A month or so ago, the nob to turn the air between defrost, your feet and to blow in your face stopped working and was stuck on defrost. So I did a little research and found out that one of the HVAC actuators on my 2011 Chevy Traverse went bad. There is a great YouTube video and other websites that gives directions how to fix the issue yourself on the web. I had to take the Traverse in to get some recall work done so I thought I would see how much it would cost to get the actuator fixed. The salesperson/service person was very nice, don’t get me wrong. He wasn’t really specific on how much it would cost to fix the actuator at first. He said, “there are a few behind the dash that could have gone bad but he’d have to run a diagnostics in order to know for sure which one it was”. He said, “the diagnostics was over a $100. I said, “holy crap, really”. He initially said the actuators run about $100 for some and over $200 for others. He said, “well, I’ll do the diagnostics for $59 and we’ll go from there” basically half price. I said, “well, I know which one it is because I did online research and they said it was the one right behind the glove box which is relatively easy to get to. He said, “well, if that one is bad, the actuator behind the glove box, I’ll give the diagnostics to you for free”. I said okay to the diagnostics but to call me to approve any work to be accomplished. I left the car there for them to work on. They called me a few hours later and told me indeed the actuator behind the glove box was broke along with another one. He quoted me $80 odd dollars each for the actuators and roughly $500+ total to fix them both. I told them not to fix any of the actuators, I’ll try to fix them myself because online they said only one needed to be replaced. To say the least, I don’t trust any mechanics. Thinking, I wonder if they just fed me a line of crap about the second actuator to get me to pay for the diagnostics because of the deal we had made earlier. They had the vehicle for quite some time that day so again, I thought, I wonder if they’re sabotaging my Traverse and making the “second actuator” bad on purpose or replacing it with an actual bad one. They finally called me hours later stating the car was complete. I went in and luckily they didn’t charge me for the diagnostics, I was going to be pissed if they did. I went home later that day, bought the one actuator via Amazon for $33, a fraction of the price the Chevy dealer would have charged me for it. I then installed it myself, knowing that if it didn’t fix it and indeed I needed to replace a second actuator I still would save a ton of money. The installation took about 30 minutes, to be conservative. I tested it out and it worked perfectly. So, was the supposed second actuator really bad like they stated? I find it hard to believe it was because it worked fine after I fixed the one behind the glove box. Now, I’m thinking that if I had gone with their recommendation they would have “replaced” the second actuator and charged me for it when it didn’t really need to be fixed, therefore, they would have made up for the money for not charging me for the diagnostics test. I am very leery of any mechanic or dealership service department. This just proves that they are shady. Be very cautious! Do your research before diving into any mechanic doing a diagnostic or fixing anything on your vehicle. If you can fix it yourself, DO IT! You’ll save yourself a ton of money.

My car search began on December 13th went I was in an accident on 95 South on my way to work (total loss). I found Pohanka thru the PenFed Car Buying service and off all 23 dealerships that the services forwarder my request to, Pohanka Chevrolet was the first dealership to take the time and actually type out a response that was in response to my specific request (Advantage #1) while the other dealerships simply sent me an automated response that they probably send out to the hundreds of other people that might be looking into purchasing a vehicle. My consultant, Ira Hewlett, Jr., was extremely personable, could sense my frustration, sincerely dedicated to finding me what I needed for a price within my budget and promised me that he would not put me in a vehicle that he wouldnt be proud to have his sister drive. He payed particular detail to the features that I was looking for (great gas mileage, cruise control, key-less entry, Bluetooth wireless technology, etc.) and only showed me options that met or exceeded that criteria. (Advantage #2). Given my budget and no down payment, I had already made up my mind that I would only be able to afford a used car, which I would have been satisfied with as long as it could safely make the commute from Baltimore to DC everyday. However, by the time Ira was done with me, I was driving off the lot on December 19th in a brand new 2013 Chevrolet Sonic with only 13 miles on it( 6 of which I added during the test drive) and all of the features I wanted for less than what I had been approved for by the Credit Union for a used car. (Advantage # 3) This is the fourth vehicle that I have owned in my history of driving and my first brand new car. I visited 3 other Chevrolet dealerships during my search but I have to say, my experience at Pohanka Chevrolet was the most pleasant, convenient and rewarding(Advantage #4). Most of all, my sales consultant, Ira, was "The Best", making the car buying process a walk in the park. Thanks you so much Ira!!!! Overall, I am glad that I made the decision to visit Pohanka Chevrolet in Chantilly, VA and I wont hesitate to return in the future whenever I decide that I want to buy another vehicle.

After roughly 15 years of buying many vehicles from both individuals, dealerships, even over the phone from other states, I have officially had the absolute worst car buying process of my life. I have been lied to, ignored, blown off, and treated like I have never been treated as a paying customer before. I purchased my a used commuter car from this dealership January 11th. Paid in full, in cash, immediately. I picked up the car the next day after waiting more than half the day for them to get it through detail. It seemed after they had my money it got forgotten about. No big deal, it happens. When I was in the process of buying, I was told the title was locked up in the back, and it would take roughly 5-10 business days for me to receive it in my name. I wait roughly 3 weeks before contacting my salesman Anug inquiring about it. He acted shocked that I had not gotten it and promised to get back to me. Days go by, I contact again. No reply. I finally find him face to face in my place of business to be told he has no answer. It is now over two months of still not receiving my title for the vehicle. I’ve heard stories from them that they never had a title, stories of two titles from different states, stories of liens on both titles. At one point after going around to different managers the General store manager finally contacted me and still had no answers. I cannot urge anyone enough to steer clear of this dealership. They have gone through at least 3 general managers in a very short time, all sales staff has been rotated through. There is nobody there that will give you a solid answer or tell you the truth. I have started the process of going through the DMV legal services to take action in getting this resolved. You’ve been warned, buy at your own risk from this very shady underhanded dealership.
