I think its great that theyre open 24 hours, and they do have a great beer and wine selection, but everything is pricey. Even the soda fountain is pricey. They dont seem to do anything about the transients milling about, even when one was cussing up a storm one morning. Rather disappointing. I prefer not to breathe smoke while walking in. But thats just me. The can return is straight back and to the left rear corner of the store. Pretty decent maintained machines here. They do have some tasty treats in the bakery, but the deli is average. Safeway has much better jojos. I can always look forward to going in and hearing the gals talk bad about one another, in full earshot of the customers. *Google, by altering or removing this review, you agree to compensate me a $150 Fred Meyer gift card, you know, a much better grocery store.

I like JC Market because they offer local products. Short of buying straight from the docks, JCs is the best bet to get crab, clams, cod, etc. (For instance, we live in a fishing town, but if you buy crab, shrimp, etc at one of the other chain grocers in town, its almost always frozen and from other countries.) Local, fresh meat and vegetables are in the mix too. JCs is part of franchise type chain, so its locally owned. The store feels a bit mom & pop-ish, reminiscent of grocery stores before they all went mega-box. The fixtures, decor, etc arent the newest, but its a clean, clean store. There is definite pride of ownership reflected in the upkeep of the store and attitude of employees. The trade off is that there isnt space to offer all the brands / products available from the bigger stores.

"Jim" greeted me, warmly, the moment I walked thru the door. He made my visit better than most any other place like it, over ever been in before. I think he said he was pretty new to the store/job. I thought he was a Manager by how well he treated my family & I. His customer service was beyond "exceptional", and that goes a long way w/me; especially in this day & age, when it seems to be a forgotten tradition. "Thanks, Jim!" For making my visit to your store such a positive experience!

Pretty decent selection, they carry the basic stuff anyways (if youre looking for some exotic Asian spice better go somewhere else). They always seems to have markdowns on meats and produce which is awesome for me--I buy this at a discount and cook it that very night which saves me $$ :) They have a walk in beer cooler with a decent beer selection--most of them local beers. And theyre open 24 hours.

While you may pay more than you pay at the competition, you gain in quality. Their prime steaks are unparalleled in quality, and their cakes (get the one with ganache) are super good. Reasonable in price for the baked goods.

This is the only store that is open 24 hours. There is a Deli and a Bakery. JC Thriftway also offer a wide variety of smoked meats. Available only at the Newport JC Thriftway.
