Kroger, except for its pharmacy, offers a generally pleasant shopping experience. I was long dissatisfied with the quality of the service at the pharmacy. Basically, untrained people were prone to answer questions way above their pay grade. At least when asked they would acknowledge they werent the pharmacist, but their errors were annoying at best, occasionally dangerous. The pharmacists rotate in and out so you never know whos there and dont develop any kind of personal relationship. There is an absolutely lovely middle-aged woman there who once brought meds to my house when, based on repeated misinformation, I made several trips there to pick up special order meds that they sold to someone else. And there is or was a short fat dark-haired pharmacist there who is a pluperfect stinker, obnoxious and ornery as one-eyed rattlesnake. Some of the staff were lovely and some had an I-couldnt-care-less attitude. They seemed to have a very high turnover rate, and seemed always short staffed. I changed to Helping Hand Pharmacy several months ago where everyone is glad to see me, pleasant, and best of all, competent. If its slightly more expensive, its worth it 10 times over. As for the groceries, the actual shopping experience is usually fine. They are occasionally slow to open extra lanes when needed and the too frequent rearrangement of the store is annoying and wastes your time. Ive been disappointed at the attitude of management (Ive never asked at what level someone is), when I inquired about their stocking some product. The usual answer was a question: Do they carry it in Jackson (like I would know)? Because if Jackson doesnt carry it Vicksburg cant have it. Because Vicksburg borders Louisiana, and lots of people from Louisiana shop at our Kroger, youd think our Kroger would cater to their needs at least a little. Im happy we cater to Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Near-East, Italian, and East Indian needs, presumably because Jackson does, but why not to our Louisiana neighbors, even though Vicksburgs several Louisiana type restaurants do booming business, two of them within a few blocks of Kroger. I wonder what percentage of Vicksburgers have at least some Louisiana roots or connections. Pretty high. A case in point: Vicksburg Kroger sells shrimp and cocktail sauce, but the preferred sauce for shrimp in Louisiana is remoulade. There are several excellent Louisiana-style remoulades available commercially. Our Kroger must stock 2 or 3 dozen hot sauces, but no remoulade because "Jackson doesnt carry it." I hate to use the word stupid so I wont, but I will say its not good business. Another case in point. I have to watch my sugar intake and find the Atkins shakes a great help. When I first began, Kroger carried the full assortment, but often sold out of my favorite, the Cafe Caramel. But the Cafe Caramel was usually sold out, so Id settle on the Mocha and maybe get a few of the Dark Chocolate, my third choice. I noticed the Vanilla and Strawberry shakes rarely if ever moved. The Milk Chocolate, my fourth choice seemed to sell pretty well, but there were always a few on hand; finally Kroger stocked only the Milk Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry, and the last time I checked, thats all that was there and all there was space for. So the thinking on that is----? For reasons such as this I began visiting the long-despised Walmart. I dont like the way Walmart treats its employees, so I have boycotted it for years, but out of necessity I began visiting, first just specifically for things I couldnt get at Kroger, but then, gradually, adding this and that bargain until eventually I no longer visited Kroger except for the very few items Kroger carries that Walmart doesnt. Even the savings at the gas pump dont compensate for the savings I get at Walmart. Especially in a town as small as Vicksburg, where there is nothing like a Target, Walmart fills the one-stop void for many kinds of basic household items that Kroger, regrettably, does not.

I LOVE our Kroger!!!! I love the variety that is offered, the sales, the accommodating staff, and the gas discount rewards. Several months ago the attitude of the cashiers was less than desirable. They were talking with each other as people checked out and seemed to care less whether or not a customer got taken care of. When management changed recently, I began to notice a difference in attitude and some different personnel. Now the entire experience is great. Thank you for giving Vicksburg this up-graded store. This is one serious grocery store. Prices are a bit higher compared to you know who? Walmart! But! It gets much better if you sign up for their special members card. Then the prices drop into my pay grade. Tons of variety. I love it.

This store is clean, always stocked, with plenty of cashiers to minimize long waits in checkout lines. Also has good weekly sales, gas discounts for shopping with them and a good place for a deli lunch 7 days a week.

Well stocked and organized. The only complaint is that there was trash on the floor by main entrance and restroom and that didnt seem to bother any employee. Check out was speedy on a Friday night.

Dirty, dark and loud. Trash and shopping carts strewn around the parking lot. I would suggest you lock your car and Im from Chicago where I never lock my car.
