Mitsuwa is a legitimate destination super market. How is that even possible? First, you get farm fresh vegetables along with things you only find in Japanese restaurants such as ginko nuts, enormous diakon radishes, burdock roots, and other delicacies. Second, you get freshly prepare seafood including sea urchin, shochu-marinated horse mackerel, seasoned cod roe, and myriad other treasures from the sea. Third, you can find every imaginable Japanese seasoning including the hard to find kudzu (yes, the weed that grows in the U.S. South has culinary uses). Fourth, the extensive food court can get you anything from outstanding ramen to kurobuta tonkatsu (fried Berkshire pork cutlet) to a steaming bowl of udon. The home appliances section includes rice steamers, in-house grills, hot pots, and all sorts of other cookery useful for those hoping to make Asian food at home. Across the drive is a Japanese accessories store (chopsticks, kimonos, lanterns, etc). But the reason I go is for the shochu selection. Yes, thats my thing. But theyve got a good one and the prices are a step or two below what youll pay in Manhattan. May not make up for the costs of transportation unless you use the bus service, but its a nicer selection than youll find anywhere save Landmark Wines on 23rd Street. Theyve got tons of sake and Japanese beer (including echigo and coedo - two hard to find labels) as well. If youre interested in Japanese cuisine or want to make something special at home, Mitsuwa is completely worth the trip. Just make sure youve got a couple hours to kill, because youre going to want to.

Mitsuwa Marketplace is surely a great place if youre looking for Japanese groceries, dining, shopping and more. I cant stress that you should be going for the food court food before your grocery shopping so you can enjoy the great variety of Japanese cuisine. All of the food court options are pretty good, but I highly recommend 天丼金子半之助 (Hannōsuke) with their Ten Don (Bowl of Rice with Tempura specialties.) That and all the other food are consistently delicious and great in quality every time! Thats surely what brings me back there a lot! Compared to any other Asian supermarket in the United States, Mitsuwa holds a lot of Japanese imported and localised products, packaged and fresh prepared. From time to time, there are even great imports of fresh things like meats - and theyre all fairly priced. They also have a really nice selection of Japanese rice wine. Go for the festivals too - constant promotion of Japans beautiful festivals and tranquil culture is one of the qualities no other cultures supermarkets in the nation pull this off… sadly, not even Chinese (unless its within a Chinatown.) From limited time food sales to food festivals with special regional Japanese cuisines all the way to large events with performances and food - Mitsuwa truly is the Japanese connection to the New York Metropolitan Area!

I always love this place and have been a customers for many years, however, recently for the past two times this month, I have been to Mitsuwa and experienced rude staff from the Kayaba Cusine. The first time was a holiday and the place was packed with people and I understand how busy the staff at Kayaba was so I did not say anything and let it go. The second time was a very bad experience because I brought a friend to Mitsuwa and the order food from Kayaba. One of the plate i order was not the right one and I also extra large the order as well. So I went to the staff and tell them the order was not right, the staff give me a rude response and make it seems like it is my false which the receipt clearly stated of what I wanted and they serve the wrong plate. Then she disregard me and treat me like it is not important until I tell her off and took a while for them to replace it and the order was not extra large. At that point I dont really care because after that happen, the securities from Mitsuwa were watching us eat and follow us around in the supermarket until we left. After this happen, I really not a big fan of this place after that and feel they mistreat their customers disrespectfully....

Mitsuwa is a marketplace that specializes in selling a wide variety of imported Japanese products. Whether youre looking for some Japanese snacks, a cup of noodles, drinks, frozen treats, merchandise, or books; this is the place to look. In fact, theres so much here; that its all spread out across multiple buildings/stores. With the main attraction being the Mitsuwa Marketplace itself; which is a large grocery store stocking a large range of Japanese foods and goods. Within this building there are also some restaurants and small stores spread about. Outside of the main building, there is a strip mall with a few other stores such as Books Kinokuniya (which sells books, some DVDs and CDs, and some anime/game merchandise near the counter) and Little Japan USA (which stocks a wide assortment of anime/game merchandise, art, interior goods, pottery, etc.). Across all of the stores, the prices are good, the quality is top-notch, and the employees are polite and helpful. Overall, Mitsuwa is THE place to be if youre looking for Japanese goods of any sort. tl;dr: A large marketplace that carries just about any Japanese product you could possibly want for good prices. 5/5 Stars.

This is a gem of a place. I used to come here back when it was called Yaohan decades ago. Get authentic Japanese food here. Standouts include the ramen noodle soups, the rice balls, the matcha ice cream, the Taiyaki (fish shaped cake with red bean paste inside - dont worry, its sweet and has no fish or fish taste to it), and the real deal chirashi bowls (assorted raw fish over a bed of sushi rice - authentic Japanese use smaller cuts of fish). Seating is sometimes an issue during peak times, but if you hover youll eventually get something. This is not a good place for large groups. Thats not even talking about the fully stocked Japanese supermarket where you can get all things Japanese, including a wide selection of Sake, fancy meats, veggies, sauces, condiments, snacks, candies, and cool japanese stuff like tupperware and other things to "contain yourself" - as theyre the masters of organization and compartmentalization. Often they will also have pop-up shops that feature amazing stuff from japan or famous chefs, where you can try some more authentic goodies. This place is awesome.

This place is awesome! Ever since I tried this place, I always try to come back when I get the chance to. I come here mainly for the food court because the japanese food is super authentic! I always get the ramen combo with the pork rice because i get to have some ramen and some rice. Ive tried the udon combo with pork katsu from another place which was alright, the display is so deceiving and makes you want to order it but its not the same in real life. I also recently discovered that the egg over rice with fried chicken is really good too! It comes with a side of shredded radish with seaweed and creamy sauce which is very refreshening. This is like one of the only places that I know that has soft serve green tea ice cream, it is super yummy! The regular green tea and red bean ice cream is good too depending on what you are craving. From the supermarket I like to get the green tea mochi which is super yummy as well. I pretty much like anything green tea flavored lol.I wish they had green tea kit kats and green tea pocky.
