The fishing department has gone south in last few years. Some walmarts have a better selection. They have obviously changed their target customer from the avid fishermen to the beginner weekend warrior discount fisherman. I asked an employee why did yall get rid of all the saltwater gear....his response was "we are 130 miles from the coast" My response was " we are 1000 miles from a ski resort but yall sell ski pants, ski jackets, snow boots and ski goggles". Now I literally drive past 3 Academys to get to basspro even though their prices are high. They at least have what us real fishermen need. And they are alot further from saltwater So if you are looking for leader material, crimps, crimpers, swivels, leader line, piano wire, trolling lures, Bucktails, butterfly jigs, bottom weights, sabiki rigs ect...... Dont go here... I still go to Academy for fishing clothes, camping gear and shoes. But drive right past it when looking for tackle. Academy is loosing thousands of dollars. I personally know alot of serious fishermen who have stopped shopping here because of the poor selection. All it would take is one single aisle to stock good saltwater tackle. Until Academy improves their selection, Im a basspro customer.

I miss Oshmans; there, I feel better now. Academy does an amazing job though, I just miss having even better bikes, tennis equipment, ping pong accessories, etc. Still the best place for camping and hunting. Golf selection is good but premium sets need more choices. They do a great job in shoes generally but again, premium items can be hard to find. Sports Authority thought buying Oshmans would solve their Texas dilemma but Academy still does most things a bit better. But again, Oshmans was the better choice over Sports Authority. Dicks is close to the old Oshmans experience but have bowed to liberal crowd in the guns section (hint, more than one perp requires more than 6 bullets unless you are a SEAL) Academy understands their market butagain, more upscale choices such as golf and bbq pits are warranted in certain demographic areas.

If I could give this store a rating of 0 I would. This store isnt capable of keeping any employees and it shows throughout the store when they are most needed. So many items arent tagged or always out of place. The work ethic of the employees isnt up to par and the professionalism of the management and seniors is a joke. They ask for things out of the employees that they arent even capable of doing and this company lacks total stucture and organization. There is improper communication amongst management and the store director is the biggest joke I have ever experienced throughout my career.

Three days ago I went to this location to get something for son and found some cute shoes. When they didnt have my size on the shelf I asked an employee to check the inventory for a 10 1/2. He scanned the box and said they didnt have any. Then instead of offering to order them he said "maybe you should start looking in the mens since youre a larger size" and then walked off. I ended up leaving, looking on amazon for them in my size and had them delivered this morning. Employees at many locations are so rude. Do your job, help customers and keep opinions to yourself.

My son got sick while we were in the store. I asked two of the associates behind the gun counter if I could please have some paper towels to clean up the mess and my son. They both told me no, the one guy looked back at the paper towels on the counter and then turned to tell me they didnt have any. I could physically see them on the counter. Wont be back! I did let the lady at the front door know what happened, mainly bc I did not want someone to slip in vomit..... very poor customer service!!!!!

Its got Super Customers service. Bought a SW gun . Its broke the first time at the range. Talk the the Manager . They did everything to let me exchange for different gun . Understand its a no exchange policy. They know its a defect gun. I told them I lost confidence in Smith and Wesson . Cause gun is not a toys. Its got to be 100 percent reliable. Cause someone could get hurt or kill. Thank You Academy.

Ive been to several of these stores and the gun counter people are consistently these big macho man types of guys that just intimidate you and dont really care. Not at this location. The guys were so helpful! They were actually willing to hold a particular rifle for me. I drove all the way from Austin and when I arrived the box was waiting for me. I wish more Academy stores would learn from their example.

Brandon helped us and was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional, we found that a lot in the store and even made a 2nd trip back today where Brandon greeted us again. We will be returning on a regular basis. This has always been our experience with this store. Folks that go out their way to give great customer service! 5 stars all the way.

Perhaps because they have a slightly upscale location they run out of featured items sooner than some of the other stores, but when time after time you find yourself in a group all being turned away because they sold out, you begin to wonder. Staff was helpful in locating what I was looking for at another store after waiting my turn for 30 minutes

I was pleasantly surprised by the quantity of sporting goods they had available for sale here. Sadly, they do not carry the brand of running shoes I require to walk and run properly, nor do they carry the toe-separating socks that are required with these shoes. Only thing I wasnt happy about.

Walked around looking for stuff for 30 minutes. Employees saw me look at them and turned the other way or just kept talking too other employees. Must have been too early for them too do their jobs. Barley got a welcome on the way in and thats only because I said hello first.

Associates at the gun bar were quite helpful with answering all of my questions. Helped explain the functions of the firearm I ended up purchasing, and recommended several types of ammo too. The process did take some time, however they were busy so that was to be expected.

The workers are horrible. They dont greet you when you enter, they ignore you when you need help or they say they are busy doing something else. 4 girls were folding t-shirts in the mens section . Does it really take 4 people to fold one second of Nike shirts?

Love Academy and the people here are great but this store has a hard time keeping there shells stocked up. I go here all the time and went yesterday for a multitool and they literally only had about 5 on the shelf so I ended up having to go look somewhere else

Academy used to be the place to visit for affordable outdoors clothing & hunting gear. Seems even their house brand items have increased way above its quality level. I stopped visiting & purchasing all-together when they hid their black rifles in the back.

For camping and Sporting Goods this place is fantastic. Their sales are not that great and their clothing line can be costly but I can always find what I need. The staff can be hard to find but when you find them theyre pretty helpful.

User to like academy, seems they never have anything in stock anymore. How you suppose to sell stuff when you dont keep your shelves full. Always tell me I can order online. If thats the solution why dont you just close your doors.
