Well, here I am reviewing a beer and wine shop.. weve hit that point. But you know what, thats okay. Lets just say Im at this place far too often (not often enough?). My main reason for choosing this store is a lazy one: convenience. Its within a half mile of my house. There are definitely major pros and a couple minor cons to this particular beer and wine shop: Pros: 1) The selection! I mean, if you want to try a new beer that youve never had and youre in the Bethesda/Rockville area, this is your place. The owner seems to have an interest in keeping oddities on the shelf, which makes me a big fan. 2) Location - this may be a perk thats particular to a smaller number of people that live close, but for the others, it is still valuable. This shop is right next to Giant. Grabbing groceries? Stop in and pick up a bottle (box) of wine. Working out at WSC next door? Great job burning all those calories! Now go replace them with a nice cold brew. Buying a new iPhone at the Verizon next door? Celebrate with some bubbly. 3) The staff is probably my favorite B&W staff around. Very knowledgeable and actually seem like theyre happy to talk to you about different types of beer (Ive never really talked wine with them). Im always happy to talk to these guys. Cons: 1) The prices are slightly high, even relative to other nearby places. No, theyre not as high as wine prices at Balduccis accross the street, but if you have the time to drive 3 miles to the alcohol shop in Cabin John, youll save yourself some $$. Example: the wine I like getting is regular priced at $24 at Georgetown Square vs $19 at Cabin John. Thats nearly 20% less. Cabin John severely lacks in beer options and does have the perk of liquor, plus better wine prices, but since Im more of a beer guy, I go to Georgetown Square for the options and buy my wine there as well out of convenience. 2) Rotates almost too quickly. Sometimes I fall in love with some beer thats was a small new oddity, then I can never get it again. Its like they get you hooked, then take it away. I know this is a weak con, but doesnt make it less true (in my case, anyway). Overall: Love this place. Great selection (both beer and wine), great staff, so-so prices, good location, and open fairly late. I considered giving 4 stars rather than 5 due to the higher prices, but when they experiment with so many different beers and have a storefront on Old Georgetown, I suppose they need to fund those costs somehow. 5 stars!

The store is now being renovated now, so hopefully it will be even better. But its been my "go to" place for great wines and beers since 2000. The owners are characters but with great heart. The sales guys are terrific. Funny/diverse/smart ! Prices are high - Hey Now. Its Bethesda - but its close to my house and they have parking in front of the store.

Came here to grab a few beers before Thanksgiving. I was pleasantly surprised by their selection of craft, seasonal and specialty brews. They even had a handful of great sours. Good prices for the small brews as well. Sours and seasonal were a bit pricey but thats to be expected. Cant comment in the wine but its most of the store!

This store will not stand by its product. I tried to return a bottle of overheated red wine (popped when opened, vinegar aftertaste) and despite seeing the full bottle w/ cork & the price tag on it the manager would not offer an exchange. Unacceptable.
