I just had a VERY FRUSTRATING experience with this optical store. After spending $750 on new glasses and getting my eyes examined there to obtain an updated prescription to purchase these new glasses, THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME A COPY OF MY FULL PRESCRIPTION INCLUDING PD. I had just read a Boston Globe article about how typically optometrists dont give you your full prescription so you cannot buy glasses online. (Article dated 3/21/17 "What Your Optometrist Doesnt Want You To Know." ) MA OPTOMETRISTS ARE LEGALLY REQUIRED TO GIVE YOU YOUR PD NUMBER WHEN ASKED. Since I was spending a boatload of money for new glasses, I felt morally entitled, not just legally entitled, to request this information. So when they gave offered me a copy of my prescription, I said yes I would like a copy and I would like it to include my PD number on it. The optician (not the optometrist) basically said no, claiming liability reasons and other nonsense reasons. I then went back to the optometrist who had just examined me and she said she doesnt take this measurement as a general practice, and that she leaves it up to the optician to take it. And since I was no longer in her examine room, my appointment had technically ended a few minutes ago, that she would not be able to take this measurement. (It had already been taken by the optician anyway... but she would not release it.) So I was in a catch 22, where the optometrist is intentionally not taking this essential measurement (having the optician do it instead), so she that she cant be legally required to release it. VERY SNEAKY. This is BAD BUSINESS if you ask me, especially to customers dropping $750 on one lousy pair of glasses.

I want to shout about the generosity and quality customer service I received at Highland Opticians and specifically Julie, the young woman who served me. I visited Newton while on a three week vacation from my Peace Corps service in Ethiopia. My life style there has been hard on my glasses. First one arm then the other fell off. I returned to the States hoping to be able to have them repaired. My three weeks were very full visiting friends and family from Coast to Coast. Not until my last few days in Newton did I remember to look into having my glasses repaired. Given the condition of my glasses I was not certain they would be repairable, here in Ethiopia I was told they were not repairable. Julie at Highland Opticians was of a different mind. Not only did she make the repairs upon learning that I was serving in the Peace Corps she repaired them for free. Being here in Ethiopia is a mixed pleasure. Highland Opticians is excellent—customer oriented and technically proficient. Recently, when I lost my glasses in Turkey, I asked a local optician in Sirince (where Ephesus is located) to call Highland Opticians for my prescription. Emily was most responsive, and my new glasses were ready within an hour. Being able to see for the next few days of my trip was a definite enhancement.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Highland Opticians. They went above and beyond in every aspect. They were very knowledgeable, extremely kind, patient and attentive. All the things you want in a service experience. Especially when its something as important as your eyesight. I am happy to refer them and I will be a loyal customer in years to come.

The staff is always helpful and knows just recommend (how glasses look on you, etc.) They dont make a practice of just recommending the most expensive frames - they recommend what works!
