Such a shame. A few months ago, I took my bike here to get serviced after a previous place had neglected to check the gear shifting, tire valve seating and break wear properly. They did a great job - all was well for the last couple of months or so. A few weeks ago, I picked up a multitude of thorns from a ride. Not wanting to deal with changing the tires, tubes etc myself - was feeling lazy, and have been there, done that in terms of bike servicing and road repairs over the last 20 years or so. So I took it in to Reno Cycling & Fitness. Sure enough, they were busy, but friendly enough - and took my bike to remove the thorns. The mechanic mentioned something about having problems getting the tire back on and the valve to seat properly in the rear wheel - it was vague, and not specific. The need for a new tire was never specifically mentioned. So. I wheeled my bike out to the parking lot, noticed that the valve collars and dust caps were missing - no big deal, got those, then proceeded to to load my bike into my truck. I then drove to Washoe in order to do a couple of hours riding. I unloaded the bike, started riding, and immediately noticed a bumping on the back wheel. I stopped, looked, and noticed the tire was bulging at BOTH sides on the rear where the tire was not bedded correctly. Another bicyclist stopped to assist me in checking the whole back wheel out - we let out air, but the bulge did not go. So I abandoned my ride, and went back to the shop. I was, at this point, very angry about being given back a bike that, in my opinion, was not safe to ride and felt lucky that the whole thing had not burst on me. I admit to being none too calm when I walked into the shop and was demanding that someone fix the problem. The lady there who dealt with me initially at least tried to calm things down and offered my money back. I refused, asking them to fix the problem. This is when a big guy, whom I guess is the owner / manager, told me that it was because the tire was probably bad and inferred that it got that way once I left the store i.e once I started riding it. He said they mentioned to me that the mechanic had problems getting the tire back on and the valve seated and that the tire was probably bad. I asked how come they let me out of the store knowing that the tire might be bad after all the problems they had getting it back on and didnt suggest I get a new one. I got no straight answer. The big guy proceeded to talk over me, not listen, tell me how he has been doing this for longer than me - i.e 40 years. Without any further discussion,he got my money back in cash, opened my saddle bad without my permission and stuffed the cash back in there in a most unceremonious fashion. I took that as a get out of my store hint and did just that!!! All in all, very disappointing service. I ended up going to Great Basin Cycles who checked things out, suggested I needed a new tire, switched out the tire and gave me great service. Never going back to this place again.

My wife and I were looking for new bikes, so we looked up local retailers on Google. We picked 3 near us and then went to lunch. After lunch we accidentally ran across Reno Cycling and Fitness (not one of the 3) and, wow, were we glad we did. We were helped by Daniel Jimenez, who spent a fair amount of time educating us about the various kinds of bikes available. We told him a little about how we would use the bikes and he told us about a kind of bike we did not even know existed - its called a "comfort bike." It has a bigger than usual seat, 21 gears, tires between those of a mountain bike and those of a road bike, and is quite inexpensive (we paid $360 each for two of them). We tried out a few bikes in the parking lot and picked two based on our comfort level and Daniels observations of how we were riding them. After we chose the bikes, he adjusted them for maximum comfort, spruced them up a little for us, upgraded the bikes inner tubes, put some anti-flat slime in the tubes, and we were on our way. Our total cost for the two bikes, after adding high-quality helmets, a few other accessories and tax, was about $1,000, well below the $1,500 I expected to pay for one bike. The experience we had at Reno Cycling and Fitness was outstanding and, after riding the bikes for a few days, I have to say we were definitely led to the right bikes for us. What a refreshing experience! We would recommend this company to anyone who is considering buying new bikes. Ask for Daniel!

Edit in 2016: I have continued to do business here and still have the same sentiments. The only thing that has changed is that I have now purchased several bikes from RC&F for family and myself and continue to make this my first stop for all things bicycle. 2010: I have not purchased a bike through Reno Cycling & Fitness (yet) but I have taken two bikes in for service and received a pro fitting on one of them. They have consistently impressed me with their high level of customer service and satisfaction. All promised work was always done on time (or early) at reasonable prices. I have been most impressed with their mechanic service on both my mid and high end bikes. Their selection of bikes, equipment, and clothing is nice and their shop very open and friendly. I feel that these folks would gladly do what they could to make your cycling experience better. Highly recommend!

I have purchased two bikes here and both experiences have been great. I shopped around at other places that sell nice bikes like Trek and found the service people mostly friendly but no where near as knowledgeable. They know their product and they stand by what they sell. You will pay a little more than a department store bike but you will get a better bike and better service. Try taking you bike back to walmart for a tune up. Ask for Shawn he was very helpful setting me up with a mountain bike. I am a novice and he treated me with respect, no condescension.

We cycled around Tahoe for a week on our tandem and were heading to the Reno airport with a broken crank that prevented us from getting our bike in its case. We found the shop on the Internet and stopped in right before our flight. Randy the owner dropped what he was doing to help us with our Broken crank. In 15 minutes we were on our way with our bike in its case. Thanks for saving us. Great shop with huge selection of accessories and bikes. We highly recommend the shop for all of you biking needs.

Ended a cross California road ride in Reno today and needed to box up my bike for a flight back east. The lady I spoke with on the phone was pleasant and polite. When I got to the shop, the fellas that I spoke with were great. They gave me a bike box and packing materials and tools to use out back to pack the bike myself because I was in a hurry. They were very helpful and friendly. Im very appreciative of your shop! Thanks for being cool and easy to work with.
