Today 09/28/16 I located the webpage for this establishment. Having never know a place like this existed in Houston, I called them to see if someone could help me out and explain how their store worked and what not. A male answered the phone, while trying to ask for information the male so rudely said "maam i am very busy" and hung up the phone on me. I called back and asked to speak with a manager at which time the same male who had answer the first time answered. I asked to speak with a manager and he states "Speaking!" I said wonderful sir what if your name he said "Mike Malloy and what is yours?" At this point I no longer wished to have any further interactions with this very rude man, I asked to speak with the owner and states "unless you are so wonderfully that as well." Then at this point Mike began yelling at me and said "yeah well you just burned your bridges and Im not talking to you anymore youre so f****** rude!" And hung up on me again. I was very elated to find such a place so close to home only to have such a negative interaction. I will never shop here now and I will be making a complaint with the owner.

I first heard about House of Coffee Beans on NPR while driving to work one day. After a few weeks my curiosity got the best of me. I walked to their quaint little shop and could tell they meant business. The back wall is floor to ceiling with an assort of their blends, single origins and roasts. The side walls are stocked with an assortment of brewing equipment: Chemex, V-60s grinders, etc. The woman who helped me instantly asked if I wanted to sample what they were brewing that day (of course I did). I ended up leaving with a Guatemala Antigua that was very good and you can be sure that Ill be back.

Good coffee and great service. Very nice little shop and good place to buy whole bean. Was very excited to see that I could buy chicory by the pound here as well. Other than a trip to Louisiana, that is a hard find. Great loose tea selection. Only reason they got four stars instead of five is because they only have the featured coffees brewed to drink instead of any off the menu. The coffee I had that day was great, just would not be what I would have ordered if I had a choice. Overall, great experience.

I bought 6oz of the French roast whole bean coffee, but it tasted stale and unflavorful. I thought it was just this particular bag, so I brought it back to the store to exchange it for beans that had been more freshly roasted, but I was told flatly that "Everythings pretty fresh, especially the French roast." Its not bad coffee, but its on the poorer side of good. The customer service was fairly poor though. No offer to smell the coffee or exchange it just in case. I will not be back.

House of Coffee Beans has good coffee, however, there is no roasting date marked on the bag. I have to agree with another reviewer at this site. There is no way to tell if coffee youre purchasing is freshly roasted. The bag I got (Mexican Altura) was not fresh. I could taste the good quality of the bean and roast, but the fresh taste was missing. I will return only if I cannot get better coffee elsewhere in the Houston area.

My favorite coffee shop in Houston! Run by the cutest owners who are both knowledgeable and passionate about their coffee. Quaint little shop with a variety of coffee and tea making equipment and accessories. Excellent selection of high quality beans, expertly roasted, and a selection of excellent teas as well. Highly recommended!

Marvelous fresh coffee beans, ground to clients specification or whole beans. I like Charlies Blend for unflavored coffee, & Creme Brulee & Amaretto for flavored beans, but you really cannot go wrong here. Fantastically helpful & knowledgeable staff, especially Robin & the owners Mike & Roger!

This is one of my favorite stops to make every week! If you love your taste buds, do them a favor and stop by House of Coffee Beans and treat them to one of their daily blends, and then pick yourself up a few pounds of fresh beans to take with you. You wont regret it!

Been getting beans here for years, a lot to choose from but they give good recommendations - Monsooned Malabar and India Espresso are personal favorites. Good flavors too if thats what you like - I occasionally use the coconut cream for cold-brew.

The aroma upon entering is worth the visit! The proprietors are very knowledgeable and if you want to buy Fair Trade, know that these folks deal directly with many farmers. They will blend and grind to your specifications. Very nice folks.

Took time to describe ingredients of the different blends and gave a few recommendations. Every 11th pound is free so you essentially get a 9% discount if youre a regular.

Offering a huge selection of roasts, this great little shop has been around for forty years. Right next to an excellent book store, what more could one ask for?
