I love their organic produce and I think its a better price then giant or anywhere else. I think its in good condition now that whoever works there has stopped putting organic stickers on conventional grapefruit. I have photographic proof of when this happened. Im very very disturbed by their Pharmacy except for Dave. The women that started working there have been arbitrarily discriminatory. Even without a prescription in Maryland any pharmacist can dispense syringes and I have a cat with diabetes for whom I paid $300 to Safeway for a tiny tiny vial of insulin that my vet said to use even past the expiration date. So, in February, when were about to have our blizzard, I try to get syringes from the pharmacy I have gone to for 20 years and the new pharmacist says no. Its her decision whether or not to give them out but 87% of Maryland pharmacist will, even without a prescription, and I had one. She looked it up after already having said no and pointed out that it expired the week before and I told her my vet said use the insulin for my diabetic cat anyway. I told her we were going to be trapped in for a blizzard and I have a cat who is insulin dependent and the pharmacist, who never looked me in the eye, kept shaking her head saying no. So after I gave her a bad review on Facebook page, 4 months later I try to go get my own prescription filled and I got 30 pills when the prescription was 60. I called the Safeway and spoke with customer service and was supposed to get a call back from the manager and waited 9 days and went in there and they gave me my 30 extra pills with no explanation. No apology either. Anyway I wanted things to be good so I wrote them a good review on Facebook but then the next time I had a rash my doctor prescribed a cream for it and the other female pharmacist called me and asked what I was using it for and said my insurance wanted to know so I told her, and then when I went to pick it up the same pharmacist who had called me asked me again in front of people what kind of use I had for the lotion like where on my body I was using it, claiming once again my "insurance company wanted to know where it was being used." I said "how very odd, didnt you just call me earlier and asked me why I was getting this topical cream? " I recognized her voice. I looked her in the eye and she looked flustered. I had to say" my breasts" in front of other patrons are patients at the pharmacy. I have no idea why Im being treated that way but other people who use pharmacies a lot say it it is harassment. Im an artist and I dress like one occasionally but that shouldnt get me treated like I dont belong in my own community. Oh and my doctor says she wrote what I had to use the cream for on my prescription so they were just harassing me. That Pharmacy needs respect for its patrons.

I am new to the area and am trying to find a grocery store. The Safeway in Charles Village is the closest, so we went there first. Upon entering, no carts were to be found in the entry way, and all the carts on the sidewalk did not work. After entering, the selection is good and the store is fairly clean. The overall vibe of the employees however did not seem positive, for whatever reason, just as an observation. When I went to sign up for my Safeway card , the customer service rep said they were all out. This was surprising. Lastly, on a Sunday afternoon, only 2 lanes plus self check out were open, requiring everyone to wait for about 8-10 minutes to check out. When exiting, the person that finally had come out to retrieve carts was on their phone. With a couple things remaining on our list, we decided to try the Harris Teeter in Fed Hill. We got what we needed at Harris Teeter, its very clean, all the lanes were open, and decided we will do all our shopping there from now on.

The only reason I visit this store is that its within walking distance, and I dont drive. No matter the time of day, there are rarely more than 2 registers open unless its right before a holiday like Easter or Thanksgiving. Self service is a better option, except they dont have the lane marked for it, so fully expect people to cut in front of you when youre waiting. Theyll then open up one or two more. Prices are reasonable, but if anything is in the circular, make sure you visit the day it comes out. Otherwise, good luck. Workers at my local Safeway tend to spend more time chatting with each other than working - theyll leave carts full of stock (carts they take out of the rack in the front of the store) sitting in aisles while they chat for the entire time Im at the store (20 - 30 min).

Completely inconsistent inventory availability and staffing, both of which only seem to be getting worse since I started shopping here seven years ago. I shop here because I pass through the area frequently each day, which is in fact essential, since I usually have to visit the store three times a week just to finally find everything I needed in stock. These stock shortcomings also extend to sale items, which, although the new sales circular comes out on Wednesday, are often out of stock until Thursday or Friday. Shop here Friday afternoon if you can - otherwise, its a crapshoot. With this being said, I have found the staff to be friendly and helpful, although they often have an (understandable!!) sense of exasperation.

Worst grocery store in Baltimore. Even on the busiest of days, there is never more than 2 checkout lines open, and lines are long. Worse still, whoever does the buying for this place has no idea how to do it. By days end, the only almond and soy milks available are unsweetened. Same goes for just about everything else: only pepperoni frozen pizza, only raisin bagels, only blueberry muffins. Customers buying habits are ignored, and the empty shelves indicate as much. The buyer appears to blindly stock equal amounts of everything in spite of the fact that the most popular flavors are routinely sold out by midday. In summary, terrible choices and terrible service.

This store is PERFECTLY located in a vibrant neighborhood with plenty of people however they FAIL miserably at customer service. At the peak hours between 4p and 7p they have only 2 lanes open!!! And on top of that half of the self check out lines do not work and to finish it off there is no one at the service desk!!! Horrible! I have waited in line for more than 20 minutes and two times simply left because I got tired of waiting. I have shared this with their manager Kim and I hope the owners see this post. Such potential wasted. Man the store and more people will come. For the love of the community do something!!!!

They have improved the checkouts! The lines are much less now then before. I like the produce better than Giant in Hampden. There is less selection but the quality at Safeway is much better. Selection of other products is good but not great. I wish they carried more varieties of unsweetened applesauce, but they have a great selection of mixed nuts (very specific to my needs here I know). The bakery is good. The seafood and butcher are excellent. I love the people here, both shoppers and staff.
