I am a Plumbing Contractor with my own business and a Pastor involved in Missionary work in Baja Mexico. I am very sorry to say that these guys have very poor business ethics and customer service. I recently purchased a Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van for my Plumbing business and for my Missionary work from these guys. From the very beginning I had specifically stated to the Salesman, Drew Davis, that I wanted "factory stock" rear windows, just like the ones on the Ford Transit I had already test driven at Escondido Ford. The van that they had for sale did not have rear windows but Drew assured me that they would take care of that. What that meant is that I did not receive "factory stock" rear doors with windows, but instead, they sent my van out to a local business to have them "modify" and chop out the existing rear panels and install windows. When it got back to the lot, I saw that the rubber stripping around my new windows was bulging in some places and in other places it wasnt even glued in. They also painted over their scratches with a touch up paint. I never stated that that was what I wanted them to do. I also received a cheap after market rearview mirror that fell off when I tried to adjust it. And according to the owner of Encinitas Ford, Mark Wheeler and the Service Mgr, Jeff Gelt, it is now my responsibility to make the arrangements to have all the screw ups and flaws corrected. I tried to return the van but I was told by Jeff Gelt that I would not be able to do that. I then told Jeff that I did not OK my modified windows and that the only way to make me happy was to install "factory stock" rear doors and windows, like I had specified. He said, "Well then, I guess we are going to have an unhappy customer." These guys did a classic bait and switch job on me and I am now stuck with a $26,000 van with botched up windows that I never agreed to. My mistake was taking it off the lot in the first place. I wish I had never met these guys. I trusted these guys to take care of me and they ended up screwing me over. My best recommendation to anyone is that if you are interested in a Ford vehicle, DO NOT purchase it from these guys!

To be fair, the people at Encinitas Ford were very nice and professional in atmosphere, but the lack of honesty is what hurt them in my purchasing. They were wiling to work to get me what I wanted, which was not an easy thing. But they appeared to use that as leverage in negotiations. They found what I wanted and priced it out well above a similar vehicle from another dealer. They didnt seem like they wanted to disclose the price, acting as if they were doing me a favor, calling the other dealer a liar, and putting themselves up as an honest establishment. When i calculated up what the bottom price for the vehicle was, it came back to nearly $53000 out the door with an MSRP of $48200 roughly. They never would give me the price, but some basic math of the payments, interest rate, taxes, etc gave that number. I ended up buying an almost identical vehicle that was only a few hundred less on MSRP for under $43000 out the door. Roughly $10000 less and they, though not seeming too happy, didnt accuse anyone else of lying to me, act as if I was an idiot, and realized when it was my price or no sale, the holdback was enough for them. Thirty minutes of negotiating got me invoice price, then $3500 in rebates, and 2.9% financing. Walk into Encinitas Ford and offer them invoice price or close to it and see what they say. Theyll act in shock and tell you they have to make money. Then ask them about holdback. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. But if you do go there, do not fall for their tricks and do your research. The $10000 I saved going elsewhere was well worth it. Instead of payments over $600 a month, I went to about $450 on same terms, and a smaller down payment. I walked out of the other dealer in about 3hrs from walk in, new vehicle and all. I spent more at Encinitas to no avail. Ive only purchased 5 new vehicles in my life, but Encinitas was the worst dealer Ive dealt with.

Do not email them. Do not call them. Do not go here. Yes, I’ve got a challenging situation with some recent ugly credit dings from an even uglier divorce, a pretty weak income after monthly alimony and child support payments and I’m also self-employed – but none of that makes me stupid. It was imperative for me to stay within my particular budget. I did my research and I was very particular about what would fit all my criteria. Encinitas Ford had the used truck I was looking for so I called them to find out the price. This woman, Maryanne Thompson, ran me around fifty different ways of Sunday always avoiding telling me how much they were asking and promising they would do everything in the world to earn my business. How about you stop wasting my time with obvious scripted sales pitches from the 70’s and just tell me how much it is? She hounded me with calls/emails and against my better judgment, I caved and made an appointment to drive up to Encinitas. After all, the truck fit my criteria almost perfectly. When I get there not only do they not know of my appointment but it turns out Maryanne doesn’t even work on Mondays. What’s worse is that after I was pawned off on some poor sales guy who ran around looking for the truck for 30 minutes he comes back to tell me that it had been sold over a week ago but he could have his used car manager help me find exactly what I wanted. What a hoax and a complete waste of time. This place doesn’t respect people or their time by being honest. How they stay in business with shady practices is beyond me. My guess is they pray upon the uneducated car buyer and the desperate. They’re completely unorganized, unprofessional and clueless about what’s going within their own company. The owner should be embarrassed and ashamed. And what a dump. Do yourself a favor, don’t waste your time and stay away.

On my way home after buying it, the low oil pressure light came on and stayed continually on for over an hour. I had my other mechanic check it out and found out the headlight assembly was broken as well as other parts that they had told me they did a 150 check point inspection. I was thinking if they check their cars like this, I know I am not the only one who was sold a lemon. I bought it since I was leaving out of town the next weekend and I fought to get a rental from them but they put me in a 4 people car instead of a bigger car like a suv that I bought from them. They kept my car for days and still didnt fix the light. On my way home, the light came on again. They advised me to take it to another shop in san diego and they left my car smelling like cigarettes. I filled up my gas tank before I dropped it off and checked the milage right before I got off and I kept calling to check the status because this time the dealer wouldnt pay for a rental for me. they told me it should take 3-4 hours but they took all day. I called and was told the driver was drive testing it for another hour now and then I can pick it up. When I picked it up, my gas tank was low but the miles that were driven were only 22 miles from when I dropped it off. I know with that info, they stole my gas from my tank because 22 miles wouldnt have caused my gas to be too low as is was. Overall, dealing with the dealership finance rep, service manager and the san diego shop they referred me to, It was very stressful and wished I had never got my car from them. I would never recommend this dealer at all to anyone that I took off any license plates from my tahoe already to not advertise for them. I am embarrassed to have bought a car from a dealer that is not professional. Shame on me for not researching them before hand.
