You might think to yourself… A grocery store? For my big beautiful wedding?!? No way… But you would be wrong. We used Hy-Vee for our catering, bakery and floral and don’t have any complaints. Catering- Oven Roasted Chicken, Sliced Beef Au Jus Jeff and Jen were the 2 people we dealt with and they were both great. Very friendly, professional and courteous. -Food was delicious and served at the right temperature. -They were punctual and made a minimal imprint (no giant truck coming in as a disruption) -Were helpful and understanding with some last minute changes -Service crew was great- They served my wife and I and had the buffet service without flaw. Great job cleaning up . Dirty dishes did not sit around long. -We opted to have them save and chill the leftovers which has been great reheated Bakery- Gourmet cupcakes and small 2 tier cake I forget the names of who we worked with, there were a few. They were all very helpful and accommodating -Everything was delivered and staged beautifully - Cupcakes and cake were both perfect. Moist inside, but not underdone. Frosting was delicious and sweet. -Cake decoration was exactly as requested. They added the flowers and cake toppers beautifully as requested. Floral Bouquets, corsages, and a few arrangements for the ceremony. Floral manager helped us (I forget her name) -Met in person to discuss vision, colors and flower types -Everything came out beautiful as requested -We did not get them delivered- In hindsight, I wish we had. Hy-Vee was great for everything in our wedding. Plus, if you use all 3 departments, you get a discount! After using them for our beautiful wedding, they are clearly more than “just a grocery store”. Thanks for everything!

A week and a half before my wedding I ordered 9 1/2 dozen cupcakes. I was worried about making sure the order was correct so I called back the day before and confirmed the entire order. The morning of my wedding I went to the bakery to pick up the cupcakes. I was told that they didnt understand my order and just decided not to make my cupcakes. The only thing they didnt understand was the spray color I wanted on the frosting. So instead of making the cupcakes and just asking me when I came to pick them up, they just chose not to make anything at all. When I told her that I had called the day before to confirm my order, she had me pull out my phone and show her proof that I had in fact called the day before. After about 10 minutes, she finally offered to let me talk to a manager. The manager didnt come out, but the baker did and said they could make the cupcakes and if I came back to pick them up they would be free, but if I wanted them delivered to my venue theyd have to charge me. I agreed to come back and pick them up. Here is what upsets me: a) why wasnt the offer to make the cupcakes right away the first thing that came out of her mouth? Why did I have to prove to her that I called the day before? Why did she have to go ask her manager before offering to make the cupcakes?; b) they screwed up and should not have wanted to inconvenience me. They should have offered to deliver the cupcakes to my venue, free of charge with a huge apology.; and c) at no point did they apologize. Luckily we were able to fit it in to our schedule, which was extremely busy. At the very least, an apology was necessary. To provide good customer service, they should have made sure I wasnt inconvenienced any more.

I get the feeling that some of the reviewers of this store, especially those who cannot spell (isle instead of aisle, for instance), are thinking of the nearby Aldi store. My partner has been complaining for months about the stores wed been shopping at - Pierces at Northport and Sherman, and Copps on Shopko Drive. Coming from Texas, he really liked a chain there called "HEB." I find the Hy-Vee open, with a great selection. We especially like the cheeses and produce, but my partner also makes a visit to the seafood counter each visit, where hes enjoyed mussels, oysters, and salmon so far. Im disappointed that they dont carry my brand of yogurt, but gee, thats kind of a teeny complaint. We also found the liquor selection impressive in a grocery store, plus the fact that they accept credit cards - which Woodmans DOES NOT accept. Found a sparkling rosé wine from the south of France which my partner likes better than a bottle of Veuve Cliquot which cost more than triple the price. I have consistently been impressed by the employees, who show that they are genuinely invested in the store, and want to be helpful to customers. I just find myself wondering if all of the young employees are making a decent wage, but havent built up the gumption to ask one what the starting hourly wage is. Ive also noticed complaints about parking and not enough cashier lines open. My experience has ONLY been positive on this. NEVER had any problem parking, and have been impressed at how short the waiting time is to load groceries up and check out. We use the pharmacy at our doctors office, but it is nice to see a good selection in that department of the story, too.

Went to the Hy Vee this afternoon spent 1/2 hour filling my shopping cart and then went to the check out. Only 2 cashiers, and the Express cashier open stood in line with about 4-5 customers ahead of me while the cashier had a very casual conversation with a customer.....who was a friend....for about 5 minutes. Moved over to the Express cashier, who had a hand calculator or a mobile phone and had 2 customers ahead of me. Waited 5 minutes while he played and checked out a customer and finally gave up! Told the person behind the customer service counter that they might want to put the merchandise back, since I couldnt wait any longer. He just shrugged and had a blank look! DUH. Called the manager Rob reported the incident to him and he said he now had 6 cashiers and couldnt understand.....DUH....I told him that there were only 2 cashiers at 2:30 and he apologized. He did nothing to comfort me even after I told him I would no longer shop at Hy Vee. This may be an employee owned store but they forgot how to spell CUSTOMER SERVICE. Their are to many good stores in Madison to accept this kind of poor service!

Ive been shopping Woodmans for so long that walking into Hyvee today felt like I had wandered into some sort of produce heaven where displays are actually well maintained with fresh food and workers are everywhere to help you with questions and actually appear to like their jobs. I am super impressed with Hyvees diverse selection of health foods (paleo, gluten free), organic produce, ready to go meals and fresh cut-up vegetables for dinner options. I love the creativity they put in their unique displays and cross merchandising wine with basically everything in the bakery and deli areas. Its like they walked into my hungry genie brain and answered its wishes. Im not quite sure why Ive been going to the stinky guys for so long when the clear better guy is just 10 minutes down the street AND they serve coffee there. Thank you for making grocery shopping fun again. I will never stray to the stinky guys again.

Theres always a wait to check out. They never staff enough cashiers. The shelves are often poorly stocked. The beef is ok. Good place to buy cheap steaks I guess. Product selection is pretty standard. Its one of those places that quarantines all the organic stuff to one section which I find really annoying. Why cant all the yogurt just hang out together? The Chinese food in the hot bar is mediocre at best. They have recently expanded their ethnic foods section which is a bonus (hardly Woodmans though). The liquor store is very good. You probably wont find any really special craft beers here, but they have one of the larger beer selections in town. They have a lot of wine. I dont know if its any good or not. I go here for convenience. I am annoyed with the place on probably 80% of my visits. I prefer Woodmans or Metcalfs, and Festival has the superior meat counter in town now.
