I like the variety of items available in this store and the pleasant staff, but the owners need to monitor their produce for freshness (scallions were horrible yesterday), clean up the bulk olives area (oily lids and handles), straighten their shelves, and make SURE their check-out clerks bag everything AND place ALL bags in customer hands or cart. Tomorrow I will have to return to the store, two days after a shopping trip, from a residence 25 miles away, and with an injured knee, to collect items left behind the counter BY THE CLERK. The main problems here are that 1) the store is insufficiently staffed, and 2) the front counter, at the 2nd street location, is junked up with everything under the sun and has little work space as a result--and, in fact, very little space for customers to place the items they want to purchase. Both of these problems come from poor management.

Was a regular and patronized this location for the last two years until I was approached and given a snarky speech about my backpack and how people steal all the time and asked to leave my brand new laptop and camera inside sitting on the floor (no lockers or anything) while I shopped. This has never happened before. The woman had a really stuck up attitude about it. Its a nice store and all, but Ill just get my tea at Bloomingfoods from now on. Would have given 3 stars despite being insulted, but sometimes their food is old and dusty like its been sitting there too long.

Ive shopped at Sahara Mart frequently since I moved to town a year ago, but I dont plan on continuing. In the past year Ive gotten spoiled food from them THREE times. Twice their fresh chicken was spoiled to the point of putrid sourness, and once when I took it back and informed the clerk that the food was inedible, she PUT IT BACK ON THE SHELF!!! Then today I bought yogurt from them, opened it up and it was GREEN! So much for Sahara Mart, maybe if they figure out how to stop selling rotting food Ill return. Congratulations for giving more business the local Co-Op.

The name gives enough information to make an educated guess on what to expect. Its antiquated underneath all of the modernization, the dozens of herbs and roots in labeled plastic tins and the weary coffee dispensers. You will probably find what you want, though not instantly, and many other things along the way. I cant ask for anything more. The selection is varied, though if youre looking for a specific brand it can be a toss up. The prices are surprisingly moderate, and theres few things I love as much as a 50% off sticker.

For a small-town organic market, this place is awesome. I love that they feature a ton of local products for prices equal or even less than organic foods at places like Kroger. They have a fabulous selection of hard-to-find spices, loose-leaf teas, and fresh produce. I have, unfortunately, seen some produce that was 2-4 days past its prime still on the shelves. With that said, this market is a godsend to those of us who have vowed to mostly include local, organic foods in our diets.

This store has a great selection of spices, nuts, grains, teas, organic foods and products. Market of diversified cultural products. Small selection of freshly prepared sandwiches, salads, and desserts. Worth going out of the way for. Knowledgeable staff. Friendly and helpful. Pricing is good. Products excellent. Expanding a new wine room.

Im not sure how to respond to the negative things said here...unfortunate things happen in all food service situations from time to time...especially in one that deals in such FRESH product. This store has it all (both stores)...great variety, great people. Be thankful Bloomington; Sahara Mart is awesome!

This is one of my favorite places in Bloomington, Indiana and one of the best markets Ive been to ever. The have a fantastic variety of food and beverages. I discover new things to try every time I visit the store. I wish there was a Sahara Mart in Chapel Hill, NC. Im going to miss this place when I leave.

Almost all of the the non or thinly packaged items (vegetables, fruits, bread, sometimes cheese) that i have purchased actually taste like the smell of the store.... has anyone else noticed this? also, there have been muliple times where i have purchased rotting items (raspberries, cheese).

Its true that they dont check expiration dates very well. We are always careful when we buy something at Sahara Mart. Personally, I find Sahara Mart slightly more expensive than Bloomingfoods. However, they appear to have the best selection of vitamins, minerals and herbs in town.

A mix of an international market with a small whole foods selection, Sahara Mart is one of my favorite stores in Bloomington to try new and interesting things. The quality is a little bit less than Bloomingfoods (Not to say its poor quality), but the prices are much better.

I love to browse this through the aisles of this store. There are so many fascinating things that they import from around the world. Prices are a little high, but considering what you are getting thats to be expected. Try something new!

We purchased some organic rice from the bulk section. We found a handful of maggots in the process of cooking it. I know that business is slow but this is not acceptable. We will stick with Bloomingfoods.

Absolutely adore this place! They sell my brand of beer here for WAY cheaper than any other of the big liquor stores. They also take the time to get to know their regulars.

We love their coffee and beer selection. Not the best grocery store in town but also had most of what we need, its locally owned, and has been around for years.

Best beer and wine selection in town. This place is comparable to Bfoods in price but way better for those who want healthy food minus the elitist attitude.

Amazing wine selection, best selection of coffee in town, all with a crunchy welcoming feel. Minus one star for not staying on top of the produce.

Some things are outrageously pricey, but they have all the herbs and spices you could dream of.
