Expensive and misleading... I first got a negative impression in Santa Barbara when I had a serious problem with my brand new power bank that came with the Accellerator panel. The lady I approached just smiled and said there was nothing that could be done and I felt they should replace it and get free merchandise from their supplier to sell for it. Well this time I was going to go big 5 or Sears but they said there was a huge labor day sale so I figured I would try again. On Labor day I was there pricing what I wanted to buy... who pays 800 dollars for a sleeping bag? Wow. Anyway I bought a decent sleeping bag and the anti-theft dude said I would need to buy a compression bag for it. It did have one included however. An extra 20 dollars or more for a 3 dollars bag...if you are shopping downtown LA anyway... So I also got a sleeping pad that seemed affordable with the huge Labor Day sale, only 100 dollars for a 99 cent floatie..wow what a deal. As I stood in the checkout line some employees were struggling with a register cashing out 593 dollars in petty cash (The register said)... they seemed to be running into a snag... Checking out I was a bit angered that my 100 dollar REI sleeping bag had to be unpacked and a huge dongle cut off like these theives dont steal MONEY for cheap crap every day. Well not only was the total discount for labor day sale exactly ZERO I had my receipt in my front jacket pocket and it disappeared overnight. I had a feeling it had something to do with the term "Through Labor Day."

I went online to find a dealer for a BOB stroller. I was surprised to see that they were sold at REI. I thought that no staff in an outdoor store would know anything about a stroller. I went in and was greeted and helped within about 15 seconds of walking into the store. Robbie was the sales rep who helped me. He explained all of the features of the stroller and did a demo of the operation of it. He taught me how to collapse it, gave tips, etc. Surprisingly good experience...

I go in here all the time and every time I end up buying something. The staff are super helpful and I appreciate their expertise. its nice to get advice on backpacking from someone who did the PCT. Store is clean and they typically have stuff in stock that I need. I also appreciate their return policy. I have no problem paying retail prices knowing that after I give a product a thorough field testing, that I can return it if it fails. You cant do that online...

REI is a great argument for why we need to have "brick & mortar" stores. Half the time I dont realize what I need until I see the stuff they have grouped together. They di a great job, the store is a mecca for everything outdoors. There is no substitute for browsing thorugh and chatting with the freindly staff. They all seem to love their job, and you can always find someone who can give you justthe right advice on just the right topic. Kudos!

The location is great and makes for a fun day of shopping! The service here is spectacular. I was asked by numerous employees if I could be helped, and I appreciated that. I only needed one small item, but I took a look around. The prices are very high, but from what I hear, its because of the great quality of the products. I went ahead and bought membership because I think Ill be going again, and it seemed worth it.

A relatively small REI compared to other locations Ive been too, but you can still find anything you need that is camping or outdoor related. Word of advice, dont wait too close to a popular holiday (MDW, 4th of July, etc.) to find the gear you need because they can sell out since it is a smaller REI. I went 2-3 days before a backpacking trip to buy last minute supplies/gear and their inventory couldve used a restock

Good Products, Horrible service. Go into REI knowing what you want to buy because if you dont, youll have to wait about an hour to get assisted. There is about one man on the job and he truly seems like he doesnt want to be there and not someone you would want to talk to. I would recommend Big 5 or Dicks Sporting goods over REIs any day.

The Ritz-Carlton of outdoor gear outfitters. Matt made sure to remember my name when I came in and greeted me several times during my visit as I browsed the store. He also helped with good product advice which I could not find online. Checkout was quick and painless. will be back.

The amount of time the salespeople spent with us was remarkable. We were on the fence about some hiking boots, and ended up just buying socks. Rather than my normal MO of using brick and mortar as Amazons showroom, I would come back here when we are ready to buy.

I love all things outdoors, and rei is like a toy store for adults. I could spend hours in here. The only issue with this location is the parking. It would be great if it had its own structure, but youre stuck looking for street parking or surrounding garages.

Rei is definitely the best place to shop around for outdoor gear. The sales staff are helpful and knowledgeable. They have a huge selection of items. Just double check reviews and prices online as rei usually has "premium" pricing.

How do you not have spare tent poles for your own REI tents? Told it would take a few weeks minimum to repair tent poles and that theyve never had to do it before. Ridiculous and poor customer service - was hung up on.

I nearly always find what I am looking for in this store... If not, with the help I receive (from the knowledgeable staff) I manage to find something suitable. Not cheap but I would definitely recommend this store

I love going to this store. It is rare that I dont leave with some newfound knowledge. Love the gear selection and the folks working there (or are they really just playing and pretending to work?) :)

Big store with large selection. I am amending previous review as the customer service here is really very good now . Had a particularly good experience with Kelvin in the shoe department today.

Great store with a huge selection of gear. This store might just have the most helpful and friendly employees Ive ever dealt with. It keeps me coming back for all my outdoor adventuring needs.

Sadly a very racist store. The clerk refused me service and asked me to leave so I would not buck the "trend." I am very dissapointed that this type of stuff still occurs in Santa Monica.
