Why I love Five Watt. Classic MoTown playing just loud enough. Trevor bopping his head to the music and eating his lunch at the bar. Ash and Andrew trading quips and whipping up magic with the best pours in town. Gentle buzz of conversation at tables. Lone wolves hunched over their laptops. Old guys. Young guys. Old gals. Young gals. Cross gender. Gay. Straight. Rich. Not rich. Right in between. Artists. Street people. Business owners. Entrepreneurs. Grad students. Undergrads. Models between shoots. Retirees in for their daily news read and cuppa. Veterans. Cops. Black Lives Matter. Native Americans. Asians. Every variety of flavor and color and profession. Even a few scared looking private investigators. It’s the hub of the wheel that is Kingfield. And the spokes are all the diverse people who call Kingfield home and Five Watt their front room and meeting place. Best. Coffee. Ever. Want a basic cup of joe? Got it, and Ash and Andrew can quote TWIN PEAKS at you while they pour. Complex nuanced takes on the latte with home made bitters and other aromatics – start with the Kingfield or the Hibernator if you want to stretch your palate. Having a hard time deciding? Get an education from the friendly and knowledgeable baristas. Best. Baristas. Ever. Great attitude, remember your name and your drinks, mad skills. Thank you: Ezra, Andrew 1 and Andrew 2, Kendra, Ash, Bri, Ben, Jon, Lauren, Trevor, Brandon, Gabriel, and all the pitch hitters and 5W veterans, Caleb and Lee for entrepreneurial genius and coffee shop gurudom Best. Coffee. Shop. Ever. Come by. You’re a regular as soon as you walk in the door. Be cool, be respectful, tip well. They’ll remember your name.

The service is usually pretty good and when it isnt they make it right. Baristas are very friendly and happy, but the space is unimpressive at best and cramped at worst. My main complaint is the quality of coffee - Ive been here at least a dozen times and have never been impressed by the espresso, the drip, or the pour-overs, which typically taste bland and lack any depth of flavor. For most people this probably doesnt matter - I was a barista for several years in specialty coffee so Im much more picky than most. But since I consider five-watt a specialty coffee shop I judge them by the same standards as Spyhouse and Dogwood, and in terms of coffee quality they fall very short of the mark. I hope that as they grow they give more attention to taste, and as they gain roasting experience this may happen. But if it doesnt, then theyre just a "cool" neighborhood spot with a mod-bar for people who dont know how genuinely delicious good coffee can (and ought to) be.

Terrific staff, good coffee. However too many selfish young folks on their computers taking up space and not buying much. Who told, enabling parents I assume, these people its ok to "study" in a place of business. Ive walked out more than once when all the spots were taken Ive come back hours later to see the same lead ass people on their computers. This is a place of business not a library. Five Watt needs to pull the plug on their wireless. I guarantee they would not lose a dime in business. I have read reviews of many coffee houses and many of the commenters are looking for a place to study and take up space all day. WHAT!!! All coffee houses... pull the plug.

Five Watt is the best coffee shop in the Twin Cities!!! Lee Carter is a genius and always has been when it comes to coffee drinks. Ive followed him since his days at Bull Run Coffee on Lyndale. Its not just his genius though! He and the other ownership and staff make that place shine! They have a lot of really amazing irons in the fire for new concepts, and I couldnt be happier or more ecstatic for them. My favorite drink is the Kingfield. I crave that thing when Im in the area. Crave it.. Go check out one of the coolest spots in the Cities today!! You wont be sorry! :)

What a wonderful little coffee shop. Early mornings the manager can be seen working the bar or cash register and bantering with his employees and customers. Everyone here is so friendly and they get your coffee out in a reasonable amount of time even if its busy. The coffee itself is very good as well, they even have a few cold press coffees on tap on nitro which is pretty neat. Sundays they have local musicians playing inside. Highly recommend this place to coffee lovers and casual caffeine hounds alike!

Easily my favorite coffee shop in the entire city. House made bitters, fresh ingredients, and locally roasted coffee beens makes this place unrivaled in the breadth and taste of their offerings. Quaint and laid back, youll be hard pressed to find a shop offering the quality and creativity of Five Watt. If you are hungry, be sure to pick up any of the bakery items made fresh by Patisserie 46. Simply a must for all coffee lovers.

Very lively and noisy, if thats the type of environment you like to work in than this is the place for you. They have many unique. Baristas are attentive and very knowledgeable. One down side is the price of the specialty drinks. I had to give them three dollar signs because Ive never heard of such ostentatious prices! I wouldnt go as far as saying the the toilet paper rolls in the bathroom are something to check out, ha ha ha!

This is an awesome little local coffee shop. The drip coffee is great. The atmosphere is vibrant and definitely a "hipster" hang out. Only tried one of the brews of coffee and it was tasty. They have multiple to choose from including a selection of other drinks and beers. They have baked goods and a small menu as well. If you are in the Minneapolis area and a coffee drinker, this is a must!! Stop on by!

Im not a huge coffee drinker, normally only getting chai at coffee shops, but I saw the Hibernator in their menu and had to try it. Been going back regularly even though its they minutes from my home. Worth every minute. Its sometimes a bit of a wait, but not because theyre slow, its because theyre busy, read: popular--and rightfully so! Try 5 Watt and youll never muster the energy to go anywhere else!

This is, and I mean this, hands down my favorite coffee shop in the Twin Cities. They execute well on the basics. They have wild stuff like coffee cocktails (try them) and carbonated coffee on tap. The staff are wonderful people, *and* theyre great at their jobs. The wifi is spectacular. The space is comfortable, and theres a good energy about it if you want to get work done. You should go here.

Sometimes when I visit a coffee shop I feel somewhat intimidated by the staff. Sometimes you get the feeling that they are already annoyed with you. BUT thank the lord for Five Watt who has some outstanding staff members. Everytime ive gone in there the staff is so kind and so pleasant. Seriously. Oh and the espresso is to die for. You guys rock. Come to NE!!!! ;)

This is my favorite coffee shop in the cities and I am convinced that I have been to most of them. The staff never turns over and they know everybody by name and drink. On top of getting baked goods from Patisserie 46 they make the BEST cold press I have ever had. I cannot say enough good things about this place, it fits right in with a growing neighborhood.
