Upon entrance, a sign states that guests should sit and wait to be served. My friend and I sat down and waited for at least 30 minutes before realizing that staff would not attend to us. We watched as waiters took care of all the other guests except us. We even made eye contact with several of the workers there in order to get attention, but to no avail. The only way we finally got served was because I got up and asked for some menus. The waitress did not even reply or look up at me as she shoved four menus my way. After taking to twitter and sharing the horrific ordeal with others, two other POC confided that they also experienced something similar at the cafe. It seems to me that spider house cafe only cares about their customers as long as they are white. I had always wanted to visit the cafe prior to this incident, but i am glad that I did not support a business that blatantly disregards POC. Normally, I am quick to understand that it was a busy Friday night. However, several workers made time to be chummy with one of their friends sitting right beside us! It should not be this difficult to order food at a popular cafe. I am obliged to give a one star review because you cannot post a review without adding at least one star.

Worst place in Austin!!! My wife and I had an unpleasant experience at Spider Bar tonight We went to Spider to celebrate our anniversary. We sat down at the table and the waitresses just ignored us. After a while I called one of the waitresses and she told me to wait. So, we waited again and I looked at that waitress from a distance, I saw that she was looking at us, and ignoring, she did it on purpose. we didn’t understand what was the reason for that shameful behavior. We are not locals, we just moved to Austin a few months ago, I hope this is not a common welcome for visitors. Finally, I went to the bar to talk with the manager to complain, the manager wasn’t there so I talked with the bartender that wasn’t so impressed. He told me to go back to my sit and wait for service. We continued to wait for service but nothing, we decided to leave the place not before I told that waitress that the service and her behavior are horrible. She yelled at me and told me that I am rude, we were in shock we didn’t expect this. We headed back home shamed. In conclusion, stay away from Spider Bar, spend your money in a place that respects its customers

The last review I read was from a local and he described SpiderHouse as one of his favorite things about living in Austin and that there isnt a lot of other places like it elsewhere. I couldnt agree more! Spider House Cafe is super duper eclectic and the atmosphere is very chill depending when you go Im sure but Ive been for breakfast or lunch never dinner although Ive heard its fun anytime of day. Lots of good photo opportunities at this cafe and really eclectic decor that is very vintage and lots of neat antiques. It is close by to lots of great shopping on Guadeloupe street so if you are visiting make sure you park and walk around that area! Good coffee and our waitress was super friendly she recommended Austin local only spots for us to check out somewhat out of the city when she knew we were visiting so that was much appreciated! Very friendly and good coffee as well as food. We went more for the atmosphere and from recommendations but they had really good drinks and appetizers and just depending what type of food you eat in general youll be in good hands!

Spider House is a great off-6th show venue with a decent patio. Ive caught a few good shows there, most notably Mother Falcon, inside what they call the Ballroom. Its a small venue, fits around 200 seated, maybe 300 packed like sardines? This means that most of the bands that come through are going to be of the underground variety. If youre looking to up your hipster cred, pay attention to the Spider Houses schedule: theyll bring in a lot of bands that you can listen to before they get big. And a lot of bands that will never get big. Its also a great spot to watch for SXSW day parties. They fit 4 stages into the patio and buildings and will usually have something worth watching on one of those stages. Spider House does have the bar, but its also a fairly popular place for UT students, being not too far off campus. Shows here are generally all-ages and the cafe part certainly is. Spider House scores points for having Live Oak Hefeweissen on tap. Ive never eaten their food, though (only at the trailer they have parked outside), so I cannot comment on that.

I know, I know-- the service is slow, everyone is a stoner, etc. I dont care. I LOVE SPIDERHOUSE. I LOVE IT SO MUCH IT CAN ONLY BE EXPRESSED IN ALL CAPS. Ahem. Anyway. Ive been frequenting Spider as a study-spot since college and truly fell in love with it one night during a rainstorm that could have doubled as a soulful montage from an indie romance movie. The food used to be all veg fare, but now there is more variety for the carnivorous among us. The coffee drinks are good, strong and decently priced. The cocktails are, however, hit and miss. $5 Mexican Martinis have treated me well. The sangria hasnt, and when we informed our waitress that it was nigh undrinkable, she shrugged her shoulders at us instead of offering us something else or a refund. But if you want a place to linger when the weather is nice and not know if some band will randomly accost your ears with sound or your waitperson will ignore you for half-hour periods at a time, then come here. It is beautiful.

First time here. Came for a "hot chocolate date". Ended up having a concoction that consisted of vanilla vodka, amaretto, and hit chocolate which was delicious! Gorgeous and spacious patio, though too cold to sit out and enjoy it (they do have a fire pit, but the logs were burning out and the barista couldnt tell us when they would put new logs in). Didnt quite get the layout of the place...wasnt really packed, but inside seating seemed scarce. Parking lot was very limited and street parking was at a premium (though I lucked out finding a 2hr spot, I cant Maine being able to find a space when this place is in full swing!). They have a food trailer, but it was not open tonight. From the patio it looked like there is also a coffee joint and tatt place, but will have to comeback to investigate further when I am not on a date and have the mental capacity to process. Cool place...I cant believe I have lived in ATX 3yrs and this was my first time here!?

Ive been returning to Spider House on and off for a couple years because I do like the atmosphere, which is a little loud but not too crazy to relax with some friends. Its an artsy kind of place that has some interesting specialty drinks, such as their Mojito, but the staff is often incredibly rude. Not always, of course, but Ive had negative experiences with them more than just a couple times. I literally had a bartender treat me as if I was an idiot because I asked if they had a particular drink that they dont make. On other occasions the service is incredibly slow, even when ordering something as innocuous as a bottle of beer. (Which is usually what I end up getting, the coffee is not my taste.) Overall, it has some neat DJ nights and whatnot... but its the kind of place you return to only because you like the atmosphere, location, and free wifi, rather than the service or the food.
