As someone who judges a book by its cover, or in this case its title, I came into this place with almost zero expectation since it has such a goofy name. The older gentleman who worked the front door greeted me warmly and offered his help right away. Already thats a great sign! My goal of coming here is to find Kierkegaards Fear and Trembling so I asked him to show me the Philosophy section. Almost instantly, fear I felt while looking at this disappointingly sparse Philosophy section. After all, philosophy is the root of mankinds motives and behaviors and all things morals, ethics, progress and innovation. After I took some time browsing this area and not seeing what I came here for, I started to roam to other sections of the shop, including the Math and Science aisles. One thing I noticed is the fluctuation in price for various books. Fermis Thermodynamics costs a whooping 17 dollars for a tiny little pocket booklet with no more than 30 pages. This wasnt a first edition or a limited edition; upon searching quickly on amazon I can find a new one for less than 7 dollars. Meanwhile, Partial Differential Equations for Scientists and Engineers by Stanley Farlow only costs 16 dollars when it should probably go for more. Various other Feynmans books are quite pricey for being used, which makes me wonder if they know that you can read most of these books for free online. I want to see used bookstores flourish in Las Vegas. Hence, this place has my patronage. I just wish their prices are more reasonable so I dont feel bad spending ~30 dollars or more on a used science book.

First the good: the store has a great selection of books, one of the best selections I have seen in a used bookstore. The majority of the books are in pretty good condition considering they are used. The staff I met was friendly. The bad: the layout will make your head spin. Seriously, they should give out maps at the front door. The staff however is very proactive in asking you what you are looking for and offering to direct you accordingly. Also there seemed always to be about 8-10 people in the store so it felt a little crowded and cramped. I like to browse in comfort and at my own pace. The ugly: the prices. Holly smokes! The books are really not marked down to what I would consider a reasonable discount considering their age and wear. Even the discount rack near the front of the store was pricey considering the selection. I laughed out loud a couple of times at the prices I saw. It is the most expensive used bookstore I have ever visited. I would visit here again only if I was looking for a specific book and I knew they had it at a reasonable price.

Traded in books for store credit about a year ago and had $75 worth in Fiction paperback. I recieved a call a few days ago letting me know about their 25% off holiday sale. I asked if I could trade my $75 credit into non-fiction or hardcover and was told yes, but would have to come to the store and negotiate with the owner. Went down today and the owner claimed no one told me that I could do that. Called me a liar in front of everyone in the store and said that she couldnt exchange my credit into anything I actually wanted. I picked out $97 worth of books today and left with nothing because she wouldnt honor my $75 credit that they had on file into anything other than paperback after I was told on the phone that I could do that. I will not be returning to this book store, they can keep my $75 credit.

The store is full of interesting books, that can be a bit pricey. Upon arrival, when asked if they had any books on electronics or circuitry. I was was put down, in that, the lady with the nose ring and black hair, told me, " they dont carry those kind of books, because they think they are the devil." Demonizing my future proffession (and what made these reviews possible) made me extremely uncomfortable, yet I still went to gander at their selection. To find scientific books on computing, electronic engineering, and other scientific selections that would have been helpful. So, they do have many books, just disappointed in the service and price.

The staff is super friendly! I was looking for a rare book by a not so popular author, and they had it! I knew that because of their name they would have this book I was looking for :) I called at least 10 other bookstores before coming across this one and none of them had it. They have tons of books, and if youre a book lover like myself you can go in there and fall in love with how much they have to chose from, also they have very reasonable prices on their books. This is definitely my new go to spot for books! They are having a sale right now!!!

The fact that they wouldnt serve me or help me epitomizes whats wrong with this city. The customer service sucks. I am an avid reader who prefers used book stores but since these books are priced like theyre new and these guys dont know how to do their job - I wont ever set foot inside of this shop again. This is how these small shops go out of business. They make themselves USELESS by refusing to give the service they are supposedly in business to offer. Utterly disappointing! Barnes and Noble, thrift stores and Amazon it is! Good riddance AU!

I love any good brick and mortar bookstore, but a great used bookstore is a really great find! The Amber Unicorn recently burst the seams of their location and added the adjacent unit. What this means is their collection is constantly growing. My only holdout is the prices: for used books, I think they are overpriced. However, I do realize rents in Vegas are steep and I prefer picking up a book versus browsing online. Therefore, Im a loyal customer. Employees are very courteous and helpful, as is the owner. Overall, a great experience!

Wonderful bookstore! Very nice selection and knowledgeable, helpful staff. If you ask nicely you may be able to get them to open up their other space; its just next door but its not directly linked to the main store so you have to walk outside to get to it like its another store entirely. Its the same size as the main store with many wonderful books. There were many more great books (I was looking for classic fantasy and sf) than I could purchase and read in one visit.

The customer service was great, the prices are outlandish. Horton Hears a Who, Kohls edition: New $5. Here $9. 10 Little Lady Bugs: New $5 Here $9 Madline: New $11.50 Here $9 Diary of a Wimpy Kid: MSRP $11.95 Here $9 I could go on. As used kids books often are, these books were written in and had loose spines. To be over original price or a mere $2 less than a new book, is unreasonable. Sadly I wasted 60 minutes on a round trip, for nothing.

One of the last great bookstores remaining as the others fade into tragic disuse. With my degree in English and a semi-career as a writer, Amber Unicorn in Las Vegas is my holy sanctuary. My church. A place of worship. Their selection is more plentiful & diverse & affordable than we deserve...read more books, America!! Plus, their collection of occult & esoteric literature holds some truly sought-after gems. They even buy books!! So go. Now.
