A nice post-apocalyptic construction zone with terrific displays of dirt, closed shops, and people who appear dazed from some kind of blast. I cant seem to find anyone who believes it will ever end. Inside a bar enjoying the beer with a 13% sales tax, I sit beside a few giddy nutters spreading some gospel about a "super bowl" which will change everything as we know it. I ask them to tell me when this will be, they say "A winter coming soon!" I scratch my head in wonder as the drooling nutter adds, "Its only the greatest time of year to be alive in Minnesota! Why theres snow and ice! Traffic congestion, and car accidents! An exhilarating time for us all! Who wouldnt want to come here and share the bounty of the season!" I finish my beer and leave. Walking down Nicollet mall afterwards has me deep in thought. A man stares down at me menacingly from the skyway above, and I wonder how long it will be before they install pay-per-shot sniper stations up there to sportingly pick us off in these dirt troughs below. I encourage everyone to find their own rosy epiphany that can only come from a stroll down Nicollet Mall.

I love Nicollet mall. I live a couple blocks away and walk through it twice a day to get to and from the light rail. Its really more a street than a mall. There are lots of shops, restaurants and bars there. Its all a construction zone now but should be amazing when renovations are complete. The light rail stops right at the end so if you dont like driving or parking downtown thats a great way to get there. You can also spend hours exploring the skyways which are great when its cold. Sadly a few of the large stores have, or are going to, close including Macys, Barnes and Noble, Sports Authority and OfficeMax. Hopefully better things will move in. You can recognize several spots from the Mary Tyler Moore show and see the big statue of her. Definitely worth a visit if youre in Minneapolis.

Once the construction is done, this should be a four star strip of shopping and dining. The construction and general retail economy has made it hard to keep all the store fronts in business. It does do a much better job adapting than most mall districts. FYI, this is a stretch of road through downtown with shopping. It is connected via skyways though, so if the weather is unpleasant, you can navigate most of it without ever stepping outside. Depending on where you are staying, I recommend starting around 12th street and work your way to the light rail (street numbers get smaller; 5th street) to catch the blue line to MOA for a solid Minnesota shopping experience.

I am, in no way, a fan of downtown Minneapolis. However, for this trip, we came downtown in the evening, on a Saturday, to watch a show at the Dakota Jazz Club. We parked in the Target Center ramp, just a half block from the Dakota. This is key, because Im disabled and cannot walk more than a hundred or so feet without sitting down. I also cannot negotiate stairs. As it turned out, I only had to sit and rest once each way, and there were no stairs, the bulk of which I am very grateful for. It was a wonderful experience all around. The parking, while not free, was convenient and abundant. We enjoyed our time on the mall that night. Highly recommended!

Nicollet Ave is totally torn up and looks like a disaster. Speaking of disasters, the lenghth of time the city has wasted on this project is itself a disaster. The 3 stooges could have completed this project months ago. If a business can survive through this protracted shutdown it will be a miracle. When will they finish this?? My estimate is the year 2030 .... and that might be rushing them!!! no stars for the city of Minneapolis on this boondoggle. It better turn out real great!

As a long term resident of Downtown Minneapolis, very disappointed that we dont have more options for shopping, retail and restaurants that accomodate a variety of budgets. Its cheaper to shop at chains in upscale suburbs than it is with the stores on Nicollet Mall, which also lacks variety in merchandise and food options. As well as the 3 year construction project, on Nicollet Mall, which is almost done, but it wasnt worth the inconvenience that it caused so many people.

I love this area of Minneapolis. Once the construction is finished this will be one of the best pedestrian entertainment districts in the country. New restaurants are popping up all the time and the fact that theres a Target halfway down the mall is great for shopping. This is one of the best places I have gone to relax on a patio and watch the people go by. The only negative is that with so many people you also attract panhandlers that can sometimes be aggressive.

It will be a really nice place downtown Minneapolis once all the street construction is finished. Finish date has been delayed & delayed. Macys is closed. Barnes & Noble is closing down. Neiman Marcus Is closed down. Sacks 5th closed awhile ago. Once the City of Minneapolis and the various developers get the latest mega project finished before hosting Super Bowl LII next year the whole place will be really great. But not yet.

Its nice. I am still not familiar with the entire layout of the mall (like, where does it begin and when does it end?), but it has a lot of decent shops. I feel like (I know) they are mainly targeting the more affluent, whiter demographics so there are a couple of shops that I am not interested in (len, brooks brothers). They got your staples such as Marshalls though. Its nice overall. Its got a nice atmosphere.

Nice place to go walking around or even doing light shopping or if you simply love being around hustle and bustle of the city. Only downside... Malls are starting to go extinct in many places. Online shopping is booming and therefore if businesses are not bringing in revenue then doors will close and unfortunately that is what is happening to many Nicollete malls... The future? I have no idea

Nicollet mall is famously known for the statute of Mary Tyler Moore, a legand. Its also great to people watching as many cultural events take place within the hotels and venues assiocated. Great food, and great ppl. Just be aware of your surroundings as you would anywhere you go. All around its public safety risk factors are low as many police officer congregate on the same block.

Most things that relate are grouped within the same area but the directory isnt noticeable enough in my opinion to know where to find what youre looking for. Most of what I searched for was plainly seen but I had no idea about the other resturaunts that seemed a bit hidden. That could be a good thing in the fact that searching is fun. Altogether nice experience though.

While under construction now, it is usually a great pedestrian dominant avenue through the heart of downtown Minneapolis, though busses and taxis are allowed down the 2 lane street. Shopping and dining galore though many big names (most recently Macys) have pulled out of Nicollet Mall store fronts as many shoppers now use suburban shopping centers.

This has okay shopping and some cool stores, but it for how large it is and how early everything closes (typically between 4 and 7 PM) it kind of wrecks the experience. Its also kind of dirty, but theres little to be done about that. PS, if you go here, go check out go sushi, it has great sushi for a great price!
