many different artist can honestly say Jon might be the best tattoo artist in Vancouver

Although it was Friday the 13 and everyone wants to get piercings and tattoos, its a little dramatic that it took and hour to get through 4 people with two artist in the back. Dont like the service and you have to pay up front for a wait time. They dont tell you how long the wait time is, they just say "a while". Wont refund money, only gives certificates.
