My car broke down while driving home from work and this was the closest repair shop but I now wish that I would have paid to have it toyed somewhere else. I originally asked for a diagnostic test but after not hearing from them for two days I called and got the feeling that they had just simply forgotten about my car. No big deal at first because I knew that it was a busy location. When they finally called me back they tell me that its one problem only to call back a day later to say that the issue wasnt resolved and that it was something else all together. They insisted that my spark plugs and wires needed to be replaced even though I had them replaced a month prior. I kept having to call them to check on the progress of my car and each time it was a new story, "oh, we had to order a part but they sent us the wrong one, etc." After having my car for almost a week, I finally just showed up to complain and thats when the part miraculously comes in and my car gets fixed that night. I get charged over $100 more than the price originally quoted and of course it cuts off before I can even make it out of the lot. Yet they argue that its fixed and the shaking is from my brakes and rotors which I had replaced two weeks prior. In all I paid out close to a grand and Im convinced that it was basically money down the drain and that they didnt actually perform any of the work I paid them for. My car is now exhibiting the exact same problems forcing me to call out of work for the first time ever to take it back into the shop. But this time Im taking it to a place that has more than two stars.

A recent drive I noticed I was getting some vibration at certain speeds, turning etc. and thought it was time to have my tires rebalanced. Boy was I right, not only that, but my tires were wearing unevenly in the front indicating that my alignment is off. I called to see if I could get my car in (today is Sunday) and have the tires balanced. They said it could be up to an hour wait, but they could definitely take me. Brought the car in, they asked if I was having any other issues, I brought up the alignment, they offered to fix it TODAY. Ok so I know thats not a big deal to some people, but I dont enjoy taking my car in. $70 and an hour of my time to have my tires balanced and my alignment done is a pretty good use of my time. They said it would be an hour to hour and a half, and it was right in the middle. Look, I dont need great customer service, as long as the guys behind the shop doors know what they are doing, and do it well, I dont give two sh%&s if the kid working the front counter is courteous. If you want customer service, go to the mall. This is a car service center, so forget the reviews below with the "Horrible customer service". Thats probably a review written by somebody who cant figure out how to put their Prius in neutral driving down the highway. Bottom line, took my car it, it was fixed (and fixed well I might add) in the time quoted. I paid reasonable prices, and all this took place on a Sunday. Ill definitely come back here if I need to.

I wish I was writing this because I had a good experience with Pep Boys, but unfortunately I am not. I brought my car into the Pep Boys shop this past Monday night (6/22/2009) with a request for a check on a noise my car was making. It was a slight squeaking noise that I figured was the wheel bearings. The mechanics checked my car out; test drove it, and did whatever else they needed to do to figure out the problem. They called me back and told me my wheel bearings were causing the problem and that they needed to replace the front wheel bearing and rear hub assembly. The total cost of this was $630+. In trusting that Pep Boys was an honest company, I agreed to the service. It took them two days to finish the service (I got my car back Wed 6/24/2009) and when I happily paid the cost. The assured me they test drove the car and the problem was fixed. Within 5 minutes of my drive, the noise was still there!!! I just paid $630.00 to get my car repaired and the reason I brought it in was not fixed! This is absurd. Now I need to bring it back into the shop and miss work and be without a car for 2 more days. I am very frustrated and hope that they will do something to fix this HUGE problem Pep Boys caused.

My friend recommended Pep Boys for oil change, since the dealership can be expensive. I had an appt at 9am which I was on time for. The man told me that it would be at least an hour. I thought that was a long time, but decided to be patient. I walked around the shopping center. 30 minutes later, my car was still in the parking lot. I informed the workers that I was not happy. They said they would bring my car around right now. Another 10 minutes passed before they brought my car in. So I waited 20-25 minutes while they changed my oil. I checked again. "It will be a few more minute maam". More waiting. Finally I told the guy that I was upset, that the wait was way too long for an oil change, my car wasnt even brought back until 40 minutes after my appt time. He apologized and said that they perform other large repairs and maintenance for vehicles. That was irrelevant to me, since all I needed was an oil change. I checked out and asked for my keys.....The guy said "it will be a few more minutes, they are pouring the oil." I was livid. 90 minutes total time for an oil change when I had an appt first thing in the morning.

Based on my Century Warranty contract, I was originally dispatched to the El Cajon St Pep Boys. Needless to say, they were quite incompetent. They had no idea how to properly read a code and translate it to a complete unit failure and not just a sensor. They actually sent me to Nissan! As it turns out, the original dealership has to "release" my vehicle to Nissan, so it was back to a "more knowledgable" Pep Boys on Genessee with two, yes TWO ASE certified master technicians. I could care less about how many of who you have working there. Jaime not included, their management crew is horrible! I spent a total of 7 1/2 hours over three days to wait for said Master Techs to verify the needed work when Nissan had it pegged to a "T"! Management is supposed to direct the flow of timely work, not make excuses for taking so long! Ultimately, I gave the dealership an ultimatum that I refused any further dealings with Pep Boys and was redirected to a 4.5 Yelp-rated business. There is a reason Pep Boys has a 2.2 average rating!
