This USED to be my one stop shop for everything I enjoy doing. Backpacking, cycling, climbing...they have a good selection of stuff and you can get good prices on things if you shop the sales or use the member coupons. I recently went in to exchange a bag that had faulty pockets (everything kept falling out of them). Somehow this one item did not make it onto my membership so I was hassled quite a bit about the exchange. First the person tried to accuse me of bringing in a fake bag to exchange and then tried to accuse me of buying the bag somewhere else and trying to exchange it at their store. When I grew tired of this I demanded to see a manager. I was told that she was with a customer and I waited another 10-15 minutes waiting for the manager. The manger was not on the floor at all ( I have been there enough to know she is a middle-aged, blonde female). The cashier was snippy and tried to make me feel bad for bringing back a faulty item. The manager was apathetic to the situation to the point where coming out of her office wasnt worth her time...that is some GREAT customer service. I have spent many THOUSANDS of dollars with REI over the years and mainly at this particular store and know most of the long time employees by name. I had spent nearly $1000 the week before at this very store so I am just blown away at how I was treated on my return visit.

I was a first time customer at REI in Huntington Beach yesterday. I had read through some reviews of this store on Google before going and they werent that good. I decided to go anyway and try my luck. I ended up having an extremely pleasant experience here. I was helped by more then one associate at first, but they were all very knowledgeable about products and very kind. I then ended up being helped by the Store Manager Adam. He was so kind, polite and patient. He took me step by step of what I needed for my trip and what I didnt. I told him my budget and he found me all that was necessary. Also Chris on the register was extremely patient and kind. Everyone I encountered in the store was very helpful. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for excellent service from people who genuinely care about your well being and safety. I will definitely be returning to this store. Have a fantastic day.

I have been a R.E.I. member since 1995, when the only R.E.I. store was in Santa Ana, Ca. Now in H.B. Im an experienced backpacker and adventurist. And Cruise Ship traveler, I TRUST R.E.I and the top gear they sale. What ever your low budget is to the most $$$ gear this is the place to go. In store brands from MSR, North Face, Mountain Hardware and GARMIN. The R.E.I team members are also knowledgeable and experienced in what they are going to sale to a REI member from just starting out to the advanced adventurist. R.E.I. will always be my go to outdoor gear store.

I am a little surprised by some of the negative reviews Ive seen on here. I have been shopping at this REI for 6 years and I have never had a bad experience at this store. I have alwasy experienced good customer service and excellent product quality. For the one reviewer who posted "looked for cheaper prices. Found easily"---REI is all about quality. Yes, Im sure its possible to find cheaper prices but I have been using the products Ive purchased at REI regularly (and using them hard) for years and never had a problem. You get what you pay for!

The bike repair guys here are afraid of technology and dont/wont/cant do an 800-mile tune-up on a radcity electric - seems that they dont want the liability of dealing with something that theyre not not properly trained to work on. They sell conventional cycles im the department that sell for 3-times and more than my radcity - pity as Ive been a REI member for 30 years - wont be shopping here anymore (I returned $300.00 worth of merchandise to the shelf before leaving) and my local bike shop, with a properly trained staff just got my business ...

I went to this store to get a roof box and it was a very good experience. The assistant was very knowledgeable, checking first what vehicle we had and that the one I had selected would be appropriate. After paying at that part of the store (not queuing at the front), I drove around to the back and the assistant helped me mount it to my vehicle, going through all the details of fitting and use. Add to that: REI was the same price as anywhere else, even amazon, but I got a 10% dividend as a member.

Really great employees! Very helpful. Fantastic knowledge of store merchandise and inventory. We were in a hurry yesterday to purchase a last minute pair of hiking pants. I wish knew the young womans name. She quickly helped us get what we needed and back on the road to the airport for a long distance trip to Antarctica. We were in and out of the store in less than 15 minutes ( including trying on a few things).

Staff is super friendly at this store. From the greeter/ security at the front door to the guy in the back to the cashier everyone was smiling and chatting with their customers. I came in for a water bottle but spent most of my time wandering around looking at other stuff. The store looked clean and tidy even though it was busy. Parking was easy too. No rock wall though...

I was in the area and wanted to browse. The REI staff greeted me and asked me if I needed any help finding any items or any questions with gear. I liked the cleaniness of the store and how easy it was to find items. Price wise a little too pricy for me but you get great customer service and they have a no fuss return policy for 1 yr.

Great customer service and expert advice! Hunter was very informative and helped me tremendously to find all the road cycling gear I needed, within my budget. REI definitely has high quality products, even on a budget. REI will be my primary store for all my sporting needs moving forward!

Great store with good customer service. Their great return policy and service make it worth paying the little extra. REI gear sales for members are a steal. Often virtually brand new gear for half off. I tell everyone interested in getting good gear for cheap to check them out.

Very knowledgeable hiking staff. Bike department can fix and install anything; they even service track bikes. This place needs an in-house coffee shop as everybody I know can spend hours in here, myself included, lol. Other than that, REI is tops for outdoors lifestyle gear.

They did not have the customer service I expected, and they had remarkably high prices for many of their products. Searched online for cheaper prices - found easily. Good place for last-minute items - but only if you have the money.
