First off, parking is iffy. Theres an alley beside coffee shop with a gravel drive. Tight turn, but if you can work your way in there, you can park there (I think free) for a few mins or hrs. Anyway, turn the corner and then find the beautiful building you see in all the pics. The shop is on the smaller side, and at the counter you will be greeted by a few people running the show. I ordered my wife the iced (light ice) lavender latè (it DOES have coffee in it) and I ordered the black coffee that they have in season. Taz... something. The guy at the counter said it was his favorite right now. Their black coffee is pour over so it has no bitterness. The guy whispered the wifi code to me like it was the secret of the century and was extremely helpful when ordering. A few mins later, out comes the latè and the coffee. The latè is not overly sweet, perfectly slight lavender flavor, but slightly too milky.. but the black coffee. The only way I can sum it up is

The one sentence review: the only place in Charleston proper that takes coffee seriously (Collective is in Mt. Pleasant). This is where you want to go if you are interested in: people sourcing interesting single origin coffees (and not over-roasting them), pulling consistent shots, and providing the care needed to serve quality espresso drinks. This is not a Starbucks knockoff (thank goodness), so do not form your expectations as such. The level of pretension is low, the coffee is great, and they serve tasty pastries too. In all, this place would hold its own in other towns Ive lived in with much more active (and demanding) coffee cultures. It can get a little crowded, but usually if you wait a few moments you can find a place to sit. Perhaps they need another location or two on the peninsula or in West Ashley.

Nice service - but used to coffee in Italy, Germany, Austria, France, I must say that their cappuccino is very strange! It even made my stomach upset - which normally only happens with normal coffee that didnt get real espresso roast (which makes a big change in the acidity) Also the taste is really strange - kind of burnt instead of roasted flavors, not high-level level at all...... Therefore, it might be that they do fancy stuff - but their cappuccino (at 4 USD including tax, for a small cup) really has no good quality. Disappointed!

Good coffee in a nice space. This was our first visit and we were really impressed to see that they roast their own beans and have a pour-over bar. Craft coffee cred! They only had new world coffees and I really prefer Africans but thats just a matter of personal preference. The pour-overs were well done - nicely extracted and flavorful. We also tried a couple of their espresso drinks which were quite tasty. Prices are reasonable and the space, though small, was lovely, clean, and minimal. Id be very happy to return.

Great location, bright, clean, friendly, I had a great Guatemalan pour over and Kate had an almond milk cappuccino. The music is very nice, good volume and blend. Our only nit was that Kates cappuccino was served in a to-go cup after specifically asking for a for-here cup, its minor but we shared a New Years resolution to not use disposable cups for our coffee, today is NYE so it was a bummer. We each made it through an entire year with less than ten disposable cups, and most were result of similar mistakes.

I go here every time Im in Charleston. One day I stopped in here 3 times...in the same day, yes. I like the people who run the place. They focus on QUALITY, no matter HOW BUSY they get. They dont judge you for coming in three times in a day. The baked goods they source are ballz-mazing. I have a hard time picking one out to eat. My only complaint is that there is not much room for sitting, but to that point, grab a cup of coffee and walk around beautiful Charleston! Theyre in a great location.

They sell coffee and pastries, like any coffee shop.....but this is a special coffee shop because they brew special coffee and they serve special pastries in a special room for special people. It is not a Starbucks. The coffee is good and each cup is individually brewed just for you. Of course this means that youre going to have to wait a few minutes. Its not a Starbucks. Everyone is cool. Cooler than you are. Dont even think youre this cool.

Stopped in on a Friday afternoon after a day of walking around the city. Great cozy and inviting little cafe. Had their cold brew, which was great. Picked up some of their beans, which were very fresh and they had a nice selection to choose from. Too often I find roasters that not only have a tiny selection, but their own beans are more than a week off the roast date. Nice little break from a busy day.

Definitely the coffee shop to go to in Charleston. We went twice over three days and loved it. Great shop, great coffee, and nice staff. Couldnt believe its only about a year old! The brown sugar lattes and complimentary cucumber water were both very good. I would definitely frequent this place if I were from Charleston.

Black Tap Coffee has amazing coffee. They have a very modern decor and checkout is easily handled with the silicon valley style IPad checkout. The big knock I have on this place is that they are being driven by the uptight college kids from downtown. They have majorly over priced coffee. The service is great however.

Like most things preferance plays a big role in your opinion. The cappuccino was excellent. Cold brew was light(watery) for me and my wife(heavyweight roast). Single shot espresso of Tirra Natural is a good choice but not great without steamed milk. Great spot to grab local roasted beans that were recently roasted.

It was my first time visiting this cafe today and the baristas were very friendly and personable. The brown sugar latte and banana Nutella turnover were great selections for my day of walking around Charleston. Thanks guys! I cant wait to return to try the chai and lavender lattes!

Coming from a small town that has a phenomenal artisan coffee house and roaster, I must say Black Tap Coffee is a hidden gem in Charleston. The coffee is excellent and staff are incredibly knowledgable. Awesome atmosphere and spectacular service make this place a must visit.

Snooty environment makes for not an inviting place Id want to go often. Only offer one size of drink. However, their drinks are good! Brown sugar latte on par. Best part, is the odd construction crew a few streets over. Will go back for the construction.

I make it a point to visit the best micro roasteries in each city I visit, and Black Tap is hands down the best in Charleston. The parking situation is lousy and there is minimal space, but the coffee is well worth it. As a coffee snob, I highly recommend.

We were in Charleston for the solar eclipse this week. We found this little coffee shop by total accident. It was incredible. I have to say it was the best quiche I have ever had. The coffee was great. We were only there two days but we went both days.

Pretty good coffee but nothing to get really excited about. On the pricy side for the size you get, also there is only one size. Not a place to try to get any work done at, it was extremely loud and and I found one outlet amongst all of the tables.
