Boutique 12 sells shoddily constructed clothing and accessories for exorbitant prices and has a strict "no return" policy, which puts them firmly in the "swindler" category in my book. The story: My coworker and I were doing some shopping after a business trip and the place definitely has some very cute clothes, so we stopped in. The owner was very "attentive" until she realized that we werent the types to just come in and buy everything we saw. She then got a bit snotty and aggressive, telling us if we came back they probably wouldnt have any clothes left...that they sell out every Friday and Saturday. Despite this annoying tactic, my coworker found a pretty cute, woven, vegan-leather belt and she bought it. There was a dress and a skirt that I really liked, but I had noticed a few loose threads on some of the cotton pieces, and we had just started our day, so I decided to look around more of the boutiques before I made my decision. We had made it another few blocks and my coworker found some sandals she really liked so she decided to try the belt on again and noticed that some of the pieces of the woven part had come loose. Upon closer inspection, it became obvious the pieces hadnt even been sewn to the belt in the first place (there were no original stitching holes). At that point I had decided I wanted the dress and skirt after all, so we went back to return the belt and make my purchase. When we returned to the store, the owner had left for the day and the sales girl informed us they did not accept returns, only exchanges for store credit. This would have been annoying enough, but she then accused us of breaking the belt ourselves to try and pull one over on them. We pointed out the fact that there were no stitching or rip marks on the pieces that were loose, and she told us that we could have very easily torn the belt ourselves (in the *hour* since we left the store). She then called the owner and the owner said the same thing. My coworker asked if the owner would be in the next day (Saturday) and we were informed that the sore was not open on Saturdays. Which means that the owner blatantly LIED when she said her store sells out of clothes after every Friday and Saturday (see first paragraph). Unfortunately we were both leaving before Sunday, the next day the owner would be in, so we talked about her returning the belt for store credit and my using the credit to purchase the items I wanted. At that point, however, I had absolutely no desire to give them another cent, so we left with broken belt and a sour taste in our mouths. I happen to know a fantastic leather-worker at home in New Jersey, so I took the belt to him to have the loose pieces sewn in. He looked at me in astonishment when he saw the price tag ($27) and just shook his head sadly, then pointed out another dozen places the material was already pulling apart. Despite his disgust at the quality, he fixed the broken pieces but told me we had been swindled. And I wholeheartedly agree. Ill say it again: Boutique 12 sells shoddily constructed clothing and accessories for exorbitant prices and has a strict "no return" policy, which puts them firmly in the "swindler" category.
