Dont buy into the hype! Donuts are worse than what is offered at your fast-food donut chains, and service is far below par. We just recently returned from a trip to Portland to visit family, and one of the highlights of the trip for us was going to Blue Star Donuts and having their amazing, high-quality, locally sourced donuts. When we returned to Tampa we decided to see if Tampa had something similar to offer, which brought us to Datz Dough. We walked into the pleasant enough store and were met with a handful of pastry options, including about 8ish flavors of donut. We were "helped" by the associate behind the counter who obviously didnt want to be there. We asked if there was a description of the donuts we could read (they arent even labelled for flavor), and he scoffingly told us no, but be "guessed he could tell us what they were." So we get two flavors of donuts, and a couple of lattes. The lattes were fine, pretty much your average coffee shop quality (certainly better than Starbucks). The donuts were bland. The dough seemed stale and uninspiring, and the toppings tasted like they came out of a can. Honestly, fresh Krispey Kreme donuts are hands down better. I recommend the owners fly their bakers to Portland to taste a Blue Star Donut.

One of the only nice bakeries in town. There are some good things and some bad things about this place. Pros are the pastries are very good, and some of them are fairly priced (mostly the doughnuts), they have a decent selection of coffee, pastries and ice cream, and the employees are usually very kind. Cons are some things are extremely overpriced, cupcakes are very expensive 5$ each, other various pastries and handmade candies are as well. There was also a small chocolate bar that was 9$ (ARE YOU KIDDING ME?) I noticed most of their candy was expired because they probably dont sell it much cause its so pricey. Coffee is about par with starbucks prices, but the Americano is very cheap..BUT I wouldnt even recommend getting coffee here because its so weak its basically water. If you go later in the day theres also a good chance that the pastries might be very stale. There was a brownie that was so stale that the icing on top had hardened to the point that you couldnt even scrape it off. Over all, bad coffee, yummy doughnuts, some cheap, some not. My recommendation is stick with the doughnuts, theyre gooood and cheap. And while youre at it go get lunch next door at Datz, they have good food and interesting selections.

I cannot say enough good things about Dough. I recently moved to Tampa and when choosing our apartment we kept in mind its proximity to this place after visiting from NY. I fall in love each time I come here. I always tell people its my happy place. The decor alone makes me smile ear to ear. If someone tells me they havent been to Dough, I take them to Dough. If someone tells me theyve been to Dough and loved it, I bring them to Dough. If someone tells me theyve been to Dough and didnt like it, I tell them they must be referring to the wrong dough and then I bring them to Dough! The donuts are incredible, the salted chocolate chip cookies are to die for, and the lattes are the best Ive had in any state. The prices are spot on for the quality and if you want something cheaper than dunkin donuts isnt too far but youd be cheating yourself out of an experience that is wonderful, delicious and unique to only this one place. You deserve Dough. Edit: My one complaint as of late is freshness. Ive had a not so fresh French toast donut the other day and then my salted chocolate chip cookies werent moist as usual yesterday... consistency is key and thats been missing this past week

I gave this place four chances. Thats two more than I customarily give, and they utterly failed to redeem themselves. Both the restaurant and bakery are failures, in my opinion. The maitre d in the restaurant took a simple take-out order - ahead of the lunch rush - but was curt and even rude. "Wait over there," he said, "so you wont be in the way." Really? And the macaroons: give me a break. These very costly pastries were hard as rocks and clearly stale. Since the maitre d chose them from the cooler, dont you think he might have noticed - or advised me - that my choice was not good that particular day? Or was he that clueless? The take out order - chicken salad - was priced just exactly as a plated item, but lacked everything: sides, garnish, etc. Just a lump of salad in a cardboard box. In the bakery, I twice was given doughnuts so flat and tasteless, and with such poor consistency, they seemed to be made of spackle. I dont what enables these folks to stay in business: the craft beers, I imagine, and the location. That and a spurious reputation as the "go to" place in Palma Ceia must be whats keeping their doors open. I, for one, will never darken those doors again.

I recently ordered an assorted dozen cupcakes with custom printed decorations to surprise my girlfriend for her birthday. I called the order in a few days ahead of time, and I planned on picking them up on Saturday after dinner at Datz. When we went in, they werent made yet. It turned out they had confused the order, and thought I was picking it up Sunday. I was pretty bummed about the surprise being ruined, but they offered to make them first thing in the morning and deliver them to us at home, free of charge. They also gave us a few goodies that night on the house. The cupcakes were delivered the next morning as promised, and it ended up a better surprise than I could have planned. They looked stellar, and are ridiculously delicious. The management went far above and beyond what they had to do to make it right, and totally saved the day. This was not going to be a cheap order - that shows how much they care about making their customers happy. Bravo Dough, youve got many customers for life from this one experience. I cant thank you enough!

Second time eating here and neither time have we been impressed at all with the bakery. The first time I had fruity pebble cheesecake and my bf had some Oreo cupcake thing. They were so very flavorless and super dry, we just threw it away. The second time we tried it was today, after eating the food at datz (which was amazingly good!) we decided to give dough one more try. So today we got an Oreo brownie and a birthday cake doughnut. Again, both very flavorless and dry. Waist of money both times, I wanted to love this place SOOO bad because everything here "looks" amazingly delicious but when you actually try it, its just dry and flavorless. Not to mention that my doughnut was hard and literally crunchy on the edges and the icing just fell off because of how hard it was. Gluten free and vegan doughnuts and brownies and cupcakes have way more flavor than these things. I gave it one star because the lady was super nice at the counter. Im just so disappointed because I swear I wanted this to be my number 1 spot. :(

We have been there 2 times. First time was very good with a helpful lady employee. We went to Datz and Dough on May 24,2014 and they were both disappointing. I had to ask the waitress at Datz to please remove the plates we didnt need more than one time. She really didnt check up on us. Summary: Food at Datz was very good but service was very poor. We then went to Dough. I gave them a Creative Loafing certificate and the discount we are supposed to get from eating at Datz. The male employee said I cant use both. I explained the certificate is like cash. He said Oh, then he told me it was already used, I explained we purchased it the day before. He tried again and I never heard back from him. He didnt seem like he wanted to be at work that day. His poor service and that of the waitress at Datz will keep us from going back to either one.
