Variety is the spice of life, and Petaluma is lucky to have such a nice little Mexican mercado in the neighborhood. Casa del Palmar on E. Washington is both a small grocery and a carniceria. It must be really valuable to Mexican natives to be able to come here and find the brands of canned and packaged goods they were used to back home. In addition to processed foods, the market has a section of baked goods and a small produce department. I was so thrilled when I went to this shop recently and found they had the wooden tortilla press I had been searching for. It works like a charm and the friendly woman behind the counter told me she uses this model herself. Seriously, if you have only ever eaten store brand tortillas, you just dont know what you are missing until you make them from scratch, yourself. I cant imagine shopping for food at his market, myself, as my family eats organics and those seem few and far between at Casa Del Palmar. That being said, I am very glad that this store offers many things to our rich and diverse local population and a trip to this store is the next best thing to shopping in Mexico. Youll feel like youve taken a mini-vacation just wandering the aisles and seeing all of the interesting merchandise. Very enjoyable. Buena suerte, Casa del Palmar!
