Thats too bad that the staff is not knowledgeable of their products and genuinely cant help the customer in any way. I do know that Bc I worked there a year ago for a few months. So many times A customer would come in ask for a product the worker would say no sorry, I would step in and say, "actually I think we do have that", then show customer to the product. No one had a genuine concern for the customers. Which I do not understand because thats what I miss most about working there and every day on the job was being able to help customer out and make their day by saving them thousands of dollars training them how to do an easy job that a contractor would have taxed them on badly. The customers in Orinda were awesome!!! Lastly, The new manager there really cares about customers tho and acts completely different than what I just described. His names Walter and he will go out of his way to make sure your experience was more than great and treat you like gold. If you want to return anything thats used or you broke or no receipt he will gladly do so Bc his customers all are very important to him and he will not loose one over a minor situation. He is very customer service oriented just like every manager or employee in retail should be. He turned around the store and it looks amazing all true value orinda needs is a solid consistent knowledgeable team that the manager can keep on payroll and satisfied.

Ive had to return to items here, and have had a problem each time. The first time I was specifically told that I could return a tool I was purchasing if I didnt use it. When I tried to return it the manager gave me a hard time but in the end gave me credit. This last time I was sold an item that was incompatible with my intended use, based on an employees recommendation. We had had the packaging apart and when I returned apparently a part was missing. Since I had not opened the packaging between leaving the store and returning to the store it had to have been missing from the start, or fallen out while I was in the store. This time the manager refused to issue a refund. I will never shop here again.

I like local hardware stores, and this is certainly one, so it gets good marks. That said, another reviewers criticism that the employees here tend to be high school or college-aged, and not be knowledgeable about what theyre selling, is on target. Id be sad if it closed, because going here has saved me a lot of longer, more frustrating rips to Home Depot - but this is absolutely NOT one of those old-timey hardware stores with a wise owner looking to dispense advise on tools.

Love the setting & vibe (great train set for the kids to play with), but at least on this one weekend visit it was just a bunch of nice high school kids working there who want to help but dont really know their stuff.
