I had the misfortune of going to the Book Revue yesterday for a book signing. The signing was to begin at 5, and I arrived at 430. The line was two blocks long, I had no issue waiting. Roughly two hours later a staff member came around and told us who were waiting on line that there were a thousand books at the start, there were 200 left, and "a significant amount of people" ahead of us (I would later find out they were selling 3 and 4 to a person which is grossly unfair). I continued to wait on the line, occasionally trying to get a staff member to tell me what was going on. Depending on who I talked to I heard "The author was leaving after the books were signed" or "The authors were staying" and "The authors would sign anything you had" to "They would sign any book in the store". Some staff would let you in the store to browse while others acted as bouncers. Once I got inside after 3.5 hours of being out in the cold most of the time, there was no one giving directions on what to do from there. When I asked a staff member they said I had to buy one of the authors older titles, receive a letter on a piece of paper, then they would call my letter. I asked what letter they were on and which l would receive. The author was currently signing the Js and they offered me a U (the 10th and 21st letter of the alphabet). When I asked the staff member if I would have to wait another 3.5 hours he said probably not as many people would likely leave. At that point, I left. This store was the most poorly run bookstore I have ever been to, and I have been to other well-run, large-scale book signings. Communication from the author to the people on the line was terrible and their ridiculous letter system was overly-bureaucratic. As an aside, the staff have nothing identifying them as staff whether it be a name-tag or shirt so trying to find one is like finding a needle in a haystack.

I seriously think the bad reviews are from either authors whose homebrewed tome was rejected by the store or shoppers a little confused as to exactly which bookstore they had their awful experience. I arrived late to a signing by Yankees great Mickey Rivers helping promote a book by former batboy Ray Negron. Before I could even ask, a staffer handed me a copy to get signed and whisked me upstairs: "Youll miss the signing! Just pay for it later." As it turned out, by then pretty much everyone but the signers & their drivers had left -- so I got to chat w/Mickey and Ray for a good twenty minutes, something that mightve cost about $300 at a ticketed meet n greet! Filled with nostalgic bliss, I had gotten to my car when I realized I hadnt paid for the book! Going back, I sheepishly squared my account, goodnaturedly joking with the cashier about the FBI already having me on a list. THATs the bookstore were talking about here, and THATs the reason this place is always the next stop for authors after whatever Manhattan venue theyve finished.

This is my absolute favorite place in Huntington! The Book Revue is probably one of the only truly authentic bookstores remaining and its special because it just has books, no gadgets or electronics, but simply just books to browse! I really sincerely hope that the Book Revue remains open for many years to come, despite the surge of the internet and Nooks and other online reading devices; Some of us still love the feel of a real bound book in our hands. The staff is also super helpful and the recommended shelf is definitely worth a browse.

Never mind about the whining peon talking about his experience at a signing....this is easily the best bookstore on Long Island, corporate or independent. The selection is amazing and the discount books feature some of the best classic authors and up-and-coming new writers. I ask you where you can find a Hemingway or a Whitman for only five dollars. No where. So if you are in the Huntington area, take a peek at this amazing book store.

This is one of the last few independent bookstores, and its fantastic. I dont know why the other reviews on here are such downers. They have tons of discounted books, and beautiful building reminiscent of old-time bookshops, and lots of booksignings, events, readings, etc. All in all, this is a fabulous place to spend an afternoon just browsing, taking in the smell of freshly printed books.

There are so few small bookstores these days, esp in the suburbs, this place is a gem. The place is really big, and if they dont have what ur looking for, theyre happy to order it. There is a lot of dust following around the store, and my husbands skin is so sensitive, he breaks out in hives after five minutes. Well, is a bookstore as long of used books (upstairs), so that explains that.

Its a nice store to stroll through and look around. I just wish staff members were a little more visible. Many people go into the store looking around and it would be nice if they had someone to assist on the floor or make a recommendation. Sometimes people are looking for a gift and suggestions are helpful. I still prefer Barnes and Noble, but once in awhile its a nice alternative.

I moved to Huntington because I wanted a town with a local book store. This is the place I take my children to pick out their books, where I buy my own, and where I look forward to hear my favorite authors speak about their latest work. I could easily spend hours there. Book Revue is a rare jewel and Im happy to call it my local book store.

A great local place for browsing and buying books. Knowledge staff and good selection. These kinds of places are becoming fewer, but Book Revue still brings in a good crowd. Knocked one star off as often their prices are a little higher than competitors.

As an author, you do not want to try and deal with these people or give them a review copy. In the end, they will refuse to carry your book and make insensitive jokes about how they can use it as fire wood. Completely unprofessional.

My husband wanted to giftwrap a book and the cashier stated that they "dont have the manpower" even though there was a wrapping station right behind her and several other employees standing around not doing anything. 6/16/16 430pm

Easily my favorite bookstore. They always seem to have exactly what Im looking for, no matter how obscure it may be. The staff is always friendly and very helpful, and the graffiti on the bathroom door is very good for a laugh.
